2011 Ladder Predictions - Part 2

Massively over-rated team? Not on BF - can't remember anyone last year giving us a chance to make the eight. I expect we'll win five more games this year than we did last year - young team has only got better and there is good depth there now: look out in 2011!

BigFooty is the only place they aren't over rated. And we all know BigFooty can have a tendancy to overcompensate so yeah, they may be under rated on this site.

I tried to clarify that a few posts later, I think they are massively over rated by the media and punditry. They are a classic example of a side relying too much on too few.

Saying that, I noticed that after whingeing about the over rated comment, you went on to place them 3rd in your ladder.. :)

I think this will be one of the hardest years to predict who will finish where. I can see why people are tipping WCE and the Bombers to fill the lower part of the ladder, but 2 years ago they both finished 8/9th.

Past history doesn't necessarily equal the future; particularly with the also-rans.

just for fun, trying to shake it up. :)

Most think the same every year and guess what.

Except for maybe once or twice a team from outside the 8 has made the top 4 the next year.

Once or twice in what? In 10 years then you'd be right.
Not sure how that proves anything.
The top 4 and more so the top eight has been quite stable of late.
The bottom group of teams could fight for a spot in the 8, but I think that they are very unlikely to challenge for the top 4.
By the way if you think that Essendon are anywhere near top 4, or top 8 for that matter you are kidding yourself.

From memory i think it is once since 1990.

That might not definitively prove anything but it does show my scenario is far more likely than yours.

The top 4 hasn't been stable at all as i have already pointed out. One team virtually every year misses making it again.

Nowhere did i say that Essendon will make the top 4 and they won't but they are a chance to fall into the eight but will most likely win around 10 games and miss.

But didn't bigfooty say Freo were destined for the bottom 4 in 2010, and if you put them in the top 8, let alone top 4, you were deluded?

I'm not saying we will make the 8, barely any Essendon supporter wreckons we will, but that last statement is stupid, you don't know what could happen

ABout 95% of neutrals reckon Essendon is a dead certainty for bottom 4 and many of these have them in the bottom 2.

I look forward to all these people praising James Hird's coaching if they finish outside the bottom 4 this season.

Didn't happen when most tipped Carlton to drop way out of the 8 last year. .. wont happen when the Blues prove the haters wrong again this year. .. Hirdy will get his first year boost, its 2012 Essendon should be concerned with. .. Plus I might praise the turncoat if Essendon improve more than 2 places ;)

Finishing 13th does not warrant praise.

I had West Coast down for 15th, Essendon down for 14th. If we finish 13th I will be calling for Worsfold's head. If Essendon finish 13th it will be a so-so effort.

Essendon did play some good footy last year but their gap between their best and worst was huge. They'll rattle a few cages next year, not without hope of finshing in the 8 but it's unlikely. Worsfold needs to get the Eagles into the 8 for a contract extension, whilst if Hird improves Essendon's performance even by a bit in 2011 it will be a pass mark.

But Hird is a terrible coach and Essendon are an awful team. If he manages to take them to say 12th, people will surely have to acknowledge that he did a great job, given how dire the list is.

I had them to make the 8 last year and this year I think they will finish top 6.

I understand supporters and the club would want improvement from the Eagles, but to say Woosha should be sacked if they don't play finals would being going a bit overboard wouldn't it?

Just a bit. .. unless there is wood-rot in the club and they need a clean start they would be best off extending Worsfold for another 2years. .. The guy has shown at both Wet Toast and the Blues that he can develop youth (Cousins/Kerr/Gardiner drug issues aside). .. They should use him to develop their next list and then clean slate it, move him on, when on the rise again. ..

I agree.

I think WC are in the same position from their supporters as a few other clubs where aiming to make the 8 is unrealistic.

Sure if things go well injury wise then a few of these teams could sneak in, mine included, but what the supporters really just want to see is improvement and consistency.

Lose to the good teams, maybe snag a win or two against them, but beat the teams you should.
