India is going to miss Pujara this series and probably is why India cant win the series.

The last 4 series, but in particular the last 2 in Oz , he has just been a brick wall to the Aussie quicks which means it takes the pressure off his more flamboyant teammates.

He took over from that other wall Dravid, but not as quicker scoring as Dravid.

If he was here today, India probably is 2 for 40 at lunch and he has faced 16 or 17 of the 25 overs Oz bowlers have bowled this morning, for about 20 runs.

Rahul wasnt playing his natural game today and I reckon over the series that will wear him down.
Rahul has played his fair share of dour innings in test cricket. He didn't really develop an expansive game till he started playing white ball more later in his career

England debuted 11 players in the 1990s who played 50 tests and 30 who played 5 or fewer. They put our ordinary XIs for years and turned over players like nobody's business. Even now they have a lot more test players than we do. We'll pick anyone to have a go at white ball cricket but generally we don't hand out test caps so quickly. This Summer's discussion was who would replace Warner who retired. With Cam Green injured it was known months in advance who 10 of the 11 would be today.

In the same era we had Stuart Law, Michael Bevan, Matthew Hayden etc. who either couldn't get into the test team or were fringe selections. Haydos the nuffy that he is played 96 tests from 2000-2009 and 7 from 1994-1999. Even someone like Mike Hussey played 79 tests from age 30 to 37 because the side was that hard to get into for so long. Meanwhile England were picking the Hollioakes (RIP Ben) who were about as English as I am and as close to test standard.

Excellent bowling but India from the start have been too timid. They haven't rotated the strike nor scored off the bad balls. They also haven't committed on the front nor back foot. Feet have been stuck at the crease. Disappointing.

They need to be more proactive.
