Some short observations:
1. I'm hooked, after round 1.
2. Darcy is a star.
3. We look well balanced.
4. Princes Park under lights... how great was that?
5. Lauren Arnell is a great communicator ... excellent media performer.
6. Eddie is a disgrace for not turning up. All talk, no action.
7...
I can certainly find you an example of Ross Lyon miscalculating a players' leadership contribution: Luke Ball. And it probably cost Ross a premiership in the end.
I recognise that AFL is a business, and can be a pretty cynical and unforgiving but I love the emotion of this draft...
- SPS wanting to come to Melbourne after mastering the move from Halls Creek to Perth, including learning a new language
- Fisher being Dennis' third cousin
- Alex Silvagni...
Would be nice if we got Jarman with a later pick. Has plenty of upside. Plus, it would irk a few at Adelaide. Gibbs and Jarman running around in navy blue.
Great attitude and great bloke.
While he is probably in our best 22 in Round 1, I hope he's not in our best 22 by the end of the year. That will signify proper development.
Some don't have a clear understanding of SOS. Two very different situations, GWS and Carlton.
At GWS he had massive concessions. Unprecedented with one exception - GC. By that comparison, only one year apart, with essentially the same concessions, he is looking like a very good list manager...
Taranto at pick 5 would be great.
Obvious replacement for Murph in terms of what he'll offer medium and long-term.
Great in combination with Crippa.
Like what I see / hear in relation to character too. Hard worker with big upside.
Hmm, maybe you should read a little expert commentary. Most declaring our trade result excellent.
Lost Tuohy, gained Marchbank, Pickett (proper young talent) and kept #5. Kept Gibbs.
Massive FA kitty for next two years.
Backline rebuilt after two years trading and drafting. Forward line...
The wash:
Carlton: happy. Got the players we'd identified pre-trade period, and kept #5. Kept Gibbs. Expect him to slot straight back in, and play out his career as a one club player. Expect his young lad to be drafted by us under the F-S rule.
Adelaide: no closer to a flag, arguably further...
There's a big upside to keeping Gibbs: clear message to every other club we won't be stuffed around on trades. We've made the point without having to lose anyone in the PSD (like PA did with Stevens).
Thinking of any game in particular? Perhaps the 2011 Elimination Final where he kicked 3 goals and smashed you by 10 goals? Wasn't Gibbs who didn't handle the heat. Bad loss for you: convinced your club that it needed to use performance enhancing drugs.
My test for a mentally fragile footballer is Jobe Watson: too weak to say not to hundreds of non-medical injections for banned substances. OK, it's a pretty low test. Gibbs would pass it though.
Have a sook. You have no idea what the "personal reasons" are. There is no public information available about how badly he wants to go home, or whether it is just a preference. You're making assumptions.
Think about it this way: we live in a country where anyone, even the village idiot, can make a success of their life. Cornes and Darcy are inspirations, in that sense.
That's what I think about every time I read something Robbo has belched. That an illiterate, illogical fool could be the chief...
Echoes of the Menzel for 28 & Kerridge deal. Doesn't look good on the surface, but likely SOS has reached agreement with GWS that they'll part with Marchbank and Pickett (and maybe one more makes it a better deal) for a late 1st. If it turns out to be Zac + 2017 2nd (#20) for Marchbank, Pickett...
Geelong win, but Zac uncontracted, so a little hamstrung.
Still, it will allow us to on trade to GWS.
So in effect: Zac Tuohy + Early Second Rounder for Marchbank, Pickett & Smedts
Keep #5.
No rush on Gibbs.
Looking likely:
Cats' 2017 1st and exchange of picks / players for Zac Tuohy.
On traded to GWS for Marchbank & Pickett.
Carlton keep #5.
More relaxed about whether Gibbs trade gets done.
H-S reporting "Prestia and pick 24 will head to Punt Rd in exchange for the No.6 draft pick and Richmond’s second-round selection next season."
So if Richmond finish bottom 5, they will pay more than pick 6. That's worked out well for them. :D
Speaking TWR... how funny a few mins ago when some guy called up to suggest a three way with JOM and X Richards and picks...?
Cornes: "whoa, you're going to fast" [for my little brain to keep up]
Fernanda: "I don't think there's time for a third team to get involved" ... WTF? There's 26 hours...
