Re: 2009 All-Australian Team (Part 2)

For those that doubted the 2 year rule I would love to see them post again now and explaining the omissions of Gilbert and Clark and to lesser degree LeCras. People that doubt it now after all these years and again this year are living in denial.

My main issue is with half backline, no problem with Maxwell in side but should have been at CHB instead of Bolton, having Maxwell and Goodwin on ground and Goddard on bench is laughable.

Agree with all of that.

The Victorian conspiracy folk are doing themselves no favours. Clark missed out due to the 2-year rule, as did Gilbert. Brown missed out to Judd because it's Judd.

Re: 2009 All-Australian Team (Part 2)

Not too unhappy with the team. LeCras and Porps unlucky but theres always going to be good players to miss out.

Sandilands tapping to Judd and Ablett would just be unstoppable.

How can Maxwell possibly be CBH when he didn't actually have an opponent for the entire 22 rounds.

Re: 2009 All-Australian Team (Part 2)

People who question Davis, he was third highest forward for average SC points per game.

(111 per game)

Porp 87 and LeCras 84. Its not always how many goal you kick.
I must admit, that made me chuckle...

Re: 2009 All-Australian Team (Part 2)

Judd getting the Vice-Captaincy ahead of Brown is just utterly bewildering. Brown was overwhelming choice as best captain by the AFLPA... but the selectors know better than the players right. :thumbsu:

The icing on the cake of what was one massive Victorian circle jerk.

You seem to take this whole thing too seriously.

Speaking of the AFLPA, Swan was voted as the number 2 player in the game this year, yet people still complain about his selection.

According to this thread, Swan, Davis and Maxwell are by far the worst selections. LOL

Re: 2009 All-Australian Team (Part 2)

Lets face it, most people have short memories, 95% of bigfooty users wouldn't remember a thing that happened before round 18. Davis was brilliant the first 2/3 of the year, they were talking brownlow smokey at one point. He didn't finish the season greatly, but he didn't need to, his first 15 or so games were so good he had the spot locked up.

Le Cras would have been a good chance as well, but i never even for a second considered porps, didn't think he would be close. If kicking 50 goals is all you need to make the AA team then we'd have 10 forwards in every year.

Kind of the same with Mitch Clark as well, his last 2 months were brilliant, but before then Sandilands, H-Mac and Jolly were the ones people raving about. Yeah he finished with a great rush, but he was just probably too far behind.

nobody
disagrees with swans selection in the team, but he's not a forward, he should be in the midfield

Re: 2009 All-Australian Team (Part 2)

What about a team for the unlucky players not to make the AA Team 2009?

B: Fisher (St K) Prestigiacomo (Coll) Fletcher (Ess)
HB: Gilbert (St K) Hargrave (WB) Mackie (Geel)
C: Pendlebury (Coll) Black (Bris) Vince (Adel)
HF: Didak (Coll) Pavlich (Frem) Porplyzia (Ade)
F: Milne (St K) Franklin (Haw) LeCras (WCE)
R: Clark (Bris) Watson (Ess) Murphy (Carl)

Int: Ryder (Ess) Johnson (Geel) Bartel (Geel) Akermanis (WB)

Re: 2009 All-Australian Team (Part 2)

Yet he only finishes 5th in the Swans B&F
Never look at the our B & F award seriously. The voting is weird. Craig Bolton didn't even finish in the top 10. Goodes has been underrated by Roos and the coaching staff ever since 2003. Clearly our best player this year and arguably a top 10 player in the competition.

People aren't complaining about Swan's selection in the team - rather that the selectors screwed up by putting him in the forward line. Swan's had a great year and it would've been the biggest farce if he wasn't in the team.

Davis is a bit of a fringe selection IMO. I thought Porplyzia and Le Cras could have taken his spot.

No O'Keefe? No Jolly?

Re: 2009 All-Australian Team (Part 2)

IMO should have been

B: Lake - Scarlett - Enright
HB: Goddard - Bolton - Gilbert
C: Swan - Hayes - Montagna
HF: Chapman - Riewoldt - Goodes
F: Lecras - Fevola - Brown
R: Sandilands - Ablett - Judd
I/C: Clark - Selwood - Dal Santo - Porplyzia

Re: 2009 All-Australian Team (Part 2)

who wants to make an All Australian - A- team. lol
Not based on the squad.

B: Sam Gilbert - Simon Prestigiacomo - Dale Morris
HB: Ryan Hargrave - Sam Fisher - Josh Drummond
C: Marc Murphy - Simon Black - Brad Sewell
HF: Alan Didak - Lance Franklin - Steve Johnson
F: Jason Porplyzia - Mark LeCras - Jason Akermanis
R: Mitch Clark - Jobe Watson - Sam Mitchell
INT: Darren Jolly - Scott Pendlebury - Bernie Vince - Ryan O'Keefe

Small forward line but LeCras can hold down FF.

Bolton hasn't even your best defender in 09.
