Reckon some of us are being way too harsh on this kid. Playing that high half forward role, that is not only one of the tougher positions, but thankless at times as well.
Yes, still a lot of room to improve for the kid but I actually think he's been pretty good in most games this year
Got a lot of coaches votes round one this year.

Some players take longer to reach that next level. We just have to be patient. Could be our best player in a few years.

Against the hawks in a 10 goal win

He shows signs, but im not sure what hes going to be. Love seeing the shake of the hips and standup or break some solid tackles and then booming kicks 55m for goal

I dont see the midfielder and hes clearly not showing enough to be in there

The only thing is weve seen these big mids/fwds take time

Degoey took 6 years
Petracca 6 years
Rayner still hasnt cut it

No point comparing him to Sheezel whos playing half back. Rachelle whos physcially as ready made as Hobbs at the start and 180cm tall as is Soligo. These 180cm guys picked early should be having more impact early

Owens maybe fair, but is he just an absolute freak? And a more natural forward?

He just looks so casual out there, and not in a good way. No real manic desire to affect the play unless he has the ball.

He's talented but at times it looks like he thinks he's playing in the park with his mates over a Sunday bbq.
Seems to have a bit of the early Langford laconic about him.

I am all for patient . Just think he has not progressed a lot further than where he was in his first year. He was always going to take longer as he came from a draft that played minimal under 18 footy. None of the top 10 from his draft have really been ripping it up week in and week out. Most have shown flashed of very good amongst some inconsistent footy. Archie has played the most of any of the top 10 in his draft year. 50 games up next time out. He has to be showing a bit more consistent footy over 4 quarters. He has the tools . Just has to be progressing through the levels.

Statistically actually he's improved year on year in a pretty linear fashion. He gets more ball, though the improvement is mostly in uncontested possessions, kicks inside 50 more, kicks more goals, his kicking efficiency and kicking effectiveness are also better. His marking is the only thing to really go backwards.

Over his career so far he's been statistically average for a forward in the key stats, but this year is above average in most of them (that's comparing all forwards from the entire league to determine averages, with above average being in the top 3rd but not the top 10%).

What I would suggest based on that is that he's working on a few things skill wise, like his kicking and getting into good positions as part of the chain so that he has time to kick properly and isn't rushed.

He's also using his weapons further up the ground and is not taking as many marks because he's not in those positions where he'd be getting on the end of it. Instead he's the one winning it or receiving it further up the wing and trying to kick inside 50, likely as part of a chain originating in D50.

Given we have contested and uncontested possessions, I'd really like to see contested and uncontested disposals broken down as well.

Reckon he’s tracking fine. Has the scope to be a 2 goal 20 possession weapon. Just don’t think he’s a 30 touch a game type accumulator (which Tsatas and Hobbs probs will be)

yeah. ive come around on not playing him in the middle.
HF/Wing and do similar stuff to Martin where he can get in when needed, but the key is work to the outside, play big there and be a presence from HB to HF/pocket

Hobbs, Tsatas, Caldwell complimenting Shiel, Setterfield, Merrett and Parish feels enough for me

As Lore said, he's improved pretty much across the board each year, just incrementally rather than a big jump.

He's a lot stronger on his feet than you'd think, quite often he can hold his feet through a tackle and either get the ball clear or run out of it once the tackler slips.

Looks a bit like a player that doesn't quite know what they can do yet, once he realises his strength and looks to use it I think we'll see him take a bigger jump.

Yeah I dunno lol he didn't really get any grip and Arch saw him coming and had time to shift his body weight as well.

Don't get me wrong though it's great he didn't fall over.
it definitely is a great quality Perks has though, whenever he or stringer have the ball you just know they will evade the first tackle. With Stringer its through brute strength but with Perks i think its a good centre of gravity and strong hips/thighs.

Tracking to be the next Will Hayward, I want to see more from him.

It’s a good point someone made about bigger/explosive type mid/forwards like TRACC taking a while to break out. It will take a while for his strength/power to build, he could really explode when it does. I think he’s tracking along nicely. He could definitely be the type of player that’s given licence to just attack, he has the skills to be very damaging, when he comes along more so defensive stuff may be less important. I’m pretty excited about him.
