I had assumed the same as aria (oh dear) and figured that after Ross' impressive couple of games towards the end of last season before his injury that he would be a lock for round 1 this year. Very surprising he hasn't got a game yet. His injection of pace and silky skills are precisely what is required right now.

Ross showed what he could do in that night game against Geelong last year. He was fabulous, unfortunately he injured his ankle and never got another look in.

He must be given another go. I do not care if his VFL form is not outstanding because he could be a kid that can rise to the occasion.
Lachie was the same in the VFL, not really doing much at all, but put him in the firsts and he has improved with every game.

Same with Warren, he must be played. He has been on the list for more than 3 years, how do you know if he is up to it unless you give him a game or two?
Surely the coaching staff need to find this out because why on earth would you want to keep him on the list for another year if you are not going to try him out?

Interestingly I asked two recently retired NMFC players recently who was the developing player I would be most excited to go and watch over the next few years. Both answered without hesitation Ben Ross.

He will be the replacement for Boomer, he has a good goal sense but is quick and creative with the ball. Not sure why he isn't being played every week even if he is not going to give maximum return, getting 20 or so extra games into him will only make him better prepared.

There's no doubt a lot of faith in him. It's obvious, whether he's just been getting his body right I'm not sure. He'll play games this year though, and plenty of them I think.

The way Harvey has been going I'd be tempted to start now :)

The issue for most coaches is trying to balance success with development...without success sponsors dont sponsor and people dont buy memberships..without development well you know what happens.....throw in a contract renewal and it makes for interesting times...

having said that if the clubs plan is spelt out...in other words we do a hawhthorn and tell the world we have a 3 -5 year plan where we will play kids and we do it then I reckon you get the credibility without having to be top 4 every year.......The hawks have done this perfectly.....everyone cut them slack and it played out the way they said it would....

it only goes pear shaped if you dont have the right people managing the plan.....to be honest Laidley has been there long enough and I cant recall hearing about is plan for the club...there was talk about a change of game plan a few years back...thats about it....

The time has come for the club to decide...we have a core group of quality kids....a core group of senior players.....a bunch of try hards and a coach with no long term plan.......I think the decision is a simple one.

It was reported earlier in the week that Ross was feeling a bit of hamstring tightness/soreness, which surely explains why he hasn't been picked in the 1's this week.

must still have that sore hamstring
struggled in the VFL last weekend only managed to rack up about 30 touches

with campbell out injured and thomas disgracefully out of form there is just no room in our side for a player of bens type

Hmm.
While I am happy with Levi getting a gig i'm putting it down to soreness, it must be, there is no reason why The Boss wouldn't be in the side. It is tricky...Thomas was poor but knowing him he'll end up dominating this week so I wouldnt be keen to drop him.

Anthony(inj), Wells(inj), The Boss, Harris all not in the team. Tricky indeed.
When those two get fit along with JW things will be very interesting.
Dont even get me started if Riggio hits some form in the twos.
And Patch! who by all reports is doing pretty well in the middle for werribee.

Dare I say...
Depth?

Interesting time for team selections in the coming weeks.

And Swallow, Simpson and Rawlings so your point would be?

Swallow is a clerance pig, Simmo is a legend of the club and Rawlings is our best shutdown player. That's the point.

the point would be that frequent and effective ball use facilitates scoring which wins games...to wit Ziebell and Warren against Essendon and the midfield of most premiership teams.

I would be arguing for a 10 man bench.

Actually that is not the point is it. The only reason he suggested dropping Power for Ross was use of the ball. the rest is actually irrelevant to his argument.

If he said I think Ross could do Power's role better and stated reasons why then he might have made a good point.

I took it as implied.
