I'm going to do a multi with 5 group winners.
England @ 1.30
Italy @ 1.45
Holland @ 1.50
Spain @ 1.22
Germany @ 1.70**
= $5.86. Will probably put $100.

Still not sure if I will put Germany as the 5th or go with Brazil.
Last world cup 7 of the favourites topped their group.

Once Australia are knocked out Im going to lose so much interest in the World Cup.

Not good signs last night with a 3-1 loss to USA.

Im going to get on NO hat-trick for the whole world cup @ $3.50 :thumbsu:

Not a bad shout at all. Who's offering that bet?

For a guy who is so ridiculously crap at punting, you shouldn't be so frigging critical of others. USA are far from useless, and are a great trading option.

I know some pretty smart punters who are backing USA to beat Eng, these guys know their stuff & i would be surprised if USA are no good at this tournament from what i've heard.

Netherlands is my main team this time around.

2) you havent seen italy. they have done it a few times.

and what hes meaning is we sit very very deep in our half.
In the situation of an opening World Cup game, no team will throw everyone behind the ball.

Of course we'll sit deep and try to counter, but we won't just throw everyone back there and play for a 0-0 draw.

If that's how we play, my first point stands, where is the risk in backing Germany to win to nil?

theres no risk. germany will beat us 1/2 - 0

The only world cup so far to not have a hat-trick was the last one. Not a good bet IMO.

the game has changed a little in the way of formations, etc. doubt we will see a hattrick, if we do it will be because someone has a double and theres a penalty. :thumbsu:

I know North Korea were pretty good defensively in the qualifying but I suspect away from Pyongyang and against genuine opponents they have a big chance to combust like Saudi Arabia in that game against Germany a few cups ago.

Spain's group looks relatively weak as well.

I wouldn't be taking those odds.

there are some terrible teams at this world cup. there'll be some beltings, and at least one hat-trick.

Okay people...top goal scorers for each team.

Argentina: To be honest not sure what formation they are playing/will play but hard to go past Leo Messi, is at $2.62. Possibly Higuain at $3.25?

Netherlands: Van Persie seems the goods at $2.40.

England: Obviously Rooney good chance but will he produce? Is at $2.35

Brazil: Robinho could be value at $5 but Luis Fabiano is class.

Spain: As most people would, I like Villa. Is at $2.25

I realise I have selected mostly favorites. Because of this I feel surely it wont be that simple so does anyone see good value in other players leading the goalscoring?

Have had a look at the Top Goal Scores for each Country.

I've got:
Lionel Messi - Argentina $2.50
Robin Van Persie - Netherlands $2.50
Christiano Ronaldo - Portugal $2.25
David Villa - Spain $2.38
= $33.47

Pretty good odds IMO.
Thoughts?

- I am a little worried about Torres challenging Villa (so will defiantly take a hedge bet)
- I would go with Rooney but he's just too risky for $2.38 with players such as Crouch/Gerrard/Lampard in the team
- I Like Anelka for France @ $3.40, but Henry is a risk @ $4.50.
- Brazil have a host of players that could get it, Kaka/Fabiano/Robihno/Nilmar

Been doing a bit of research and found an article on goal scores for the WC:

http://www.fifa.com/worldcup/news/newsid=1231154/index.html#goalscorers+gunning+glory

Few interesting notes in there, might change who I jump on...

'Fabiano doesn't think Messi will be the man taking home precious metal footwear, however, despite his 34 goals for Barcelona. "He is ruthless with Barcelona, but he becomes more timid with Argentina," the Brazilian said in a recent interview with Italian media'

___

'Nicolas Anelka is coming off a strong season with Chelsea but has never been prolific in the national shirt'

And you have Messi a sure thing with the likes of Higuain, Milito, Tevez and Palermo all capable of blasting outside the box.

I wouldnt touch Messi or Ronaldo.

Lock in Vanpersie and Fabiano, Villa a vgood chance and Rooney to add more value.

I found this pretty interesting...

Altitude Factor

http://www.newscientist.com/article/mg20627635.800-feeling-the-pressure-the-world-cups-altitude-factor.html?page=1

The key message for the World Cup, then, is that teams need to take into account transition, acclimatisation and tactics. Players will need to adapt to changes in altitude, especially the effect this has on the flight of the ball. Teams that use high altitude to their advantage - or that are already used to switching from low to high altitude - will profit. That points to a win for a South American team.

I like the goalscorer and South Korea bets alot, taken similar myself. I think Holland, Brazil and Argentina are all safer to win their groups than England. I like Uruaguy to qualify.

Who do we like best to top their groups?
I'm very keen on Spain and Argentina.
After that I'm having some trouble seperating England, Holland, Italy and Brazil. Was very keen on Holland but the Robben news is a little worrying.
