List Mgmt. 2014 Draft

Have a lot of respect for Knightmare, but he is just speculating. I actually think the clubs are keeping their cards very close to their chest for this draft. There are too many options out there. Also fully expect clubs to be throwing speculation in to try and influence decisions. Actually think we may be doing by putting out the suggestion that we may go mid/best available. (prepares to be proven totally wrong).

I think a lot of the phantoms and media comments speak to the view that there is the top 3-5, then a very even yet diverse group of players. through to the end of 1st round, followed by some pretty decent "next" prospects. This will allow clubs the luxury of picking for needs without sacrificing best available.

The 'undersize key forward with x factor' seems to be a difficult type of player to pick a place for in the draft
I would have thought that, after Richardson spent that season on the wing and almost grabbed a brownlow medal, there would have been more tall marking players roaming around between play.

We haven't had the assets to do that much;
Clarke isn't involved enough around play,
We squish the side into a small corridor by the game plan,
Fyfe isn't free to do as he likes,
Our tall forwards are required up forward

An endurance machine that can mark is half way to being an extremely important role player. The trick will be his positioning and disposal.

If Peter Wright slides should we get him?. He is 200cm+ and is avery good prospect by all accounts. Then again we have Clarke, Moller, Griffin, Hannath and Sandi already .

I would. Hannath is nothing special and Moller has struggled at WAFL level. Sandi may have 1 to 2 years left. I'd find it hard not to pick him up considering he can play well up forward not just ruck.

Dunno... based on his beep, 3 km time and athleticism I suspect he would be a third tall, or possibly a half-forward flanker that'd eventually transition into a wing/midfield role. His height may be right for a KPP, but from what I'd thought he wasn't going to be playing that role at AFL level.

I would be really upset if we used a first or second round pick on Lever . The last thing I want is a kid that has had a knee recon before he is 18 and not played senior footy . Watchman and Wright represent far better value and less risk . If Moller doesn't improve this year Wright could prove a smart pick up.
Lever 193 cm ,84 kg
Watchman 196 cm , 90 kg .
Wright 203 cm , 102 kg

What did you think of Apeness' knee history?

We should probably get rid of Apeness then.

We don't want to get too big.
I would draft Wright at 13 if available then go for mids/small def at 34 and 52. The last pick can be best available.

This would leave us with Silvagni, A Pearce, Smith and Vandeluer as developing tall defenders and Wright, Apeness and Taberner as the developing tall forwards. Thats not too bad.

We are in real need of a small lockdown defender or two

It's not the first time that I've heard that GWS have Goddard ahead of Lever, so I think it is actually quite possible that Lever will slide out of the top 10. Time will tell, though.

Sounds like someone is going to slide. We could end up with anyone.

We have to be sure that we don't have too many players on our list that have a history of knee problems and with Griffin and Morro along with Apeness we have enough already .
Why would you use a 1st or second round pick to pick up another one is all I'm saying . Watchman and Wright don't have that problem so in my mind they represent better value and less risk . Another player I would like people to consider is Peter Spurling 199cm ,88 kg

When they had their reco shouldn't make a difference, neither Mora or Griffin had done knees before we drafted them? It's luck of the draw and putting a line through a player simply because he has a history has proven clearly the wrong decision in the past (Judd, Joel Selwood to name a few).
I trust the club to be vigilant and do their homework, but not automatically rule out a player.
