Irish media is one thing, what about the Irish people?

As an Irishman I have to say the IR is embarassing to watch. The players that represent us never seem to look like they're properly trying to stand up to the Aussies. For God's sake somebody throw a dig for once! The problem I have with the Aussies is that they threw a punch...

Shock as Gaelic Football star dies

This was an unbelievable shock. When you consider the Linfield supporters club sent a gesture of condolence to Cormac's family (supporters noted for their loyalist paramilitary links), it truly shows what an impact his death had, especially in the North. Nice tribute guys. RIP Cormac.

    Congratulations to England!

coyler, I saw the RTE commentators talking about that at half time. I thought it was a bit pathetic to be honest. Isn't the guy with the water hooked up to a microphone anyway? Why didn't they just relay messages through him?? Anyway, as much as it sickens me I have to say congratulations...

Georgian Captain: I think we will win all the matches!

Maybe history has something to do with the fact that the world likes to see England getting beaten? I'd honestly prefer any other team win the WC than England. Not because I hate England or English people, just because I think it's a natural state of mind to be in (it that makes any sense)...

    How do you whistle?

1)Use two fingers to push the tip of your tongue backwards, like you're folding it in half. 2)Blow:rolleyes:

    Books

I was going to say Hand of God by Jimmy Burns. A great read. Jimmy Burns also wrote a book called Barca. I haven't read it but heard it was pretty good. Also the Keane book was interesting. I read that one you mentioned Dipper, about the hooligans. Crazy sh*t! One to avoid is Andy...

Rugby Leage - Toughest Sport in the world?

I think people think Aussie Rules is anarchy because the images people have of it are of twenty people chasing the ball, one person picks it up, gets slung to the ground, the ball spills loose and the chase continues again etc. It looks like a game without any rules to people who've never seen...

    All Black v England

Apologies Dipper, I guess I just prefer the All Blacks to England, that's all. I promise I'll try and remain neutral for the England-Australia game. By the way, with all the talk of hard pitches for the WC, how hard are the pitches down under at the moment? I understand it's your winter...

Rugby Leage - Toughest Sport in the world?

Just to throw in my tuppence worth, I played hurling and RU until I was 16 and I wouldn't say hurling's as dangerous as RL or RU. There's plenty of cuts and bruises but rarely the sort of serious spinal and head injuries you'd get in the rugby codes. I actually had four of my baby teeth...

    All Black v England

Interesting stuff that's for sure. As much as I would have liked England to lose this one, it certainly makes me look forward to the WC a lot more. I didn't see the game, but heard on the radio that NZ had a scrum 5 metres from the line, which was wheeled by SIX England forwards. Is this...

    David Beckham's Hair

I used to say that about Denis Rodman, although I don't know if he was a Preston fan. Seriously, the haircut is a joke. Apparently Beckham is an icon in the black community in the UK. WTF:confused:

    UEFA Cup Final

My heart says Celtic. My head agrees with you on this one. The heat is supposed to be unreal over there, 43 degrees yesterday. Although they said it might "drop" to 30 degrees for the game. Celtic have played above themselves in this campaign, I just think this is a step too far, but touch...

    ESPN commentary ...

Tommy Smyth's a ****ing **** "Ah begorra, I think I'll talk like a wee Leprechaun cos the Americans love me brogue. Look, he's stuck it in the onion bag!" Another Americanism: "That was a great play"

    Arsenal Skint

Now that's the best idea I've heard yet. They could redevelop Lansdowne if they turned the pitch 90 degrees and used the land in the back pitch. But of course the chaps in Lansdowne RFC would be none too happy about it:rolleyes:

    Brainteaser...

Well the bloke who asked the question seems to think so, that's the 11 he was thinking of. I honestly don't know Brolin's role. If he was only an assistant, then that means there's only been 10 foreign managers since the Premiership started. I was sure there'd be a lot more:confused:

    Arsenal Skint

Spot on Blues, the GAA owe their members, nobody else. But don't they owe their members the right to have a say in this? I'm a member who supports opening up Croke Park to other sports but who listens to people like me (and there are MANY who feel the same way) Croker is in serious debt...

Dipper ya legend! That's the missing two. Thanks for your help guys. Here's the 11: Houllier, Wenger, Tigana, Ranieri, Vialli, Gullit, Olsen, Ardiles, Gross.....Lombardo and Brolin:cool:

    Brainteaser...

windyhill, They have to be Premiership managers. I think that rules out Venglos (c.1990/91?). I think you're going to be right about it being a caretaker manager, I'll let you know when I find out. Cheers for your help anyway, I'll leave it another couple of days, as bigfooty usually...

    Brainteaser...

Can anyone name 11 foreign Premiership managers past or present? Note: Does not inclcude Scottish, Irish or Welsh managers. Someone asked me this last night and I'm stumped. I have 8 so far, but the last few are pretty difficult. It's a lot harder than it sounds! Cheers

    Newsflash:England supports don't......................

:D I can't believe 10 of them managed to get arrested in the hooligan hotbed of Liechtenstein. Apparently the gates were too small as the fans were leaving, so the police asked the fans at the back to stop pushing forward, and the fans got angry and started to throw things at the police...

    The 6 Nations

Well since you put it so nicely then I'll come out of hiding! Nah seriously, well done to England, they gave a lesson not just in how to play rugby but also in sheer single-mindedness and will to win that people will remember for a while yet. I was gutted after the game though. I know this...

    The 6 Nations

:D Yeah, real funny. Get your little dig in! Tell you what, you give us back Kieran Bracken and we'll give you back Maggs. On second thoughts.... How's the build up to the game over the water Dipper? There's a real buzz over here, the bandwagon has swelled to breaking point, and people...

    The 6 Nations

Nah, I'm going to be put on my green specs and say I'd still go for Henderson:) For the next Lions tour, yeah Greenwood and O'Driscoll would make a good pairing. Then again the coach might have other ideas, whoever gets the job.

    The 6 Nations

I don't know of any team in the world capable of putting in an 80 minute game these days. One of the England players, I think it was Steve Thomson, was saying every team, even the likes of Italy, are going to have their moments in the ascendancy, it's a matter of who can make the most of their...

    The 6 Nations

I forgot to mention that alright. The pressure is starting to show but I don't think that was the only reason for the mediocre display against Wales. I think Ireland lacked the fear of losing that's vital to focus minds. You can be sure that's going to be present for the visit of England...
