^^^ Me too.. but i get the feeling he might fall somewhere between our 1st and 2nd picks.. to get him with our first rounder would be a reach i would think?? If he slipped to our 2nd i would take all of 1.34864 secs to read out his name

A lot of the mock drafters have Jaksch going before our first pick, not sure it would be a reach taking Jaksch at pick 16.

I rate Jake Stringer very highly - but in the long run, as a midfielder. I'd take him top 5 without any worries.

Mason Shaw and Kristian Jaksch are the two best KPFs in the draft, with Jaksch more likely to be gone by our pick in my opinion. He has the fact that he is Victorian going for him, and is also more versatile a player than Shaw. I'd happily take either with our first pick.

Tim O'Brien looks to be a quality player. Not a real dominating full forward type, but good on the lead and strong athletically. Reminds me of Jarrad Waite. Think he might go between our first and second picks.

Jordan Bourke? Maybe late in the draft. James Stewart? Maybe as a rookie.

Spencer White, Brant Colledge, Alex Howson and Michael Close are the others I'd be looking at - probably in that order. Josh Porter and Liam Flaherty could be decent rookie options too.

Thoughts on Simpson? Did well at the DC and ranked as a Top Prospect. Not saying a #16 pick but maybe he falls to us at #37:

Josh Simpson (East Fremantle)

Josh Simpson would be a really nice to have, but I think it would take our first pick.To be honest, I am starting to think that Mason Shaw might go past our first pick on the day (and we go for a Simpson or Garlett) but not far enough to get to our second pick - It would be nice if they could pick up a pick the twenties...

I think that has been happening regularly with our best available policy. If we don't trade for a tall or pick up an in-between pick like you suggested, I'm not sure we can afford to do that again this year.

yeah, this worries me a little too. i'll have to be calmed down if on draft day we went for someone else other than Shaw, jansck or the like and then missed out all together

The AFL website's got the highlights of all this year's high-profile prospects up... Love the look of this Stringer kid:

http://bigpondvideo.com/AFL/496208/Draft Prospect: Jake Stringer/

Looks like a ready made man-child (94kgs!) as Darling did when he came on the scene and is also 191cm (hopefully he can keep growing). Also seems to have a bit of that swashbuckling Pavlich skill about him and can really clunk a mark. I understand that he might be little on the short side but if Pavlich (192cm) and Darling can fill that marking forward role with aplomb then this kid looks like he can follow in their footsteps. The article on the AFL website predicts him going anywhere between pick 15-25 in the draft which means there's a very good chance he'll be available come our pick. I'd take him in a heartbeat over Shaw (who a lot of talent scouts have reportedly gone cold on) and the 195cm Jaksch (although I'm loving the look of him from the vids, seems to have an incredible contested marking ability) who both seem likely to be available come our 1st pick (according to this article at least http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/208/newsid/149635/default.aspx).

Seems our recruiting staff made a smart decision to wait til this year to pick up a talented young KPP. I'm confident at least one decent kid will slide to us...

I would still rather take Shaw. His highlight package looks quite good, and he's West Australian which is a huge plus.

He looks quite the natural goal kicker, good hands too. Toss up, as Jaksch looks like he could be the McPharlin replacement we are looking for too. Please let's trade for an early second rounder and get them both!!!!

Chris - realistically speaking do you think it likely that Stringer will fall down the order (even past our pick) because for a modern key position player he probably isn't going to fit into the "preferred" height range, and as a midfielder apart from height and kicking he doesn't have top numbers there either (in terms of endurance, 20m pace, agility)?

I know he is a good prospect and everything and yes he would be top 5 for me too, but just isolating out the things that people look for makes me think that he will be in the no mans land that guys like Darling were in.

Yes watching that video made me happy. Nice size, but still seems to have a low centre of gravity - definitely see where the future gun prediction comes from.

As has been covered by Chris25 in the past, Stringer is rated somewhat of an anti Pav - ie. he's probably more of a mid first and a key forward 2nd. If both he and Shaw are available at our pick i'd find it very hard to decide which one i'd want more, I'd rate Stringer more of a chance to make a name for himself in the future but I find it hard to go past the young homegrown kid with so much hype about him last year at South Fremantle.

Thats why I think we need to be pushing seriously hard at another first rounder and preferably a low teens one.

So, keeping that in mind, the one player we could probably trade for a sub25 pick and still be able to cover off is Clarke. (Assuming we have not already secured a Gumby or Hansen type)
So, if that was done, would most people be happy to get Shaw with Stringer or Jaksch using our existing first rounder plus the pick gained from Clarke?
Know I would but many get a bit touchy when the suggestion to trade out Clarke is mentioned.

I've got no problems with trading Clarke but think your overestimating his trade value. We'd be lucky to get a pick in the 20s for him and that ain't gonna get us any closer to getting any of the decent KPPs in this draft also pretty unlikely we would find a player better than Clarke or a more useful in the short term.

Clarke would be close to what Dawes commanded pick 20.Not less than 20.

Thing is though - we would only have some chance of nailing two of those mentioned and probably at least one with 2 x sub25 picks. Remembering this is a wish-list thread, I for one am really keen on getting more KPP types in - be that with trading or drafting.

Apparently there is another Rioli (cousin of Cyril, I think) who was been tested at a combine on the weekend. Doesn't want to go to Melbourne because it's too cold.
