It’s not just another job, it’s a select elite competition where it’s more a privilege to play in. The rules of that comp clearly state when you apply for the draft that you can be picked by any team. If you don’t want to comply you find a real job

The only thing I’d say to that is, is if you put your name down for the draft you’re accepting that you will be available to play for any of the 18 clubs.

If a job ad said good chance you would be working interstate then you wouldn’t apply if you didn’t want to go

That is true, but in a job interview certain working conditions will be discussed and that is what i am referring too.

With how the draft turned out, i suspect he would not have been taken earlier.

Again it’s an elite sporting competition where you get invited (drafted) to play. In the interests of a fair and competitive competition you can apply to be drafted but on the condition of being picked by any club. Hence why you have draft tampering rules.

And again I don’t see what’s wrong with him replying to that question honestly. That’s not tampering. If he got picked by an interstate club I’m sure he would have gone but good chance he would never re-sign. Maybe the AFL needs to revisit their rookie rules.
