Jordy's response to kicking that goal was "job not done yet".
It’s funny, he kicks that goal after the mid-air handball from Nick, and does a bit of a side shuffle… I was thinking it was almost Dids-shimmy-like.

But better as you say to move on to the next contest and get the game won.

Yes I've thought about that a lot. Cameron's was the first goal of the quarter and his carry-on was a complete contrast to Jordy.
Cameron's celebration was great - joy (if it wasn't at our expense). Jordy's too - there's a moment where he just puffs his chest in a we rock pose. What a ****ing game that was. Awesome respect for both teams.

Might just be me, but after my 1033rd viewing of the GF replay there exists a small but present sense of emptiness knowing there's still 4ish months before we get to see this side back on the field. After the siren blows its like "oh, so who do we play next?". The answer is no one, there is nothing more to be played. There's no more challengers, no loophole where Melbourne get to play us in a moral Grand Final. That really is all she wrote for season 2023. It's as glorious as it is isolating.

All this lamenting has me thinking I need to get more into the NBA around this time of year :drunk:

On another note, one of the more exciting elements about following this club week in week out over the last half a decade since 2018 or so is this "chip on our shoulder" having missed out on ultimate glory so close before. The highs are higher and the lows are lower. But after finally reaching the top with nothing more to prove there's a small sense of disappointment that we're no longer the hunters, we were the best and there's nothing they can do or say about it.

I'm sure once preseason media comes into full swing underrating our ability to go back to back this element of excitement to the games will return and it will bring pleasure to watch on as pundit after pundit are forced to back track harder than Steven May on Cup Day.

Took a deep breath and watched the replay yesterday, whole game, first time since GF weekend. Started off feeling anxious but gradually relaxed into it.

Geez it was a good game. So many who contributed, so much tension, so many outstanding individual efforts yet a whole of game cumulative effort. We just simply never gave up. I know we talk about culture, but our club has real character. Our brand is to find a way.

I didnt think I could love Markov more - but I do! And a year ago I didnt even know who he was.

I think Maynard recently said that it was the hardest game he'd ever played in - and it looked like it.

I also watched some pre-game and post-game coverage.

Do yourselves a favour and watch the immediate post-game show on 7+ - its only available for another week or so. Has footage and interviews (including in the rooms afterwards) that I hadn't seen before, which in itself is surprising given the tsunami of footage which has followed the win.
Thanks for that. Great call.

Just watched the post match on 7 + or Now or whatever they call it. Some great interviews and footage that l hadn't seen before.

Just spoke with a life long mate who I’d lost contact with for various reasons for a couple of years, unintended on both our parts. We’d both been desperate to contact each other and today it happened thankfully. We spent most of our conversation rejoicing over the GF and the last two seasons overall. To hear a dear friend who I converted to Aussie Rules and the Pies many years ago, who’d been through some tough times recently so joyous and deeply affected by the GF win was wonderful. Go Pies

Imagine if Callum Brown got picked up by another club as SSP at the start of this year, and then he somehow went on to become a Premiership player this season …

… that’s basically what Markov has managed to do.

Got a few picks with the medal on with a Magpie at a party.

Highlight :)

Some take outs

-Beau McCreery is ridiculously strong benches 120kg

-Treloar most professional he’s played with, he was squatting 320kg as a young bloke

-JDG is a freak, best aerobic at club, goes midfield late in most games as he runs harder than others

McReery benches around 150kg.
Best aerobic at club is Sidebottom, WHE and Edward Allan.
Jordy is certainly up there.

Not to be all la-di-da, but that is a top end powerlifting number. I don't think any AFL footballer squats 320kg.

Unless one of them is a grizzly bear amongst us and has kept it under wraps all these years, that is.

Like seeing Daisy Thomas in the rooms hugging Fly. He is still a Pies man.

Let another month pass and this time I rewatched Foxtel’s On The Couch post-GF episode.

This is the one to watch for a detailed breakdown of the plays, and interpretation of the stats.

Plus it features a beaming Bucks and a gracious Jonathon Brown.

Once again I am reminded of how meticulously this GF win was planned, to exploit Brisbane’s weaknesses and nullify their strengths (with some exceptions).

And we extracted some extraordinary efforts from our players. Sidey’s long goal in the last was only the ninth time he has kicked a goal from outside 50. Pendles’ fourth quarter was also statistically one of the best of his incredible career.

The show is full of this stuff. A must see if you haven’t already.

Might watch that one tonight, followed by the replay!

Haven’t seen the show, (yet) so not sure if they mentioned his goal in the 3rd qtr?
Apparently it was his first goal in a Grand Final 😳

Next time you watch the Grand Final, look out for a nice bit of physics at play …

Grand Final day was one of those typical days in Melbourne that has a mild northerly wind - it was a hot day of 29 degrees and bone dry,

The MCG stands offer good protection from any wind, but regardless, the 10 knot northerly shouldn’t have favoured either side …

… but clearly inside the stadium there was a westerly breeze that favoured the Punt road end. How?

Have a look at what the sun was doing to the stands throughout the game. The Punt road end stands were bathed in hot sunlight compared with those at the city end which were in shade. The air at the punt road end would have been heated by the the stands and risen up (as hot air does) thus creating a vacuum behind it. That vacuum would have dragged in the cool air off the city end part of the ground / stands. All of this would have created a local weather pattern of what was effectively a westerly breeze inside the stadium.

Crisp took advantage of it for two long range goals at the Punt road end, and Sidey clearly knew what was going on for his long range goal.
