With 3 weeks to go, I don't think the Eagles are in bad shape. A few may be missing for Round 1 probably, but there is a bit of depth now that we didn't have a couple of seasons back. Most players have had a decent hit out and most look pretty sharp. It is far better to be patient with...
Mmm . . I'm with Suma_Magic on this one. We should simply stick with getting just the right amount of work into each of our guys; the outcome of this match is secondary - TV issues included. Not feeling obliged to name our near best line-up the following week would also be a blessing if we...
Mmmm . . I actually see nothing wrong in evaluating the list pre-season. Even for those who may be "under the pump", they at least get to see what the future may hold - and be able to react in time to save their careers. The following is an extract from a private email (mine) back in...
Re: Delistings
We got mugged with Ebert going for (less than) Pick 28. He will very likely play 200+ games and he will be a solid player, no star. His skills will improve modestly year-on-year for the next few years as they have done here. Sadly, we were never going to get a reasonable deal -...
Who are the 2 players we have "effectively de-listed"? BJ is de-listed (retirement). Ebert is traded, but replaced by Hill - Ebert does not count as a "de-list" as his senior list slot is taken up by Hill. It is my understanding that we are required to have 3 senior list slots available in order...
Re: brad ebert quits west coast
I will stand to be corrected (again), but here goes: What I said was
"I think we are required to de-list 3 from the senior list and either recruit from the draft, or upgrade from rookies to replace them. If Ebert gets replaced on the main list by Hill, we will...
Re: brad ebert quits west coast
I think we are required to de-list 3 from the senior list and either recruit from the draft, or upgrade from rookies to replace them. If Ebert gets replaced on the main list by Hill, we will still need to de-list 2 more players. I'd expect 2 of Dalziel, Wilson...
Re: brad ebert quits west coast
I wouldn't get too hung up specifically chasing a future KPD. While some kids come with clearly KPD as their go, many good young KPF's I've seen can and have become great KPD's with a little bit of schooling. That is, I'd also look closely at any KPF's who have...
Gee you are so perceptive. It is true that nobody else made that up for me, nor is it a fact. So yes, you are totally correct, it really is my opinion - congratulations ! And I will happily stand by it.
Of course there are heaps of Eagles supporters only too happy to see Ebert go, just as...

In this draft, where Pick 28 equates with about Pick 40+ in most drafts, this is indeed a very very crappy deal. Ebert shafted us big time, and I do hope karma rewards him accordingly. I agree that there was no great alternative available to get a better pick.
As for Hill (if he comes our way)...
If Pick 28 was all that Port offered, I'd then offer him to any club for the best pick(s) offered. Whilst Ebert can state his club preference, he can still be traded to any other club. There have been players who have been traded completely without their knowledge - whilst they were overseas...
Re: brad ebert rejects geelong
I think that might say more about Neil Balme, than it does about Ebert ?
Let's face it, is it a good idea to go around shouting about the player(s) you might be after ?
My trade prediction is Ebert + Pick 45 for Pick 28 + Pick 33 - just for the record.:)
I'd prefer that we offer him to GWS for their pick 85. GWS have about a dozen extra players allowed on their main list (52 on main list ?), so taking Ebert would be a low risk option for them to take on. If he kicked up a stink and refused to play it would be no big loss to them would it ? If...
Traditionally the Eagles try to pick up at least 3 new picks under pick 45 in the primary draft. That probably won't change much as we have a Pick 45 carry over from last year. You could expect that they will turn over at least four players, possibly five this year.
Players looking down the...
I know that it is very sad, but let's face it, half of the Port supporters have already walked away - they don't want to support an under-supported and under-resourced team that keeps on being smashed. And nothing is about to change. Even when they were at their playing best, Port struggled to...
Re: ort to Make Massive Offer for Ebert / Phil Walsh
As some of you would know, I have always had a high regard for Ebert. He will still be only 21 at the start of next season and will continue to improve over the next 3 - 4 seasons. Ebert's flexibility will prove very valuable over the...
I don't think anyone can truly rate Laidley based on his Port time - a fly-in-fly-out arrangement can hardly be effective. Also, that club has had bigger distracting issues going on. A better measure of Dean was his time at North guiding a broke and under-supported team.
However, Laidley puts...
Port's problems started at birth. How the AFL allowed the club to get a licence astounds me. Anyone who understands marketing would have known Port would never survive. This club is hated with a passion by about 80% of the SA football community. Trying to build a support base from within...
I am very late on joining this queue - but recent experience of him and Walls on ONE got me going. Quarters is a total Tosser with a poor feel for the game. Walls is an Arrogant pig of a man and adds absolutely no value to the sport. The loss of TEN as a footy broadcaster can only improve the...
Brown out, for one of Stevenson, Smith or Swift. Dalziel either has to replace Gaff in the 21 or be dumped - he is not a good fit as a sub. Melbourne is probably a good opportunity to give Gaff another full game - but I'd only use him as a sub against Essendon.
Gee this stuff is a laugh ! I'd say "lighten up a little fella's". :) There are 22 rounds to go. It should be an interesting season. :D
The side named was entirely predictable, perhaps with the exception of McGinnity - who obviously nudged himself ahead of a couple of others with a strong...
Sorry to spoil the party, but this doesn't make you Nostradamus. You can actually say that about every single player and coach on our list ! ;) I should add that I suspect that all of those named will still be around next year. :thumbsu:[/
I watched the Carlton v Richmond game live on Satelite (4:30 - 7:30 WST), then was amused to see that ONE HD was pumping its "Before the game" show due to start at 8:00pm. "WOW -Before what game ?" I ask. Ph...st !

I backed the Pies pre-season last year at $12 for the Premiership. Their 2010 list was a fair bit deeper than their current 2011 list, and yet they are quoted at $3 this year - go figure ! I think they will probably finish top 4, but won't get the money this year. At this time last year everyone...
I reckon one of the final instructions he would have got before that NAB game would have been along the lines "Just go out there and try and pick up the pace of the game, don't try anything heroic and don't take (physical) risks - you need to get the feel of the game at this level first, and...
I've seen that one floating around too. As rumours go, it has a better probability about it happening than most. Buckley is guaranteed the Pies Job in 2012, Mick couldn't be happy not coaching, and he says he won't coach outside Melbourne. Melbourne and Carlton will come strongly into play as...
