Analysis [Poll] 2025 Captain + Leadership Group

Surely Jy keeps it for at least another year. Surprised that so many want Parker as captain. He has never played a game for the club and last year had a falling out with his coach and copped a five-week suspension for whacking a kid in the twos.

Crossley would be useful as cover for X and to give him someone to beat up at training, but we could just wait until the MSD.

Player Watch #32: Toby Pink - has been selected with #1 in the RD - Welcome Back, Pinky

He'll play more than you expect. We will be playing Xerri + either 5 or 6 other talls and we only have 5 at AFL standard - Corr, Larkey, Darling, Chom and Logue. After that Will Dawson will likely play if fit, but if we have any injuries it's really only Pink and Kal Dawson before we step...

Player Watch #7: Zane Duursma - out for 2024, undergoing shoulder surgery

He looked rushed early on, but settled down as the season went on. He'll be fine. 5 goals 18 from his first 9 games. 20 goals 9 from the last 9.

Player Watch #7: Zane Duursma - out for 2024, undergoing shoulder surgery

It was never a matter of taking Watson or Curtin with the Duursma pick, if we weren't taking Zane we would have traded down. Hawthorn and Melbourne made offers that would have got us either Watson and Morris, or Curtin and Tauru (Melbourne's F1) for that pick. Whilst Duursma looks the most...

List Mgmt. 2025 Trade & List Management Thread

It is more an issue for the soft cap and spreading our development coaches too thin. Cat B players will need more time invested into them and have a lower chance of success. There will be exceptions, but generally speaking, they aren't a very good investment.

Training 2025 Pre-Season - Standards are currently being driven

We didn't need to move up that badly, we were taking Dawson anyway. If we couldn't do the trade without Fisher we would have likely missed Hardeman or Goad and taken Morris or Mitchell instead. Plus had another pick in the thirties to use or possibly trade for an F2.

Training 2025 Pre-Season - Standards are currently being driven

The trade was fine, the choice of Fisher and the length of his contract wasn't though. In a year we'd gone from Clarko talking about looking for players to play in our next premiership to signing Fisher and Stevens on four-year deals.

The trade was fine. The choice of player and contract length was the issue for me.

We didn't have to use those picks on established players. And the trade didn't use one either, it was 17 + Fisher for 21 + 25.

Pretty much. He doesn't use the time he has and regularly kicks it over the leading forward's head. Just needs to take a step to balance and take the easy option.

Yes, it's about Luke. And you needn't be concerned for us, Luke isn't leaving. You seem to think he is part of some great player exodus that hasn't actually happened. Contrary to your thoughts, North have had no problems with player retention. I think you are projecting your anxieties about...

North have had one player we wanted to keep leave in the last ten years. Richmond just had half its best players desert it. Luke is going nowhere; his management are just trying to push up his price. The irony of your post on the day that two of Richmond's best women players walked out on the...

Player Watch #9: Luke Davies-Uniacke [Part II] - '24 SBM - [Ch9] LDU's camp 'working hard to get a deal done'

I suspect his manager was pissed at Luke when he came out and said he was staying - it could have cost them a new car. Now they are trying to get some leverage back with the Zurhaar yarn about needing to see improvement. Maybe it is slightly more convincing with Luke, at least he hasn't had his...

Yeah. His manager said it a few weeks ago. Larkey even repeated it in his interview yesterday. It's clearly the story his management are putting out. But I don't think he is any chance of leaving, they are just trying to push up the price.

I would have thought that after the Syd his price would be close to its max at the moment. Delaying contract talks doesn't always push up the price - see Ben Brown.

Makes sense. Similar to Rhyan Mansell. We could have listed him as Cat B rookie but Richmond took him as Cat A in the SSP a couple of years later.

Player Watch #40: Eddie Ford - re-signed until end of 2025

We've kept way worse footballers than Eddie on our list for years. The problem for him is you don't really need mid-sized forwards anymore and we have Zurhaar, Curtis, and soon Duursma, in front of him. Could he bulk up and play as a short key forward like Jack Darling? If not, he needs to...

If you count Toby as one, GWS now have 7 small forwards. Greene, Daniels, Bedford, Thomas, Jones, plus Gotthard and Hannaford from the first round of the last two drafts. A couple will play on the ball or wing, but they are going to be a nightmare to match up against.

    Player Watch #12: Jy Simpkin - 21/22 SBM - 23/24 CoCapt

He was. But we are going to have a logjam in the middle, a couple will need other roles. Jy, seems like one who could play more outside, and I think it would help his captaincy.
