Well, GWS is a long-term plan. If we look at Sydney's average crowd over the years, they were at 9,000 in 1990, 15,000 in 1995, and 36k in 97. This coincided with Sydney's good years and with the whole rugby thing.

Long story short: when GWS start winning, people will start attending, because NSW are the fair weather state.

890K is amazing considering our draw.We need to stop asking for Tas games V Vic clubs.
50K+ huge Friday night.
All other crowds disappointing.
GWS needs a lot of work.

Well according to some posters averaging anything less than 52,222 across the remaining 18 games is pathetic...

56,491 @ MCG

Not a bad roll up for an end of season dead rubber (at least for Essendon)

Pretty sure Brian Taylor stated numerous times during the telecast that the attendance was 70,000...who finds these commentators?

Yeah, would've liked to get around 60k, but you can't expect that that many Essendon supporters would show up, given the way they've been going so it wasn't too bad.

Crowds for the round:
Hawthorn vs West Coast: 50,023
Geelong vs Sydney: 20,045
Adelaide vs Gold Coast: 35,463
GWS Giants vs North Melbourne: 6,696
Essendon vs Collingwood: 56,491
Fremantle vs Melbourne: 32,687

To be fair to BT (not sure I'll ever say those words again), from the commentary box/tv camera side you would be looking straight at a heavily populated AFL members for the whole game, and not be able to see the entirely empty bays in the MCC and Northern stands. From where I was sitting in the AFL members I was initially surprised it was as much as 57K because I had the opposite view.

Just points up the simple reality that even the highest trending match ups are vulnerable to one of other or both of the sides being low on the ladder or having a fanbase which has no expectations. Any commentary on attendance at any game ignoring ladder position and expectation is a meaningless cherry pick. Averages across a series of matches with teams in roughly equal situations is the only comparison worth making.

Should be at Etihad. Anyone know when this agreement between the MCC and AFL that says that if two or less Melbourne teams are in home finals they must be played at the 'G ends?
Yes Docklands would have been a better fit all ways around = roof shut = better standard of footy, nearly full house would have a far better atmosphere than the G half full with the fans freezing cold..
