Chad Warner
When the Sydney Swans swept up Chad Warner with pick 39 at the 2019 AFL Draft, they secured a youngster with an insatiable appetite for the contest. Warner attacks the ball and opponents with aggression and is relishing calling midfield bulls Josh Kennedy and Luke Parker his teammates at the Swans. Warner impressed for Western Australia in the 2019 AFL Under-18 Championships, averaging 18.2 touches (50 per cent contested), 3.2 clearances and 6.8 tackles per game. He also tallied an average of 27.1 disposals, 6.4 clearances and 7.4 tackles per match at Colts level for East Fremantle in 2019. He earned his AFL debut against Richmond in Round 6 of the 2020 season, recording eight disposals and two tackles.

Chad Warner
DOB: 19 May 2001
DEBUT: 2020
DRAFT: #39, 2019 National Draft
RECRUITED FROM: Willetton (WA)/Aquinas College (WA)/East Fremantle (WAFL)

if you look at it more positively, we could probably get a beyond gun player for what we would have to pay chad anyway

yeah theyre probably not chad but if we spent that $$$ on someone that was 80% chad then its really only -20% output from a single player

not the end of the world

Realistically what gun is going to come , we havnt signed anyone of not for 11 years.

Looking at our trade history of notable (open to interpretation) names:

Baker-14
Brockman- 44, 63
Kelly, 57, Cats F3 for 14,24,37, F1
Jetta-swap for Sinclair
Redden-17
Yeo-28
Wellingham-17

Sure some worked out better than others and some were flops but at the time of trade I don’t think anyone would argue we underpaid for any of those players.

Two well run clubs that have always traded in good faith with each other, hid picks for each other etc. There’s also plenty of alumni at both clubs Cox, Pyke, Jack etc.

Obviously it’s never ideal to lose such a high quality player IF he requested a trade, but I don’t see a situation where you’re inadequately compensated.

We think Liam Baker is worth pick 14 FFS.
Yeah it’s a fair summation.

Likely a top 3-5 pick this year and it's one of the better drafts to get a prime pick and maybe a first another year. Look will they be Chad probably not but people are worrying about this way too much, we will be fine. If it comes to it, Sheldrick more in the middle, Cleary ready to genuinely play mid, etc. That is just from within not even counting the bloke we draft at pick 5 (on a low end no way WCE go better than that)

He will sign

End of February

2 years imo, and it makes sense been saying it for 6 monyths. Plays in our window then leaves when WCE are in theirs. Players don't want to play in losing sides

I really like this portrait of Chad. I think it shows a multi-dimensional persona with some vulnerability that he rarely displays.

This portrait of JPK shows an extra dimension.
This is who we really miss.
The rest of the players on our list who dropped two chances can all chase their money for all I care.
Not up to any team greatness Josh achieved other than individual accolades.

I wish I could love this ten thousand times.

Though I must add Ted, my beloved Joey was part of the 2014 debacle 😞

Always had the impression, rightly or wrongly, that JPK had that old school loyalty. I'm sure he would've had many chances to leave and go back to the Hawks or any other Melbourne club. The pull would've been strong given his tight knit family and the money most probably would've been better. Yet he stuck with the club that had given him his chance and retired as one of our all time greats, only moving back home at the end of his career. I can't imagine Joey would be letting the current circus around Chad's contract play out if he was in the same position.

They really don't make them like they used too........

I think we do. We have not had a great few drafts.

This notion is overstated. Only 2022 was a bust.

2020 was a great draft. We got Errol, Logan and BJ. They will play more than 500 games between them. People only complain because they look at selections where BJ and Logan were taken.

2021 we got Sheldrick, Roberts and Warner. It's too soon to declare but: snagging Roberts with our second pick was brilliant - he looks like he has a long career in front of him. Sheldrick was a bolter and we're still crossing our fingers about him. And Warner is a decent player and outstanding athlete who may or may not make it at AFL level taken at pick 40.

2022 was a bust.

2023 looks solid - Green, Cleary, Snell & Kirk.

2024 - absolutely too soon to say.

This tread will be like fox media, just go around in circles for however long it takes
By the way Chad is a different person and player than Joey

Uh oh, who forgot to run this topic past Bedford?
Full House 90S GIF

! just saying it how it is thanks , why bring a little girl into it
It's a current topic concerning a player from our team, so whats wrong with the discussion?

Perhaps first thing every Monday morning, you should post a list of acceptable topics that we are permitted to discuss, so that we don't upset your sensitivities.

So if he does re-sign for 2 years, how much are you prepared for the club to give up to keep him here before he leaves as a free agent in 2027 (knowing that draft will be more compromised than the GWS and GC drafts)?

Why the little girl video and it's not Monday
I just said it's going around in circles and you can't compare him to Joey , i'm allowed the same as you are !

I am on the fence about even keeping him in the first place. If he's leaving in 2 years...we won't get a better chance to so called sell high.

WCE have the capital that's appealing. Lets say they finish 16th this year okay. Pick 3 would be ours, that gets a high end midfielder in BEFORE we have to bother matching our kids for starters.

If it's a deal of pick 3-5 (this year) plus a f1 (2027) for Warner and our f2/f3. I'd almost sell him this year. For me this year is the last time we will have the opportunity to sell high we have to take it if he's leaving.

The last thing we want is to have to trade the bloke in 2028 (after keeping him for a year or two) which are ravaged by Tassie drafts and picks are near useless plus WCE have improved by then.

I bet you can't wait for a thread to start lol

I'll be coming off a handicap lol

But no on serious note I feel we have to be beyond ruthless in this decision and I hope the club is. Now if there wasn't Tassie coming in I'd be more inclined to punt on turning him around, but if we have to deal every year or two about it, just sell high when we can.
