Sorry BigE wasn't a specific dig at Aspley just an example to shoot down this logic that Thunder have an entire state to pick from, just uses them an example of population base.
I surprised that everyone is focussed on Thunder's apparent advantage with extra NT home games. The more people...
Good point
The catchment area is not a huge population.
What about Aspley - they have the only QAFL licence north of the Brisbane River !!!! You are looking at 10 times that population.
They joined the competition at the same time as Thunder and had a team ready made 1km away to take over ...
Facilities great !!
Rooms tiny for Grand Final (players deserve better) and I heard a rumour that the dedicated Medical room was used by the Umpires. I even heard that one of the benches was taken up by a goal umpire getting a rub before the game !!
Spare me !!!!
Just confused about criteria for club of year :
I would have thought that NT thunder with the minor premiership (2 and half wins clear of all teams), one goal away from Foxtel Cup semis and only 3rd year in comp would have seen them awarded trophy.
What about O'Callaghan Park at Zillmere.
Didn't QAFL take over the lease after stripping Zillmere of their State League Licence and giving it to "Club of the Year" Aspley in 2008 !
Rooms far more expansive than any State League club
The charge against Hunt was withdrawn, making him free to play for the Suns against Hawthorn in Tasmania this weekend if the selectors want to recall him.
Who withdrew the charge!!! Doesn't sound right to me, do we ignore the fact that Logan Bower has a sore jaw from the contact !
Chikka
Any truth in the rumour that Goughy wants to move his Corporate Hospitality area at Esplen Oval to the interchange bench for home games
People are kidding themselves if they think Thunder will go undefeated, what hope of a win at Blacktown, also wins at Cairns and Morningside highly...
What is the issue with the coaching - Jason Cotter has a greaty footy brain and is involved full-time in AFL, and of the so-called other "Southport" coaches - one lives on the Sunshine coast, one is an Assistant at the Lions and the other has no involvement with coaching at senior level. The...
I couldn't agree more, actually thought I was on the wrong channel !
Also can you tell me why the match of the round was not the unbeaten competition leaders playing the defending premiers (Thunder v Morningside), instead we watched a game in the mud that was not a good advertisement for the...
I would be surprised if Tapp is getting more money from Thunder than Aspley would pay him. Argus and Tapp doing completelly different jobs to their trades in Brisbane and enjoy lifestyle change and very professional football club atmosphere. Didn't move to Darwin for the money !
Maybe they saw...
If every team believes they can play finals, which five teams will finish below Aspley this year !!. The Suns will only get better with each game and would have beaten NT in Darwin if it wasn't for the monsoonal rains. If Aspley lose this weekend they will be 0/3 you would have to be an...
Also noted, don't be too hard on the young man he is barely out of school and only been in Qld for 15 months - the blame lies with his club officials who should have gone out of their way to give him clear instructions. One would have to reflect on the club's level of professionalism if this...
Aspley were awful. I believe standard of State League reserves has dropped away significantly in past few seasons and standard of Pineapple cup has improved.
What is worse that some of the Aspley team would be in line to play 1s - Nelis, Colch, Hutchison
No Forbes, Walker or Fabian for...
If its Birdbet, I think he had Lions as favourites last year, so I wouldn't read too much into that. Unpredictable with the Suns and what their endeavour will be in this comp, will it be the same as the Lions or completely different. Time will tell
Interesting that he has Hornets favourite...
What about the Sharks and Morningside - consistently the two best sides year in and year out. Sharks won 9 on trot until trip to Darwin and I predict Norm Dare will lift them.
Siders winners of the last 2 premierships.
The 3 sides you mentioned Chikka still have a lot of catching up to do ...
I think you are underestimating the quality of Aiden Pratt, very solid contributor without the flair of some higher profile players. Excellent club man. Most QAFL coaches would jump at the chance to have him on their list
My tips
1. Sandgate
2. PBC (is Zeidler still going to live in the goal square !)
3. Noosa
4. Maroochydore (I wouldn't be writing them off)
5. Magpies (feeding the Lions reserves all year)
6. Burleigh
7. Surfers
8. Grange
9. Springwood
10. Coolangatta
11. Mayne (should have been...
So the Pineapple cup has 11 teams and therefore won't be an 18 round home and away system. The finals will be decided by who plays Mayne twice and boosts their percentage.
How does Mayne expect to improve, who is going to bolster their playing stocks!
Looking at their "home ground" I can't...
Chikka I think you are being extremely optimistic if you believe Morningside can possibly finish first and for that you should be praised.
I reckon the Hornets are a show to beat the Sharks (given the Sharks recent wobbles) and you should beat Redlands but I can't see the Lions beating Labrador...
Next year will be no different for the Gold Coast clubs in QAFL. Where do you think the leftovers from the Suns are going to play. Surely they will cap the number of "listed" players that can play in their reserves as they do with the Lions and that will lead a nice group of players that need...
Syd Guilford - Wise
Grogan - Wise
Premiership - Southport
Runners up - Morningside
Joe Grant - Matthew Payne
Mt Gravatt player to be suspended - Cleary (Morrison does show a little more restraint these days), the Vultures may have a prompt exit from the finals !!
They won't this year either. Cameron Illett won't poll well with the umpires as he hardly ever gets a free kick. He goes hard at the ball and repeatedly has high contact made on him and rarely gets rewarded.
Umpires don't rate him but the rest of the comp do.
If though he is ineligible I...
very sad to see a footballer and individual such as Nathan Gilliland injured at this time of the year. Highly unlikely he will play again this year if he indeed has a fractured scaphoid. He will be sorely missed by the Vultures
Also of note was a nasty knee injury to Brent Evans on the...
There are major concerns for the Magpies if they are dumped back to the Pineapple cup - their present playing list will be decimated with the very good players obviously being picked up other clubs still in the State League. Someone should give them plenty of notice if that is going to happen...
you are assuming the knock semi-final will be in Darwin. From what I have seen of Mt Gravatt over the past 2 years, Thunder have their measure at any ground with the exception of Traegar Park.
The Gardens or Dittmar Park it will be Thunder victory
