OK, I've removed about three pages of posts.

Please do not use this thread to speculate about Oliver's private life – medical or otherwise.

Regardless of the veracity of your rumour, or what you know/have heard, if it's not public knowledge, just don't post it.

I don't want to turn this place into Demonland, but if you can't see the potential harm that this sort of rumour-spreading can cause (regardless of your intentions), then perhaps it's best if you take a bit of a break.

Thanks.

The punters out in blacktown probably punching out 70 hour working week.
The AFL should offer the Sydney teams a shared equity model since the COLA is just about helping these players get a roof over their heads.

While I definitely see your point, he's played 138 of a possible 151 games since drafted.

Hence my counter balance point stating he never misses a game :p

Doesn't mean it cant catch up with him at some point.

Some guys are freaks however who play hard and never miss games (see Selwood) and Oliver likely is one of them

They lost COLA right after the deal was done, didn't they?

Yes, but they were still able to likely pay him a fortune in the first year of his contract knowing that COLA wasn't being removed until the following season.

Might have helped them get him in his first season but Franklin's deal was massively backended. So they did need to work out how to fit the rest of the players in around him down the track.

Swans have hit the draft pretty hard in recent years , couldn't pay Alir or Dawson. (could argue Dawson was a mummy's boy and leaving regardless of the deal offered but still, couldn't afford too offer him a fortune like they once could have)

I think that was fully within the scope of their plans. They got Franklin when they were in their window and he got the majority of his money when they started their rebuild. Now they've revitalised their list and are getting ready to go again with Franklin's deal coming to an end. Having the academy helps a lot with list management though.

Where will we be in 5-6 years though? Probably doing/having done some form of mini rebuild I guess.

likely winning our 6th or 7th flag in a row

Franklin getting done for drugs and taking time away from the game I dont think was in their plans.

Yuck. It's actually ridiculous how out of touch footballers are when they're complaining about house prices and rent when they earn on average 400k a year. How do they reckon the other 5 million Sydney residents get by?

Agree. House prices gonna slump over the next year as regular working people get smashed by interest rate rises.
AFL players on decent contracts who want to invest in the property market will not only be able to buy nice houses they'll make a killing on investment properties come the next housing boom.

Probably not but I'm not sure what relevance that has.

Yep, going to be a fire sale for investors if owner-occupiers need to downsize.

They were able to get a high pick to select Logan McDonald

Their rebuild probably doesn't look as good if they dont have him to fall back on as a KPF coming thru.

they got very very lucky North didn't pick him. Already looking like a massive blunder picking Phillips over him

Eh Franklin can only do so much. Probably don't finish much higher in 2020 even if he plays every game.

Im not so sure. Once he was out I think "play the kids" was quickly determined as the best way to turn lemons into lemonade, tanking without being outed as tankers.

Haha I just got curious about games missed so I had a look.

Luke Parker, Travis boak (and selwood) a few that come to mind, and up until his health turned, cunnington was another. Slightly different roles but Mundy and pendles have had great durability. Obviously they've gone a lot more outside as they've gone on, and hopefully our boy can keep adding that to his game.

Fun fact but if he (Grimesy touches wood) continues to play same percentage of games, he should bring up game 300 around age 31 nearing 32. The durability of the guys mentioned in last paragraph is bloody insane.

Clarrie - Dee for life
Trac - Dee for life
Viney - Dee for life
Fair midfield methinks
Me - very happy
What are Sparrow and Jordan's contract situations?? Would love to lock them away too

Are we doing pairing contracts?
JJ and Sparrow - best mates
Luke and Riv - best mates
Trac and Clarrie - tick
Kozzie, Trent and Jackson are super tight so hoping that brings them over the line. Rivers and Jackson played junior footy together
