2011 Ladder Predictions - Part 2

I had tried so hard to not comment on the placing of Sydney on people's ladders and just when I decide to go in, young Indie beats me to the punch.

Not singling you out here but if I had a dollar for everytime time this type of comment was made and proven wrong...

Hence my point about Sydeney in my ladder prediction summation! :)

No wonder North supporters are voted the most bias on this forum. If anyone predicts they will go south down the ladder you have no credibility according to them

I'm am not going to claim to be unbiased, because we are all biased, though many believe Hawthorn are overrated, and i believe this has been true over the past 2 years, I believe that this year with the added experiencd of Bruce and a fit Burgoyne we should go VERY close at winning the flag, and anything less than top 4 would be a disappointment.

Oh my god what is it with north supporters on this forum and whinging and carrying on if someone puts them below like 1st?
Stop throwing a hissy fit- if someone puts you where they have just suck it up and move on, listing your top 592027 players and why you'll beat <insert offending Posters team here> in round <whatever> and being so positive you'll make bets on it isn't what people want to see when they open a ladder prediction thread, by all means have an opinion to some degree but stop forcing your own clearly biased opinion on others- don't want to hear it.

End rant.

Allright then, why not. If only so I can look back and see how wrong I was...

I haven't put Hawthorn higher than 3rd in the last few years, even after 08. I am generally fairly pessimistic about their chances but I am very confident they will click together this year and finish top. Pre season is finally relatively trouble free and we have recruited for needs. Not sure they'll take the flag though...

Hawthorn - Having a relatively smooth pre-season, will be up for it
Collingwood - Will probably go on and win flag, consistent across the 22
Dogs - Will be better but unfortunately another Prelim loss awaits
Adelaide - Shocking pre-season last year, will be the bolters
Freo - Quality and a good home record will get them a home final
St Kilda - Sliding slightly and a little older but still with a lot of quality
Geelong - As with Saints
Melbourne - I think they will sneak in purely on their amazing draw
------
Sydney - I may of underrated them once again, always do.
Carlton - Massively over rated team
Port - Dont care and dont know enough about them
North Melbourne - Understand the confidence with some of their talent, but their pre-season has scuppered 2011 for them. Like Adelaide of last year, will bolt in 2012
Richmond - Slowly improving. Slowly
West Coast - Shit
Gold Coast - Gazza and the talented kids might just sneak a couple of unexpected wins
Essendon - Also shit
Brisbane - Voss will not last the season

I love these threads. The last couple of years have been full of "Carlton is massively overrated" and then we exceed expectations. Of course we are bound to fall behind (insert flavour of month team here) this year and we rely completley on Judd to win.

2009: Won't make finals, too many duds (7th)
2010: Fev loss is too great will fall out of the eight, quite often into bottom four (8th)

If anything the facts prove we are under-rated and that calling us over-rated only further excarebates this. Hilarious really. Not predicted a big jump this year, though outside of a home final and Ratten is probably gone (Common feeling on the Carlton board)

^^^^
Over rated by the press and the Carlton suporters, not by BigFooty posters.

I think Carlton are a middle of the road side, have been for the last 2 years and will be this year. Not enopugh talent in players 12-22.

The only diefference between this year and the last couple is that there are a few more sides who will overtake them thats all.

1. Collingwood- Of the continue to improve on last years efforts they could go through the season unbeaten.

2. Geelong- Selwood and Jimmy to step up in the absence of Ablett. Still had quality all across the board and will be there abouts again in 2011.

3. Hawks- If Stratton or Shoenmakers can make CHB there position they will go deep into september. Hodgey and Mitchell will be keen to take them back to great heights.

4. Bulldogs- If higgins can get fit he makes them a 3-4 goal better side. If sherman can return to his best he will make a fair bit of difference to this side. Hopefully age doesn't catch up with Hall and he has the same impact as last season.

5. Saints- Ageing list and the bottom 5 players are as good as the teams above them. Off season scandel bound to have an impact on the players IMO. I dont see where the improvement is going to come from for them to take the next step

6. Freo- I would have had them top 4 but the serious knee injury to Marobito has set them back a bit. I think after a full preseason he would've torn games apart similar to Hill this year. Alot of responsibility still stands on the shoulders of Pav and Sandilands.

