So I'm looking at this trade as:
2 for Tyson
Upgrade from 20 to 9
Upgrade from 72 to 53
is this right? seems like a win
When you recall that Tyson is a former no 3 with two years in 'the system' and just the type we need, it looks pretty damned good. Let's hope he, Michie and whomever else (Trenners, Ckark and Dawes) can all remain injury free throughout pre- and next season!

If there's one team I want to see improve next year (apart from my team of course), it's the Dees. You guys have put up with some horrible shit lately so with a few more mids you should be looking to notch up many more wins next year. Just add Matt Crouch with #9 and you'll be set.

Just updating the contracts thread. Have added Vince. If anyone can find a link to contract details of the others please post in the contracts thread thanks. :)

You just gave away a potential superstar mids in Aish or Kelly...
sorry guys but Tyson is not in the same league as those two...
Paul Roos looking for the quick fix as opposed to rebuilding the right way...
Hope it works out for you.
So a player who has shown signs in the AFL of what he could be isnt as good as an untested player? makes sense i guess

I would hazard a guess that there's room for all of them next year (haven't sat down and done a best 22 yet) and let's not lose sight that injuries hit every club so depth is crucial.

Same reason why I shook my head at people thinking we should trade Fitzy. When Hogan, Dawes and Clark are all fit, he won't get a game. But there are going to be many games where Fitzy will be required because injuries WILL happen!!

Think our mids will look like;

C: Watts Trengove Vince
R: Jamar/Gawn Jones Viney
I/S: Tyson Michie

So as depth from there: Toumpas, #9, M Jones, Evans, McKenzie before the genuine spuds come into it.

I think the only other move really is Cross. Take 9 to the draft, doubt we will get much for 30-whatever and 53 so hold those too.

Unless we can package 36 and 53 and maybe a player in order to get a pick in the 20s for Zac Jones.

We should try and package off a few rejects to Brisbane for their early picks. They love our average players.

howd we pull that then???
He was open to a move back to Melbourne (could've gone to Richmond last year but elected to stay/GWS wouldn't do it) and I guess it's apparent the club were open to trading him in this deal!

He signed the extension in February this year so probably had every intention to stay up here, but the Dees asked about him early this week and it went from there.

ah k thanks for the info :) I honestly had no idea we were interested in him, turns out the shiel rumours were bollocks!!! good trade for both sides it sounds like

Toumpas was playing pretty well off half back towards the end of the year. Freeman or whoever we take at nine can rotate through the flanks and mid also. The Swans have like 15 of their 22 that can rotate through the midfield.

If Matt Jones plays every game again next year I'll be surprised, Evans and McKenzie will struggle also.

I prefer to think of it as 'competing' rather than struggling. Hopefully the competition for midfield spots will help to raise the training standards and overall level of ability/dedication in the list.

Yeah I don't think anything was really on the cards until they started talking pick 2 this week and Melbourne asked about Tyson. Pretty sure his manager said that was Monday but he was with a group of the GWS boys at Setanta's wedding in Hawaii, then Dom and his manager spoke Wednesday night when he got back, manager spoke to the Demons yesterday and the trade was done today.

For an idea of how quickly this came together, Dom followed Heath Shaw on Twitter yesterday. Kinda random unless you're a GWS player given we're working on a trade for him haha
