List Mgmt. 2014 Draft

We have to be sure that we don't have too many players on our list that have a history of knee problems and with Griffin and Morro along with Apeness we have enough already .
Why would you use a 1st or second round pick to pick up another one is all I'm saying . Watchman and Wright don't have that problem so in my mind they represent better value and less risk . Another player I would like people to consider is Peter Spurling 199cm ,88 kg
Your comparing Lever who is considered a top 5 player in this years draft to Watchman who struggled to get a game for SA in the champs this year.

This time last year, the draft was giving some recruiters the shivers. "It scared me half to death going in," said one. This year, the feeling's a bit different. "This year I feel comfortable," he said. "This year I think there will be players we're happy to pick right the way through. I'm really looking forward to this one."

13-FREO: Peter Wright
Can't see wright slip past freo here. They are crying out for a replacement for pavlich, could even have an impact earlier than some think and be the missing link in their premiership puzzle.

Isn't this guy more of a ruck man than a forward though?

More the other way round. Claims himself to have modeled his game on Tippett, which gives you a bit of insight. The fear is that he is very similar to Apeness, huge forward with the ability to relief ruck, not sure we need two blokes developing in that role.

Has enormous potential. Could be the next Paul Salmon, but could also be caught in no-man's land between the two positions.

Even better then if we can steal him at 13.

I'm torn on whether I would choose Wright or Durdin, if both were available.

I've had my mind set on Durdin being most likely best available for a while. His ability to play forward could be handy, but his potential as a CHB is why I want him. I think between Durdin, Pearce and Smith (draft-willing) our KPD's would be sorted for the foreseeable future.

Wright has only recently come into calculations, he's gone from possible #1, to top 5, to possibly slipping out of the top 10. He is said to be more forward than ruckman, which is exactly what we need, though his lack of contested marking is a concern for a kid of his size. What I do really like about the possibility of drafting Wright, is that it allows Apeness to focus on being a full-time forward.

If both are available I'm still hoping we go with Durdin, I think he's the safe bet, but if the recruiters pull the trigger on Wright I won't be too unhappy.

So he's modeled himself on the flakiest, overrated, softest full forward in the comp..
We'd be mad not to get him!

Agree. And I think Sylvagni works well alongside the more creative Durdin and Pearce too.

Regarding other posts about Wright and Apeness both having capacity to ruck, so what? Somebody will need to be relief ruck, so for me it adds some flexibility to the 22 and to the list generally. Provided they have sticky hands, decent agility and can play below their knees, no problems.

This is a reason why I like Wright. While most descriptions raise concerns over his one-on-one contested marking given his size, he generally seems to be described as good on the lead, agile and good below the knees for a KPF. Kind of a different beast to Apeness who, when I have seen him, has looked far more comfortable in a one-on-one contest.

Seems likely that one or more of Lever, Wright, Durdin or Goddard will be available, and I will be happy with any to be honest. Maybe a leaning to Durdin as the one with most flexibilty, and a small plus being a crow-eater.

If none are available I become really excited about the midfield prospects who have been passed up, and take a bit of consolation knowing that Keitel, McDonald, Ramsay etc are decent options for us later.

Are you concerned about Neale and Sutcliffe? Go home factor falls with a strong club culture and distance "home" is away from MCG! Vic metro are the most likely go homers.
I am concerned about Sutty.
He is out of contract and that's just how they work. Keep in their ear then trade a late second rounder for them.

I worry that Port will poach SA players from us. They have turned the tide of SA players returning home.

I think that's an anomaly. Like with WA kids, SA's realise that you're far more likely to be drafted outside your state than inside and prepare for it. Someone like Polec (and Yeo) was a unique situation - basketcase club sacks players' coach and the board is at war.

Vic Metro is the issue because of the volume of clubs there and the weird centre-of-the-universe attitude that some Victorians have about Melbourne.

Port have four returnees. Ebert (all the other clubs passed on him for this reason) Polec (Brisbane lost the plot) Schulz (traded after 71 average games in 7 seasons) and Monfries (after 150 games and 9 seasons). Hardly a flood back to Port.
