Sam Reid

Sam Reid’s outstanding athleticism and strong contested grab make him a genuine threat inside 50. The 2012 premiership forward showed exactly that when he booted six goals in the Sydney Swans’ clash with Collingwood in Mark Grook at the SCG to win the 2019 Goodes-O’Loughlin Medal. The 2009 draftee can also play as a loose man in defence or pinch-hit in the ruck. Reid has had very little luck on the injury front in his time in red and white, but he didn’t miss an AFL match in 2019. He’s played 143 career games at the top level for a return of 154 goals.

Can we please change the title back to Sam Reid?

Just because Darcy had a shocker is no reason to disrespect Sam after a really great effort in the teams time of real need...

He stood up and was counted, put his body on the line countless times (even knowing from a significant amount of experience how frail it is), and without him, we lose this game...

Instead of celebrating how crucial he was, and what a terrific game he had, we focus on Darcy's shit calling...

He was great in defence and up forward!!

Hence he was Sam and Ben all in one last night!

Title is appropriate

I don't believe that idiot Darcy got his name right once tonight!
That's disgraceful, he's supposed to be a professional - once you can overlook, twice okay, but any more than that means he is just not capable of doing his job.

the vic-centric media don't care about such things ... in the same way they wouldn't give a toss that the swans had taken the lead about two minutes before that egoist show pony hamish mcdonald called us doing so late in the first half

I get that its just my opinion...

But no, it's not... He wasn't Ben, isn't Ben... Ben never played for the Swans at all.

It's just disrespect... in the guise of trying to be amusing

Was just an easy joke that may have gotten a chuckle or two after a good win. No disrespect intended, not towards Reid anyway.

I will change it back, it wasn't going to stick around for very long anyway.

Thank you! I appreciate it...

I probably overreacted, but he cops so much shit, and he always gives everything he's got...

Just watching the game now and that commentary was disgraceful and actually making me mad the more I heard it. He called him Ben every single time and not one of the other commentators pulled him up on it?

I really hate the Victorian footy media. They’re thick as bricks.

What have you got against bricks. They are very useful. Unlike some commentators. :D

Absolutely love the fight Sam has showed this season. Have to respect the man.

I like many others have been critical of him and probably rightly so, running under the ball, poor goal kicking accuracy, general fumbling - poor skill execution and of course the constant injuries plaguing his career leaving an overall feeling of him being a "nearly" player causing me to be non fussed about him closing out his career in the vfl.

This season particularly last week Sam has shown he has other idea's and that he won't go quietly into the football wilderness.
I have noticed a difference in his attitude, he has looked like a man who has a bit of "F you I belong and have plenty left to give" kind of mongrel in him. He looks desperate to win and determined to keep his spot, a preparedness to do whatever it takes. A small sample size but a little LRT vibe about what he is doing.

I really hope he stays fit, continues to execute his skills and finishes out his career (whenever that might be 30 isn't old) with respect from the faithful without any whipping boy tag.
