AFL Player #16: Archie Perkins - Re-signed for two more years - 3/6

Hope you are right but I have never seen the outright physicality in Archie's game that is in Jack's game.
Archie tends to be a bit more x factor move rather than just brute force. Not that it is a bad trait to be a bit more X factor.
Yeh i see Isaac Heeney as in player comparison

On that note id love to see him used 1 out in the goal square at times next year just to see how he goes in that role. Not sure if he has the aerial ability or spring like Heeney does, but Heeneys elite in both arras there

How is Archie looking in pre season?
Every training report I’ve seen has him as a standout all pre season, but has been in the modified group for a couple weeks now. Minor injury?

My hope is that he listened every time Parish mentioned he'd worked on his fitness and running capacity, and has done the same. Archie should be a beneficiary of what's looking like becoming a stacked midfield. More focus on Parish, Merrett, Stringer, Shiel should give him plenty of space to run.

I think hes going to be required forward especially if Tippa is managed early in the year

He atleast looks like he has the ability to hit the scoreboard wheras a Guelfi naybe vying for a small forward spot doesnt quite have the same goal kicking nous

He came what 2nd in the time trial. I doubt Parish has ever done that. His fittnest is fine and of the elite end. He will become elite when he gets time up the ground or out of the goal square in positions where the ball is targetted more often

We really need to get some intoruction to the wing for his game in 2022 but we will need Tippa playing for that to be a chance i feel

He already came in with a far stronger aerobic base than parish.

Said ot before and will say it again.

Kid is going to be an out and out star.
He has some serious tools

Height, agility, endurance, showed he can kick a goal, overhead ability.

The thing hes never shown yet is his ability to win large amount of pill ie 25 disposals

He has similar tools to Heeney which id be fine with just doenst have the aerial and goal kicking 1v1 winning ability upt thst level yet which is elite

My favourite part of his game is how willing he is to just get back into the contest and how well he can ride a tackle. He can easily get clean hands away even with one or two blokes hanging off his dick. I doubt we'll see him get pinged for HTB much over his career.

Definitely think he'll play more forward-mid than mid-forward. I already like what I see from Archie more than I did Zaka. Needs to nail those running goals though.
Re: his fitness base, I dunno. I thought he looked gassed at the end of last season.

I think there's a difference between raw aerobic capacity as measured in time trials and such, and match conditioning across a season.

Cox has arguably the best engine of anyone at the club, yet looked pretty spent come the end of the year.

At least with both Cox and Perkins you know the conditioning will come given their aerobic capacity was at AFL standard when they were drafted, whereas someone like Francis always had to play catch-up.

Yeh well said owen87 the time trial is a once off and your not being tackled to the ground and bumped and having ankle sprains at every 50m mark along the way

Also they wernt use to football thats why i thought kids would be eased more. Not many ran out the season well.

Powell fell over
Cox collapsed
Perkins collapsed
B.Campbell broke
Gulden ran out of steam

All were favs or up there at some stage earlier in the year

The top 4 ended up being 2nd and 3rd year players

Well you’d think that 2nd and 3rd year players would be much more conditioned than covid affected 1st years, same thing will happen again this year with the rising star. Hollands or campbell my tip to take it out.

Campbell not a bad bet if ya get odds just think Daicos gets it by his name and pies play him at every opportunity. He just racks up and is being given a very cushy role across back half/mid

Ward aswell the other one. JHF #1 pick the obvious but hard if roos dont fire and injuries to Cunnington and no jab Anderson, Tarrant leaving doesnt help

Your answer just contradicted your statement about what happened to the fresh draftees last year 😂. Daicos will get every opportunity but he ain’t going to be able to play the way he did in underage footy and it’s a big step up to play a full season of afl after playing on 10 games of elite junior footy in 2 years. There’s plenty of 2nd or 3rd year highly rated players who haven’t played 10 yet who still qualify for rising star.
North will be far from the worst team this year, have a few players that are ready to explode and become elite players of the comp (simpkin, zurhaar, ldu, larkey and the most talented kid on their list Thomas)

My statement was that the fresh draftees tired as the season went on

Ive no doubt that this will happen to Daicos but players can be managed

Id also say hes far more ready made than any of the players i named

Absolutely loved his game today. Started a little slow but with a recent injury can't blame him getting warmed up. But second quarter onwards. Wow.

You can't tackle him, he always gets the ball out. As good as our midfield is, it lacks the pure physically gifted that can match it with Petracca, Bontempelli, Oliver type guys. He is the chosen one to reach those heights. He will bring balance to the force.
