2009 Trade Discussion - Part 5

I have Picken in my side as my 8th midfielder(well, when everyone is playing). Also have Beams, Robinson and Rich as my other mid rookies. Picken's BE is 77 which is well above his average of 55. Last 2 games has scored in the 30's, but prior to that he had 2 80's. Worth keeping him and hope to get more cash, or has he just about peaked? Would look to bring in Cockie if I ditched him. Frees up $122k

Thoughts?

St. Johnson for Higgins - I got no forwards that can play if Higgins doesn't
or
T. Lockyer for Hodge - Hodge is 2-4 weeks, not in great form so if i traded him I could get him later assuming he goes down a bit....but I have Broughton who can play yet I'd have a zero for this week. Consider the fact I got Grimes and Suban already starting, add Broughton to the mix and yeah aint the strongest backlines.

Big help needed with that please really appreciate it as well.
Didn't get any replies :)

as for that j2kboiz guy, I think Enright/Fisher at good prices to get and will be on the rise soon might be time to get.

IMO the 2 guys you have named are keepers is there a forward rookie that isn't playing you could swap to either Sidebottom or Yarran?

If you have to do 1 of those trades, do Hodge. Sounds like a nasty injury that could see him out for longer than reported.

Thanks mate I appreciate the reply, and yeah I was thinking a bit about trading Sidebottom in for Garlett so should I do that do you think? That way I could probably trade Hodgey next week if the injury doesn't look any better, I have Higgins back if he doesn't play and I am left with a sub for my forward line. It's probably sacrificing some points by using Broughton instead of Lockyer or Fisher (30-50 id say), but leaving me with cover if Higgins didn't play. Based on what I said there, is the Sidebottom idea looking a bit more promising.

Higgins not playing - no forward backup - DONUT
Higgins not play - Sidebottom - 60points
Lockyer for Hodge -100 points but no Higgins 100 + 0
Broughton + Sidebottom = 120 points + Forward line back up.
Lockyer for Hodge 100 + Higgins plays 90 = 190 (chance of not happening)

I guess that's a way of looking at it. I already used 1 trade as well of course.

Someone on the bullies board said if Higgins plays, Picken is the one to go out. Cockie will average about 55-60 i'd say, Picken seems a decent prospect but I am not sure if he would average anymore than like 60-65....122k is pretty good if you need that money to spend somewhere else. Then again it depends on how many trades you have left etc. I'd say go for it if you want.

IMO Garlett will struggle to get named again this year, so that probably is your best option.

It might be worth keeping Higgins on the field and naming Sidebottom as emergency. Higgins is named as emergency this week, if he really is injured then he wouldn't be named as emergency for the game, so bulldog's could be playing games here

Made a few changes,

Pretty happy with what I have

Well I don't need the money this week as I've actually got cover in my backline with Cheney and Broughton coming in :) Will have to deal with Higgins as donut, and it'll be a bonus if he's back in!

However, everytime when there is a player who I could upgrade, I never seem to have the money to trade with. As an 8th mid, surely Cockie would be alright.

Already done Rich>>Murphy this week but need some thoughts from ppl on this...

My planned trades next week are Petrenko>>Broughton and Brown>>Sidebottom, with the idea that Suban>>Fisher would happen coming in to Rd 11 (because his price will drop according to FFGenie's predictions).

But do you think it would be a good idea to bring forward the Petrenko>>Broughton trade this week to fascilitate the Suban>>Fisher trade next week??

fisher could easily move up in value in the next few weeks...
next week would be the latest you would to get him i reckon..especially if he starts getting consistent 90s and 100s

Boy was I glad Houlihan didn't get picked this week!

When Mitch Brown was a late ommission last week, I would be facing 2 donuts in my team with Bock and Brown/Houlihan out. So in a mad rush at 6:30pm, chugging down a beer, I thought, "ah f**k it, I'll get rid of Houlihan for Roo or SJ" Thought I'd go the conservative approach and get SJ so I had the extra money. Well, SJ went a long way to helping me win 3 league games and eliminator match.

Now it looks like a lot of people are getting rid of Houlihan for SJ. I'm just glad I took the risk and did it a week early... perfect week for SJ to pull out the highest score of the round :)

Ive bitten the bullet and made the following trades:

Zeibell > Sidebottom
Skipworth > SJ

I know Zeibell has more to rise, but it is going to be the difference in a league win, after being 1-3 i need it. Still have 14 trades and has freed up $75k for next week, when i plan going Otten > Rookie, Rich Murphy / Swan / Corey.

So glad Cheney, Broughton and Petrenko are named, and also hoping that Houlihan gets named to come back in next week.

Have also held on to Hodge on the pine, cant justify offloading him, whether its the fact i paid $420,000, or the fact that i think he could be back in 2 i dont know at this stage, but aslong as Pertenko keeps racking up the big numbers i should be fine...

I've still got Skippy and Houlihan. (Also have Ziebell, Didak, Higgins), so looking at quite a few donuts.

Which one of Skippy or Houlihan would you upgrade?

Skippy is likely to play VFL this week.

And who to upgrade to? Thinking out of J Brown, Riewoldt, Pavlich (Already have SJ and Lids)

I just have a few questions as a first time DT'er:

1
Is a trade like:
Suban > grimes (Similar price)
Sideways?

Grimes will gain you a lot of money IEO. Maybe even more than Broughton ect. (with the added bonus of better cover).

2
This talk about trading up your cash cows to 'keepers' is very confusing. Is it worth trading up someone like Ziebell (only to someone who gets dropped or injured I bet).

3
Are there any players that are expected to do better in the latter half of the year (the important time for league finals)? I'm guessing the premium players in the bottom 4 of the top 8 are a good target?

1. Yes. i see that as sideways. if you do Suban -> Grimes, you will just probably end up doing Grimes -> Premium later in the season. which seems better? be patient and do Suban -> Premium (1 trade), or, Suban -> Grimes -> Premium (2 trades)

2.Yes. no one is expecting Ziebell to be 1 of the highest scoring players in the forwards. the term "keeper" refers to the higher scoring players who simply don't require an upgrade. you should be aiming to get someone who averages 90+

3. Yes, but it's always hard to pick them. i like to target players who seem below their normal average - and are in need of correctionalism. i also like to ignore player with inflated averages who seem destined for some ironing out.

Which option is better?

Lucas -> Sidebottom
Otten -> Dal Santo

or

Krakouer -> Sidebottom
Otten -> Dal Santo

I'd get a zero if I trade Krakouer. Only reason I'm considering this, is because I think Lucas will increase more in value than what Krakouer will.

Recreational league, so I could cop a zero and still win or go close to it.

Only if he gets another game
