Re: redo the 2003 draft now that we have seen them

1. Cooney
2. Stanton
3. Rischitelli
4. Mundy
5. Walker
6. Fisher
7. Waters
8. Adcock
9. Tuck
10. Sylvia

Heath Shaw would come in at number 3 if he wasn't a F/S. I'd expect Stanton to take over at number 1 but pre injury Cooney still gets him the nod for now.

Sylvia makes the top 10? My God, that was a bad draft.

A bit of thread necro but watching Mundy's start to 2018 and jeez he has to be getting close to top of a revised 2003 draft. Cooney probably still takes it, his best was better but from memory injury really hurt the second half of his career and taking into account how long Mundy is maintaining a high level, he has to be top 3 at least.

Hard to believe he was drafted way back at the same time as Ryan Murphy and Brett Peake.

I would take him at 1. Cooney didnt play a high level for long enough due to imjury.

Mundy is a warrior.

Interesting
7 players ended up playing for freo (Mundy, Johnson, Dawson, Duffield, peake, Sylvia and Kepler)
Port
Tigers did really well too with 4 (Jackson, foley, tuck and Chaplin)
Port 4 (surjan, Mahoney, Chaplin and Logan)

shows why fremantle were shocking during this period

Not only would i take Waters over Sam Butler, i would take him over the top 4.

Fair call I was trying to factor in games played. Waters was a star and all Australian. He and Nathan foley were a graders that never got a fair run with it. Butler ended up with over 200 games and the flag and was a lock for over a decade.
1. Waters was also a premiership player (26 touches and 10 marks from a 20 year old)/
2. Butler was as injury prone as him
3.Butler was never a lock for over a decade (well not consistently)
4. Butler only play 166.

Waters was a great player, and would have been a star had injury been kind. In the end, he only played 120 games, and given you're looking at this draft retrospectively he has to rank behind Mundy, Shaw, Cooney and Fisher. He'd probably have been the second best of the lot behind Shaw, if he'd been able to play 200.

Funny reading the posts on this draft.
David Mundy not even mentioned in the top 20 back in 2010.
Now the clear number one in the draft in hindsight, and by the end of this season will be in the top 10 most appearances in VFL/AFL history, in the company of some hall of fame legends.
One of the best ball users by foot to every play inside mid in the AFL.

Worst draft of all-time? The only one in the modern era that might compare is 2012 and that at least has some genuine top-liners.

Comically bad draft. Is that Andrew Walker and Troy Chaplin rounding out the top 10? F*** me drunk

Got my vote for worst. That top 20 is awful.

Did children around the country just all give up footy in 2003? That is a diabolical top 20.
While this is glaring I think the 2002 and 2004 drafts aren't that great either (though definitely better), so I think there had to be a development hole for certain clubs in the mid-2000's.

Either that or they plain got too cute about recruiting.

You’ve done a number on Aaron Davey there, was a genuine gun. Probably didn’t do it for long enough but I’d take 180 games from him over any number from Stanton, Rischitelli, Chaplin and Adcock who were all role players at best.

Jeez I would take Mundy and Johnson top two if this draft was done today

alright probably gotta put Shaw at 2 and Johnson at 3

Cooney gets 4th but jeez there isn't much here

Freo somehow did really well out of a shocker of a draft

Mundy is clearly number 1 though atleast the peak of the draft has a great
