List Mgmt. 2014 Draft

What would be the point of drafting anyone for "the space of Subi" when by the time they are ready to play we will be playing on the standard size throwing away home advantage Perth Stadium.
Yep. Don't think the journalist thought it through. ...or maybe they don't know we are building a new stadium. A South African cricket commentator said the other day that coming from watching a game of international cricket in Perth to then going to the Eastern states felt like he had gone to a different country.

The word early was that we wanted to upgrade our first pick to make sure we got either Lever or Durdin. Things have change a bit since then though. Wright may slip. Langdon has shot up the draft order. Cockatoo has move into the first round. Unless we are set on a tall (and it doesn't sound like we are), we may simply take the best to slip. Either way, we are going to get a bloody good player with our first pick by the sounds of it.

Hagdorn reckons we are sure to get Durdin. This will seem to make it sure that we don't get Durdin.
Just reading that article, it seems Hackdorn has simply borrowed ideas from other journos meaning he could be right for a change.

Twomey in his comments yesterday mentioned Durdin for us as well and also mentioned Lamb as a slim chance to get to us at 34, To me they both sound like freo type draft picks. Twomey does talk to the clubs so he'd know more than most but the reality is that no one really knows what is going on until draft night, especially after pick 5 or so.

Im really hoping for Lever, Im also hoping the fourth round pick is because we have found a massive diamond in the rough and we don't want to risk the identified player lasting to our first rookie pick.

What if playing half our games on a larger ground is what has caused our side to burn out with a few key hard runner injuries?

I noticed a PD'er had us taking Abbott at out last pick. That would be a diamond in the rough.

We'll get him for Taylor and Electicfeel

The new oval will be shorter but its actually going to have a bigger playing surface than Subi so there will be even more space.
No it won't. But anyway the key is length. The lenght creates distance between the lines and the space to run into. You want the space to run into running forward to use running power not sideways.

The League ran the private screening at Maribyrnong College, which saw Wright complete the 20-metre sprint and agility tests, and the standing vertical jump and running jump tests.

Of three 20-metre sprints, Wright's best time was 3.1 seconds, while he completed one agility run at 8.65 seconds.

He recorded a 65cm standing vertical jump and an 81cm running vertical jump off his left foot. The results were then passed on to clubs, who did not attend the session.

Wright’s testing results would seem to fall into line with the average for someone of his height, although he didn't undergo any endurance testing.

Two players have received late invitations to this week's draft on the Gold Coast, raising the potential for them to be chosen with top-10 selections.

Northern Knights forward Kyle Langford and West Adelaide tall Sam Durdin have both been asked to attend the draft, after another handful of players were earlier invited.....
....While Durdin may have been invited on the basis that he is one club's back-up plan, Langford's invitation adds to speculation that he will be chosen by Collingwood at pick 5.

Christian Petracca and Paddy McCartin, contenders for St Kilda's No.1 pick, will attend, along with midfield prospects Angus Brayshaw, Jarrod Pickett, Jordan De Goey, Paul Ahern, Jayden Laverde, Liam Duggan and Lachie Weller.

Key forward Peter Wright and defensive prospects Hugh Goddard, Jake Lever and Caleb Marchbank have also been invited to the draft, to be held at the Gold Coast convention centre on Thursday night......
.....Duggan remains popular with many clubs, is in contention for Gold Coast's pick 8 and could be chosen anywhere from there down to Fremantle's pick 13, where Marchbank and Lever are also in the mix......
.....Laverde is difficult to place should Collingwood not select him at pick 5 and, if he doesn't land at the Giants, is likely to make it outside the first 10, where West Coast, Adelaide and Fremantle will consider him.

Good kicking is always required. Liked the highlights of Garret McDonagh in the defenders category. Worm burners + dobbing them from 50+

Garrett McDonagh (VIC – Def)
Height: 183cm, Weight: 75kg, DOB: 19/06/1996
Recruited from: Northern Knights
Style: Matt Suckling
Player comparison: Matthew Jaensch
Range: 30-rookie
Profile: Booming 60m kick who can really open up games with his precision, damaging long kick. He lacks some strength 1v1 and isn’t great at winning his own ball but put the ball in his hands and he has the ability by foot to do some real damage and set up the play across half back.

Justin Bollenhagen...he did kick an AFL goal at least.

I'm at odds with the AFL Draft Machine though*, all the players I prefer they label 'Smokey'. Even Mattingly in that category looks useful.

Do think we could use a developing medium/good skilled defender behind Duffield, Ibbotson & Clancee.

*Likely as my draft prep consists of today's couch time only.
