Re: Jesse Smith Asks For Trade

Can't say I agree with some of the sentiment here.

The club has stuck with this guy when things have been bad and as pointed out paid him good money while at it. I liken this to telling your wife to **** off after she has cared for you through a bout of cancer and now your fit and healthy you are moving onto a new woman (if you can understand my anology?).

Jesse should be concentrating on getting himself fit and repaying North Melbourne for the faith they have shown in him, instead of looking for some magic cure at another club. But if guys like this don't want to be part of the club, then as Scott said ship them out the door. If he does leave personally I couldn't give a **** if he never plays AFL again, because a person with that type of character doesn't deserve any well wishes or good luck.

Re: Jesse Smith Asks For Trade

I support the NMFC. Not Jesse W Smith. For those 'wishing him well' and bla bla bla, well whatever good for you. I don't give a toss about him or his future. Especially after he has been looked after by this club the last 5 years on a pretty reasonable wage. He has screwed this club, whether he meant to or not, and for that I will not forgive. Dog.

Hear Ye, Hear Ye.

Yes but if he doesn't want to be a part of our club then he can go screw himself.

It's no skin off our nose.

He'd be better off trying to get himself right.

That. :thumbsu:

I take your point. It would be hard to cop if he moved elsewhere, got his fitness right, and blitzed at another club.

But really, the odds of that happening are on a par with my chances of a late-night booty call from Jennifer Hawkins.

Re: Jesse Smith Asks For Trade

Hear hear on your big post, SLF. Brilliantly written.

I for one am getting pretty tired of seeing posters here react to news of Smith and Gibson walking with angry reactions of wished upon violence and injuries and I'm pretty sure my fellow mods are in the same boat. In fact, I haven't properly researched but that sort of behaviour may be against forum rules and if it is, I'm sure we have some tidying to do.

That is just not this board and not this club.

They had their time with us, they have chosen to move on for their own reasons. Thanks guys, but your lack of commitment to North in 2010 is a blessing. Welcome the two new blokes that do want to spill some of their blood next year and beyond.

Re: Jesse Smith Asks For Trade

I don't either and those wishing injury on the bloke should take a good hard look at themselves.
Agree.

Hope he can have better luck at the next club he goes to, would hate to see such a talent go to waste.

Re: Jesse Smith Asks For Trade

2 questions firstly does anyone have video footage of him playing, secondly how much do you think the kangaroos were offering him to stay for another year? This has nothing to do with collingwood just an AFL lover who wants to know. P.S I think he should stay with the side who has tried to get him fit and for him to want to be traded out is very selfish:thumbsdown:

Watch the 2007 prelim vs the Hawks. He's..... he's very good in that game.

i have no answers on them for you buddy.
but i can tell you that you blokes ran a medical on JWS and he failed last wednesday or so.

thanks for your interest

I'm not sure how you can argue with this - we've invested a hell of a lot in the bloke, so for him to walk is a pretty big kick in the guts.

Re: Jesse Smith Asks For Trade

Just for the record, if Jesse did fail Collingwood's medical, then
a) if he passes Geelong's/Brisbane's, does that make their medical team incompetent?
b) Is this a blessing in disguise - Jesse could really be on his last le...fibers.

Re: Jesse Smith Asks For Trade

Sorry to intrude but what are the reasons why he's requesting a trade? It's late, got work in the morning and I can't be bothered going through 5+ pages. You guys have stuck with him through all his injuries and now he requests a trade? That's ridiculous, he's lucky to still be on an AFL list and he owes you not the other way around. Would be like Coughlan of a year or 2 ago when he can't get on the park requesting a trade.

conspiracy theory #1

We all know JWS grew up around NMFC. He has it in his blood. Maybe he is, with orchestration of the NMFC footy department taking a hit for the survival of our club. Being traded out for something of value for north knowing full well he wont be able to make it.

haha!
who knows

Your guess as good as ours.

If I was going to hazard one though, I would say that we have a bloke that is slightly too precious for the regime that Brad Scott likely has set out for him and his team. This will be a new North and from memory, Smith has only known Laidley.

Not sure why he would think that would be different under Bomber though.

Re: Jesse Smith Asks For Trade

what do u mean by that filthy
too precious for the brad scott regime?

sounds like he just wants a fresh start at another club
has been rumours on here for ages that he hasnt been happy with the medicos

Re: Jesse Smith Asks For Trade

Seriously, who cares what the reasons are.

Shit happens, a lot better players crossed the fence; like Pickett, Bell, Carey, etc. At least they gave us great service for the money they commanded.

Smith was just a waste because he spend more time on his arse than on the park.

I don't like players who pull the plug half way through trade week, seriously, this decision should have been made a long time ago, he has had the contract offer for a long time now.

Had he given us more notice we could have shopped him around a lot more, as it is now, unless he is prepared to go to any club there isn't a lot of time to make a trade.

Re: Jesse Smith Asks For Trade

if we could manufacture a trade with the hawks and try get morton, kennedy or mcglynn i would be fairly happy with the trade.
morton and kennedy have actually been able to get onto the park in the last 2 years and show some good signs. mcglynn is a hard nut but also has a lot of flair and pass about him.
getting either of these guys would be much better than getting a mcdonald or wojo.
even getting mark williams (who has been rumoured to leave on the drafts and trading board) would be better than getting mcdonald.
the backline looks set for the next few years and really needs to spend a few solid years gelling together and getting to know eachothers game styles, ala, the geelong backline.
we really need some key forwards and pacey midfielders.
mark williams is a proven goal kicker who is somewhat of a dead-eyed-dick infront of goals.
if not either of these guys, would be happy to get gamble from geelong if possible. good hands, has a football body and just needs opportunities to prove his worth.

Re: Jesse Smith Asks For Trade

Forgive me but I'm already over it. This has Brad Scott written all over it.

Big call. Controversial call...

I think a certain B Scott is clearing the decks.

...consistent call.

JWS... zero value to our club ,yet we all love him .

It would seem that way, but I have never bought into the hype and have for some time been resigned to the probability that he would never deliver what so many promised.

That'd be awesome... but surely if that were the plan, we would have nudged him in Hawthorn's direction...

;)

What I mean _aria_ is why can't he consider a fresh start at North? Sounds to me like everything has changed at the club, including the medicos. He was raised with us, surely he would be stoked with the changes going on around him.

As I said, I was hazarding a guess. Scott seems like he has come in and already started asking questions of our guys the likes they have never heard. It takes a pretty soft sort of bloke to not reward the faith and investment that has been put in him by the club by staying when it finally looks to be the most beneficial to him.

It's his loss. The next pasture is no guarantee to be greener for a guy that has so far failed to get his body right for this sport.
