He was interviewed on SEN yesterday morning.
Couldn't have spoken any better about how he has matured since leaving Hawthorn and returning back to Tasmania.
I have no doubt at all a club will pick him up next week.
They're coached to say the right thing in interviews.

Don't like the post on TC by a Tasmanian who said Thorp would text coaches and journos with his post-match stats. FIGJAM that ties in we ith other things he's done.

Think clubs will be wary of players like Thorp. Pies and Dockers could have drafted this "match ready star and talent"', only to sign White and Gumbleton by trading. That's enough for me.

Not sure just yet whether he aced it
#11 Menzel - good player but shouldnt get this pick wrong
#35 Temay - was originally very happy but is still a fair way off senior football
#54 Graham - this may prove to be his best selection

Rookie Draft
Cachia - may struggle to be best 22
Collins - gone

Cachia still played heaps of games this year and did well in the majority of them. Only Temay has question marks over him but I think the club drafted him with the idea of putting some serious weight on him before he starts playing senior football.

I'm not sure that it'd be that hard to find footballers to fit into our culture unless they don't like pretty haircuts or being a bit soft.

In my opinion, the clear issue with our current crop is only culture. We are as talented as anyone.

Freo sure did take a massive gamble on Gumbleton with pick 50 something :p? and the Pies just need White to not be a complete spud since they already have Cloke.

I think the reward outweighs the risks with Thorp. At worst we waste a very late pick in a shallow draft or we finally get a half-decent forward which would likely the same result as drafting a young KPP with the same pick ( same risk as taking anybody else with later picks). Hawthorn who usually manage well by trading are very keen on D Garlett who has been in constant contact with Alastair Clarkson.

Would love to have Cam-maC on our list. From Emma's profile he's a natural talent who will only get better with a couple of preseasons. We've shied away from risking a high pick on a teenage KPF since Kennedy.

However...

I took the interview with The Rog and his riddles about best available to mean that we'd bypass risk to select a kid like Lennon - would bleed for the jumper like Docherty and will slot into a HFF opposite Menzel fairly quickly.

Do you think he's setting some of us up for Crouch?

Don't believe everything you read on the internet, especially on TC.
There will never be a perfect footballer, and if you keep looking at just the cons then you will never recruit anyone.
Fact is he's 195cm and about 94kg - just about the perfect height and weight for a third tall.

To be fair, Menzel came to us with an injured knee and missed most of the preseason. Will be better with a full preseason under his belt.

Sounds like we'll be after one of Lennon, Salem, Freeman of Crouch from all of this. I'd be happy with them (in that order) but would rather take McCarthy if on of the first 3 didn't fall to us.

Similar to you, I'd be happy of either Lennon, Salem, Acres, Freeman or McCarthy (and possibly even Crouch).

In no particular order.

I'm hooked on Lennon. Someone come up with a situation that can see him slide to his beloved blues.

GWS – Boyd
GWS - Kelly
St Kilda - Billings
WB – Aish
GC – KK
Coll – Scharenberg
Bris – McCarthy
North – McDonald
Melb – Freeman
Coll – Bontempelli
WCE – Sheed
Rich – Salem
Carl – Lennon

So it looks like we need freeman to melb at 9 and McCarthy must go before 13 for it to happen. FINGERS CROSSED.

Yeah they would be the main moves for it to happen ... of course unless WCE or somebody else pulls the trigger on Acres earlier.

I still get the feeling that even given the above Richmond would still be inclined to take Lennon at #12 which would leave Salem for us at #13.

I hope they don't do that stupid top 10 count down again.... we all know who will go number 1. there's more suspense in counting up, and having your heart wrenched out when the player you want goes to the club with the pick before yours

1. Boyd
2. Kelly
3. Billings
4. Aish
5. Scharenberg
6. Salem
7. Kolodjashnij
8. McDonald
9. Freeman
10. Bontempelli
11. Sheed
12. Lennon
13. This is actually the exact point it gets difficult haha

13. Acres.

I see the spanner in the works to be if Brisbane pick Sheed (simon black replacement) then WCE pick Acres (assuming they go local)

Is there really any substance in these new sayings?

"He's developed these skills from his basketball, cricket, soccer etc etc backgrounds"

Aren't these same skills part of any footballing upbringing?

To a certain extent that is true.

I think cricket would definitely help your judgement, as mentioned previously. If you're a batsman playing any decent level of rep cricket, you'll be facing bowlers in the 130km+ region. To be any good facing that you need a keen eye to pick the line and length early at those speeds, and you'll also need fast hands in order to play the shot. Do this regularly and your hand eye co ordination would be honed greatly. If you can pick the length of a fast bowler in cricket, chances are you'll be good at identifying the balls drop zone in footy better as well.

While these skills aren't just from those specific sports, someone who has had previous experience in other sports could well have advantages in certain areas.
