Chad Warner
When the Sydney Swans swept up Chad Warner with pick 39 at the 2019 AFL Draft, they secured a youngster with an insatiable appetite for the contest. Warner attacks the ball and opponents with aggression and is relishing calling midfield bulls Josh Kennedy and Luke Parker his teammates at the Swans. Warner impressed for Western Australia in the 2019 AFL Under-18 Championships, averaging 18.2 touches (50 per cent contested), 3.2 clearances and 6.8 tackles per game. He also tallied an average of 27.1 disposals, 6.4 clearances and 7.4 tackles per match at Colts level for East Fremantle in 2019. He earned his AFL debut against Richmond in Round 6 of the 2020 season, recording eight disposals and two tackles.

Chad Warner
DOB: 19 May 2001
DEBUT: 2020
DRAFT: #39, 2019 National Draft
RECRUITED FROM: Willetton (WA)/Aquinas College (WA)/East Fremantle (WAFL)

It’s best for me to mentally prepare for his departure. I’ll enjoy his last year with us and then optimistically look forward to him becoming Tim Kelly and us getting the equivalent draft haul.

😂 Good point. That is indeed where he was selected. Touché.

Do you happen to have statistics of the time he spent forward rather than midfield?
I've got no idea. There used to be heat maps that showed where players generally won most of their footy, but I can't seem to find them now!

Warner in the centre is fine, as long as you have two ball winners with him. Same goes with Gulden.

If Mills gets back to his best and it isn't just all being left to Rowbottom and Heeney, then Warner is fine in the middle.

I love the last part of it haha as if we can tell him where to buy property...

We will get a good haul if he goes to Fremantle he will play finals and boost them significantly while the Eagles are 5 years away from a top 4 finish so his prime will be wasted.

Its one player sure a very good one but teams win flags with balance and mindset

How would we get full value? He’s out of contract and will no doubt name a club.

Dawson take 2. 🎬 wonderful. Only way this works out for both is if we win the flag and he walks for probably well unders.

Or we don’t win the flag and get bugger all.
And we could have got a swag if we had the guts to pull the trigger this off season.

likelyhood pick 15-18 from Freo that turns into 20-24 after academy etc.

I don't understand though. If he wants to go back to WA so much, and has already decided he is going back, why didn't he request a trade a few months ago? Our bargining position would have been so much better in 2024 than it will be in 2025.

We are in the window now. Best to gamble some bargaining position to increase your chance of winning a flag in 2025 and still having a chance to keep him (ala Papley).

We got screwed on the Dawson trade but Warner is a different situation. Dawson wasn’t as highly considered industry wise as Sydney. Adelaide are also pricks.

Better examples of out of contract trades that match Warner’s situation are Luke Jackson, Tim Kelly, and Tim Taranto.
Luke Jackson is the one I would use as a comparison

Very similar situation to Chad - in demand by both WA clubs, being offered big money on a lengthy deal, out of contract

Melbourne got 2 x 1sts and a 2nd for a couple of late picks back

Don’t know if I agree with this. I think after Dawsons last Swans season he was thought of very highly. Certainly higher than pick 18.
