I think Jeremy Cameron is quickly becoming the most overrated player in the AFL. Simply because nobody watches GWS, and just looks at goals kicked.

At this stage in his career, he adds very little outside of kicking goals.

For comparative sake, 2014 stats.

Jeremy Cameron

Age: 21
Height: 194
Weight: 91
Games: 45

Goals: 18.8 (64%)
Goal Assists: 1
Disposals: 8.4/game
Marks: 3/game
Contested Marks: 0.7/game
Marks I50: 2/game
Tackles: 1.4/game

Jack Gunston

Age: 22
Height: 193
Weight: 85
Games: 65

Goals: 22.12 (63%)
Goal Assists: 9
Disposals: 16.7/game
Marks: 7.4/game
Contested Marks: 1.1/game
Marks I50: 2.6/game
Tackles: 1.8/game

Now obviously stats aren't everything, as Gunston is playing in a better team with better support. But people going nuts over Cameron, wanting to sell the farm need to get some perspective.

Note: I'm not saying that Gunston will end up the better player. Just that I'm not sure that Cameron will be the next Carey like many people are predicting.

Salary cap increases every year, so small increases in wages get absorbed in this. Also, we don't know the details, might be on similar money next year, with larger increases the following year based on assumptions Burger might retire etc etc.

Suckling tradeable hey......I'd be ok with that I reckon. Not that I want to lose anyone, and his kicking is great, but lacks that hardness of, say, a dureya who can also play his role.
Guarantee that Hill's recent payrise wouldn't have been proportional to the rise in salary cap. Given his previous contract was an extension of his draft salary he wouldn't have been on heaps. His talent and growing importance to our side is obvious. Would have got a very nice pay rise recently I imagine.

Well, we tried to keep Buddy on a $1mil a season, so we must have some cash. Obviously some of that has been used on other signings, so say we have $700-800kish. That gets one of those players. So to get the other we'd have to find another $800k.

You'd think in this case, Sewell would have to go, and possibly another older player to raise that sort of cash quickly. Sewell would be on, what $350-400k a season?? So where do we get the other $400k from?? Who goes?
Couldn't you kick it in?

I believe the Hawks tried to obtain this guy during trade week last year.
After seeing this highlights package I hope we have another crack

If current trends continue, we'll be known as the Hawthorn Roos and Sydney will be known as the Sydney Hawks! Let's pillage someone else just for shits and giggles.

Hasn't played since very early last season. Wouldn't want to pay much for him.

Kieren Harper does fit into the list management structure.
Is coming off an interrupted preseason with an ankle injury but now has a couple of games under his belt at the lower level so it will be interesting to see where he fits into the Roos side when and if given the chance but he'd most certainly be worth a look.
Not sure of his inside ball winning ability but was highly rated in his draft year as a speedy goal kicking half forward with quality foot skills and running ability (as witnessed in the highlights package).

Missed pretty much all of season 2013 for injury and form issues for memory.

Is contracted until the end of 2015 but I'd take another look as I think there's a place for him in our best 22.

I'm moving on as you are more interested in arguing than adding any merit to your comments or contributing anything decent to the conversation.

Now what was this thread called again...Off Season Targets or Matthew Suckling???

You could move all the Suckling stuff to its own thread.
I tried to bring the thread back on topic but a 2nd round of Suckling debate crept in.
Hard to do via tapatalk.

Instead I've deleted quite a few posts.

People, can we keep this on topic now? Pretty please?

So, how about those free agents, eh? ;)

Calling yourself 'List Manager' probably does not help with first impressions especially if you are just another punter. FWIW both points of view have some validity imo.

I'm not one for arguing but I fail to see how my limited time as a bigfooty member has anything to do with my knowledge of the game and sees "my opinion" worth any less than yours or anyone else's. It appears as though it is In fact anyone that disagrees with your opinion who has the inferior insight of the game yet you have not asked for my qualifications. Like you I could be anybody, have been watching box hill and the HFC for x amount of years, played x amount of AFL games, coach at x level, analyse opposition at x level, take a keen interest in the development of the kids at under 16-18 level, be paid to do so and have my own contacts at our club and at others.

6000 posts on Big Footy equates to a qualification in???

Thanks for welcoming my pompous arse to the forum anyway.

Terry Wallace calls himself the list manager......

So, Ablett signed his GC deal in July the previous year, Buddy opened conversations after the GF but contracts were discussed July-ish(?)

Likely the Club are pretty advanced in talks with the Target by now.

Our forward line looks to be fairly well sorted for the short to medium term, so probably takes out a Cameron type, especially considering he's a million dollar player if you wanted to poach him.

Our midfield is interesting, we are ageing and need a refresh, but we obviously have some talent emerging, will we wait and develop or pull the trigger on a Fyfe, Cotchin, Danger, again, close to a million there to get them out.

This brings us to the backline.
Our backline is relatively well set (Stratts, Schoe, Heatherly,Birchall, Gibbo) but probably our weakest line in the team. You'd think we could get Frawley for 650-700k, 25y.o. and AA. UFA also so no need to worry about Melbourne matching anything.

Therefore, Frawley is probably our best option. But the club always surprises me, and always does a great job.

I think we need to recruit one gun midfielder younger than 23/24. We have alot of solid players coming through, but not sure any will be stars. I think we need 1 absolute young gun mid. i would expect the club is thinking the same way, and is hopefully already in the process of getting one. We should have some room in the cap for the next few years. Not forgetting the huge gap in the cap that has been left by Buddy leaving. Didn't the club even front load some deals with players to open up the cap even more for next season?

I expect a big recruit to come in next season.