7. Adelaide- Will be up and about this year. Vince, Reilly, Mackay, Van berlo back to full fitness. Otten and Sloane will be massive inclusions. Back half is still solid and if Tippet and Walker can step up then they could go further.

8. North- Spine looks alot more settled this year with Petrie back in the side. Add Anthony and Ziebell, and we will be a 4-5 goal better side. Leigh Adams, Jaime McMillan and Greenwood to take the next step in the midfield.

9. Sydney- Could finish anywhere. Bradshaw at Full fitness makes a big difference. Would love to see them give the top four a shake up but with a new coach and new game plan i cant see it happening. Kieran Jack to continue his rapaid rise

10. Melbourne - Rock solid backline. Honestly think the loss of Bruce will hurt in the expirence and leadership. Definately be around the 8 mark.

11. Carlton - Just dont see it. Have a good midfield but it lacks a bit of depth and a bit of grunt. If Brock McLean comes good i can see them finishing as high a 4th. But with their small forward line I see them getting torn apart this year.

12. Richmond - Very young spine. Jack will be a superstar, but lacks support. Will be in the 8 come 2012.

13. Port - Cant really comment. Would love to see Butcher, Moore, McMillan-Pittard and Banner up and about this year. Will surprise a few teams but will get upset too.

14. Brisbane- Black and Browny to single handly win them a few games.

15. West Coast- young and inexpirenced.

16. GC - Too young. Ablett to have 5 players hanging off him every game.

17. Essendon - enough said.

I'm fine for this to continue. It just makes for fine schadenfreude which is never a bad thing :thumbsu:

You may be right or wrong on the prediction; but putting that much improvement down to adding a 31yo Cameron Bruce would have to be one of the more optimistic posts I've read this off-season.

Massively over-rated team? Not on BF - can't remember anyone last year giving us a chance to make the eight. I expect we'll win five more games this year than we did last year - young team has only got better and there is good depth there now: look out in 2011!

Yep, this is the thread I come to for a laugh...

A supposedly harmless thread aimed at a bit of crystal ball guess work (cant possibly be any science or expertise to it given that there at least 850 variables likely to affect the outcome ) and the grief and outrage against others' opinions gives me so many lolz...

I have it on inkling that in fact all 17 clubs actually make a few changes to their sides in the off season.

For what its worth :
1.Bulldogs
2.Geelong
3.Fremantle
4. Collingwood
5. Carlton
6. Hawthorn
7. St Kilda

9. Sydney

I like this one alot. except I would swap Carlton and Melbourne and again Carlton and Adelaide. While Adelaide will massively improve, I just sense the stars might be aligning for Carltank, which makes me vomit in my moth a bit. After cellar dwelling for so long and rebuilding, it is natural that those that have been in the system 3-4 years should be starting to lift the club higher.

Melbourne will improve hugely but will not be playing finals just yet I don't think. Expect them to go top 6 in 2012.

I agree absolutely where you have put us. I expect a little bit of complacency to kick in along the way, even though it has been drummed ino them not to be complacent. You can't help a little bit of head wobbling after a Premiership.

Hawks is an interesting one. You have the cattle to top the ladder. You just need to stop breaking mirrors and need to stay away from black cats.

Not singling you out here but if I had a dollar for everytime time this type of comment was made and proven wrong...

Yeah I agree with that, but I just feel a lot of teams that have been at the lower end of the ladder in recent years are starting to improve, meanwhile Sydney have lost Roos and are going through some pretty big changes and think they may just miss the 8 for the next couple of years. Don't care if I'm proven wrong because I don't mind Sydney at all.

I really cant see Melbourne missing the 8 now looking at their draw.

Teams they play twice:
Richmond
GC
Port
West Coast
Hawthorn
Carlton

Playing Interstate only 3 times against:
GC
West Coast
Port

I believe I've already done this:
West Coast 16 to 8
I don't think any one from the bottom 8 is anywhere near going top 4

Most think the same every year and guess what.

Except for maybe once or twice a team from outside the 8 has made the top 4 the next year.

The difference between about 14 teams is far smaller than most on this thread are giving them credit for and it's the little things or injuries that will decide ladder positions.

Good call.

Except I reckon you were way too charitable to North by putting them as high as 8th.
