OK, I've removed about three pages of posts.

Please do not use this thread to speculate about Oliver's private life – medical or otherwise.

Regardless of the veracity of your rumour, or what you know/have heard, if it's not public knowledge, just don't post it.

I don't want to turn this place into Demonland, but if you can't see the potential harm that this sort of rumour-spreading can cause (regardless of your intentions), then perhaps it's best if you take a bit of a break.

Thanks.

Well, old mate Purple thinks we should be getting Pick 1 AND 3/4 for Oliver. He'd go well with our representatives over on the trades board.

Adrian Dodoro agrees thats what we should get.

Imagine those two as list managers trying to work out a deal. No chance.

That what I think getting one of the most proven elite midfielders in the league

I would argue there is a low chance of any of the players we draft with those picks being as good as Oliver

Agree with that in isolation – you're unlikely to draft one guy who's as good as Oliver. But if we can do some manouevering and end up with two high-end picks for Clarry, the equation then becomes him vs two potentially high-end players and whatever we do with the massive cap space that the deal frees up.

Do I think we've handled this pretty poorly? Yes. But I also think we can find a way to win out of the situation if he ends up going.

What did Horne Francis go for last year? Would argue Oliver is similar value

Pick 3, a future first, some late picks and a downgrade from Pick 1 to Pick 2

2 good players will always be better than one even though it doesn't seem like it. I still think this is just a kick up the arse to get his shit in order off field. Hopefully it doesn't become a Stringer situation for you guys

I wouldn't mind the Cats being Clarry's preferred option and trying to get their first pick (currently 7) and Max Holmes + potentially some change.

I rate Holmes massively and he has a nice inside/outside game.

Then we'd have picks 5, 7 and 13. Could try to use them to get pick 1 or just take three of the best kids we can (which is my preference).

We'd still need to add a back-up ruck to Max (preferably a forward/ruck) and some more midfield depth but our draft and salary cap hand would be phenomenal.

Jesse Hogan going to GWS from Freo? Granted it was his 3rd chance

trying to think of players that got the arse from a club for off field issues and really killed it at their new club/made their old club look stupid. I can't think of any?
Stengle is a recent example

Brodie Grundy left Pies in arguably a similar situation, in a more 'in demand' position on the field, with only 5 years left on a similar contract.

He left for Pick 27 with the Pies still covering 1/3 of his wage...........................................

what stars have been giving the arse by their clubs for off field issues recently? I can only really think of Hogan & Bennell and not sure if you could call either of them stars

Most of the stars with off field issues the club has supported have turned it around from memory

There's not many I can think of recently:
  • Lachie Hunter for a future third-rounder
  • Stengle (delisted)
  • Hogan for Pick 54
  • Didn't Garlett have some off field issues when he was traded to us for Pick 61 and 79?
But for every good one is Freo taking a punt on a headcase and having it blow up in their faces (McCarthy, Hogan, Sylvia, Bennell)

None of them are really stars either. Good to very good players though

Ablett Snr

Did cost him about 5 flags though.

The way the club has been silent whilst feeding pieces of info through journos really seems like we are trying to scare Clarry into bringing him to the table.

Kind of like, we covered for you through the whole season and you threw it back in our faces. Now we are going to leak info to the public so they see our side of the story and potentially soften the blow if it doesn't work out.

It feels like a live situation where Clarry could also walk. Just my 2c

The Edmund piece on SEN sounds more promising in terms of retaining Clarry.
It does, though if this is all true (which is starting to appear so), it's pretty disappointing from a 26-year-old who's been on the list for eight years.

You can't have one of your best, senior players waltzing around treating players and officials poorly and not preparing to the standards of a professional athlete. That sort of stuff can be hugely damaging to a club's culture, which at the end of the day is a higher priority than how many contested possessions Clarry can accumulate.

You'd want some pretty concrete assurances from his end before committing to another year of that behaviour when the club is supposed to be competing for a flag, IMO.

All we heard in 2021 was how cohesive and selfless the group was. There's now been numerous cracks in that since, which certainly wouldn't be helping us achieve what we want to achieve.
