OK, I've removed about three pages of posts.

Please do not use this thread to speculate about Oliver's private life – medical or otherwise.

Regardless of the veracity of your rumour, or what you know/have heard, if it's not public knowledge, just don't post it.

I don't want to turn this place into Demonland, but if you can't see the potential harm that this sort of rumour-spreading can cause (regardless of your intentions), then perhaps it's best if you take a bit of a break.

Thanks.

Demonland is now reserved for discussions on club approved instagram posts only.

But you cant be critical of any spelling errors like the B&F post "Brashaw". Ban hammer will be used if you point it out.

Sorry Angus, you'll need to get your name changed.

That's very critical of Gus, suggesting a player needs to change his name to fall in line with the clubs spelling errors. . What a bind DL finds itself in.

Who said we needed a bounty. Would happily have taken 2 picks for him because you could see this was a big chance of happening back then. In fact a few of us even predicted it.
What would the two picks be? Who would give them up? Who would pay the contract? No one was taking him.
It was also mentioned by someone that we could have got picks for the Reid deal. Realistically one was giving up an anything decent.

Unless I dreamed the whole trade period Adelaide were chasing him

It was well documented that Adelaide were willing to give up two first round picks for Oliver.

They were a very interested club.

Doubt we'd have got two firsts by the time Adelaide did some digging.

Is there any word yet on what actually happened in Lorne?

Not really but the Hun article implied that it was evident early on in the day he was not going to cope with being on the camp for 4 days and a decision was made to send him home. No idea if there was a specific incident that prompted that.

It seems pretty clear he is nowhere near up to being a full time footballer at the moment and that being the case you'd think it would be better for the club to formalise an indefinite break until he is. He and the club don't need daily stories about whether he did or didn't get through/show up for training.

Geez there's a fair bit of (a) abandoning a bloke pretty ******* quickly when clearly, self-induced or not, he's not in a good way and (b) forgetting how critical he was in helping us end a 57 year Premiership drought. He has been an excellent player for our club.

I know i'll get told I'm a snowflake by the usual but I hope he is okay and we see him again. Salem's quote from the HS below:

“We are just thankful that he has a great support network with him,” Chrsitian Salem said. “The club are doing so much to be able to help him through it because it is challenging, not everyone on the outside knows exactly what is going on with him so there is a lot of speculation and you could imagine how he is feeling. But we will support him and try and help him get back on track.”
Spot on.

And yes, you’re a ****en snowflake if you don’t call for him to harden up and own himself and every decision.

Does he have some dramas? Yes. And for that he needs to own them and also work with specialists within his workplace to get him there. Plenty of dickheads forgetting that he is a 4x best and fairest winner plus a premiership player. Having a rough trot but things can turn.

That’s what was reported. Doubt we’d have got much in return though despite media reports. Huge contract and by the time they did some due diligence they’d have likely walked away.
We weren't smart enough to walk away so another club could easily be dumb to pay

It started out as a ban on discussions about Bartlett which was dumb but I kind of understood because of how litigious that guy is, then they just expanded it to any 'off-field' issues, which translates to anything that makes the club look bad. You can talk about Goodwin saving someone in Bali, Gawn and Green having babies but God forbid you discuss our highest paid player's career being on a knife's edge.

Next year you won't be able to discuss games Melbourne lose.
Very good Bl. Love your comment. It's turned into a clone of the MFC site only good news allowed.

Yeh he missed Saturday’s training session apparently.
He missed a lot of games last year and we still managed to make the top four. With a kpf in the last game we would have been in a prelim final. Leave him alone until he cures his problems when ever that is. We are still a good side with or without him. It also gives someone else a chance to show their stuff.

I'm sure he was just picking up Joel Smith for a night out...
What an idiot, doesn't learn from his mistakes, how many chances does he thinks he deserves.
Wouldn't even be mad if we trade him out at the end of the season now.
In a prophetic way. I sense we will have a number of early picks in 2024 national draft, as well as trades coming in.

A real list churnover. To let the cream rise.

It May well be that with all our rebuilding from 10 yrs ago... that a solitary Premiership flag is all she wrote from that.

Good on Oliver's manager I guess, getting him a long term deal knowing he could lose the plot at any moment. Played us like a fiddle.
Not to defend Oliver or the deal but in the current climate I can see how the club got sucked into a long deal for him

Some big accolades as a player who was due to hit FA and would be a hot commodity on the market (regardless on indiscretions at the time)

The Brayshaw and Harmes deals on the other hand I have NFI how anyone signed off on them

Brayshaw deal was ridiculous.

If the club knew about Oliver's 'issues', then shame on them for putting that contract up. I have no issues with the Trac contract. The guy is a pro and in our top 3 players. Brayshaw on the other hand is not and with his concussion concerns, it was just madness offering that length.

Seems odd in hindsight but hindsight is easy.

Brayshaw hadn’t had any concussion issues for years prior to his deal and he’s regarded as possibly the best clubman that we have. Not to mention that he’d be a starting mid in any other team but hugely sacrificed his game for the team.

Oliver’s deal seems a little more questionable to me, but when they were ironing those terms out he was widely considered in the top 3 or 4 players in the game - if not the best.

Some real overrating of Brayshaw here. He's not that good as a midfielder let's not pretend he's Stevie J playing forward because he's behind Ablett Bartel etc.
6 years for him was ridiculous and if he wanted to leave at any point then so be it a contract won't stop it anyway.

Oliver deal was equally stupid.
There's a world where both can't see out long portions of those deals and we've completely ****ed our club for no reason at all.
