2011 Premiership merchandise and memorabilia

And it's not as though they treat members well in the first place, I've found the Cats Shop prices are the most expensive of any outlet for any merchandise - and the 10% discount just brings it back to about par.

And you haven't even mentioned the postage.

Just tweet the question is SJ. As in, we've heard this rumour, it can't be true surely.

For this sort of thing the memberships should overlap.

For example you should be able to buy from the cats shop with a 2011 membership right up until the end of february.

They want sales dont they?

Its not rumour, unless they conned my old man. Which would be sad considering he spent over 1k on that visit alone.

But yeh the club is certainly cashing in.

I honestly dont mind buying things from them, at least you know the club is getting the profit, not some giant retailer.

But yeah the members discount expiry reeks of profiteering.

I guess its the modern way, our club is really just a "brand".

Could be totally wrong about this, but I thought the membership discount was never applied to any premiership gear anyway.

I think I remember buying gear from the Cats Shop after '07 and '09 and being told that the discount didn't apply for any premiership merchandise.

Massive scam in itself, but a different story to the one that suggests you need a not-yet-existent card to get the 10%.

Interested in whatever answer emerges from the club about this; I'm certainly in the camp that says that no matter how much the overall operation of the GFC has improved off-field the general interaction of the club with the public (both on the phone, and through the Cats Shop) is still far from top-notch.

To be fair, the staff at the Cats Shop have been OK to me though. They organised signatures of Kel and Shan Shan on my copies of 'The Mission 2' before sending them up here to Qld after '09.

My best mate follows the Hawks, and there's just no comparison. They sent out a "20% off one item" voucher to long-term members a few years ago, and he was able to use it to shave over $ 100 off the price of a significant piece of HFC memorabilia.

When he told me that story I smiled ironically at the thought of whether our club would ever provide a similar service to members...

I definitely bought plenty of 2007 and 2009 premiership gear at 10% off using those seasons membership cards. I remember going to The Cats Shop before Christmas in 2009 and spending several hundred dollars on the premiers guernsey, scarf and a few other things and getting 10% off the entire purchase.

Would be really disappointing if that's not the case this year, and it would make me look at purchasing elsewhere (aside from the items that are Cats Shop exclusives). As SJ said, their prices are pretty obscene for the most part (the 2011 replica cup is $199 at the Herald Sun shop and $270 at the Cats Shop) and as much as I like to support the club by shopping there, it won't be at the cost of getting ripped off.

Dont be so hard hoffy.
All retail is organic, and they need to move with customer moods etc.

But it's a bit dumb there is no 10% off on premiership merch now, with christmas coming. In fact not just dumb but a bit crazy.

Does the club organise/charge to get specific signatures?

I have a few things I want signed by specific players but dont want to stalk them.

Start stalking

Quick way to annoy your members with that sort of deal.

Just make it a flat 10% off everything, they'd probably sell a stack more stock.

Apologies if my post confused you.

The only reason I was able to get my copies of the book signed by players was because they were doing an in-store signing at the Cattery anyway, and I rang and asked the staff of the Cats Shop to send me up a few signed copies given I wouldn't be able to make it to the in-store.

I imagine it's a very long shot that the club will organise signatures on your behalf outside of already-scheduled situations like this one.

Shocker about the premiership merch. discount too, by the way.

I too think they'd sell a stack more overall if they just allowed the 10% on everything all the time. I know that would result in me buying more gear than I do now.

Maybe our marketing department is just like the wider AFL world in hoping that the problem of how we price our premiership merchandise for members goes away soon.

Has anyone received an email saying it is from the "Geelong Cats" and offers personalised calendars, Xmas cards and iPhone4 covers? They appear genuine with a link to the official Geelong site. I'm also a Giants member this year and have received the exact email for the Giants- in both cases they have my first and surname. However I'm thinking this is sus as until now you haven't been able to get Apple AFL products.

Does anybody know if the official AFL memorabilia pieces are out yet?

I want to pick up this replica medallion from The Cats Shop next week so am hoping they have them in stock.

I have pre-ordered one. I keep getting e-mails every couple of weeks to notify me of a delay with the manufacturer.

Possible the first was sold at the ground?

Definately different though, colour and missing text obviously.

Maybe ask the seller where he got it from.

Maybe a factory second, trying to score some coin off it?

It's not too bad i guess...I mean a genuine game ball Sherrin is $170, and this appears to be a real deal Sherrin minus the correct printing.

And let's be honest, who is going to take their Premiers Sherrin out for a kick at the park anyway? Mine from 2009 is still brand new in the box...and intending to stay there :p
