Appears like he's starting to beleive he belongs at AFL level and his football is showing it. Can't wait to see him around more quality mids and another 30 games.

I can't remember a year when so many players have come into the side and are now best 22...

Mitchell, Burton, Hardwick, Sicily, O'Meara, Brand and Howe...

Still wiaiting to see on TO, Hartung, Schoey, Langers...

Whilst I am agreeing with you on the current best 22, it will be interesting what the coaching panel think if we had all of Birch, Frawley, Gibbo and Stratton fit and firing. Having these guys out for possibly the rest of the year will save some very difficult decisions being made. For example, do you really bring back Gibbo at the expense of Hardwick? Sicily? Brand? Gibbo at his best is definitely worth a place, but will he ever get back to that form? Embarrassment of riches. And realistically, we need to look to the future. Keep playing the kids. They're doing OK.

On form I would far rather have Burton in the side in the back pocket than Gibbo. Gibbo looked very slow and got caught too often this year. He looks cooked, the same way the end came abruptly for Sewell, Osbourne and Changa.

Birch definitely gets in as does Chip and Stratts.

Probably means we go with:

HB: Birchall - Brand - Stratton
FB: Hardwick - Frawley - Burton

I'd then play Sicily forward iinstead of Schoey.

I think Gibbo will be 'injured' until Round 23 where he plays his farewell game with the General. That is unless we win our next 5 games and make the 8.

He's gone from brutalizing opposition players to his own team mates. Gave Roughy a good hit on the scone.

What a gun he is. Courageous, aggressive and skillful. Very hard to teach the first two.

Great last quarter by Howe. Great to have a 191cm mid who can take nice grabs when the whips are cracking
I complained last year, that he was SLOWWW (running).

Fortunately, he is lightning quick by mind & in his current role, he's clearly quick enough by mind & disposal.

He's one of our genuine 'Wrecking Crew: Howe, Brand, Hardwick, Sicily, Langers & Doc'. Regardless where they're named, they're killing quality opposition with their output.

He certainly has come from a long way back to where he is now.

From a bit of a timid boy with an "oh shit" look permanently on his face, to now a courageous, bustling tough man with an "oh shit" look permanently on his face.

He's always been courageous, even now I think the main thing is to polish up his disposal some average kicks and handballs but in the contest whether tackling, on the ground or air he's good.

Geez he's taken some scalps this year...

Keeping Kennedy to 4 kicks, 10 marks and 2 handballs was pretty amazing.
I'd say Joey having hamstring tightness contributed but he's had a great five weeks

Still got crazy eyes...

Maybe even crazier with those stitches!

I thought last year that he was glacier-like slow. Fortunately, he's Einstein-like footy-smart!!!

How did Kennedy get rid of it the other 4 times, if he marked it 10x & disposed 6x?

Stats/Headings must be jumbled, right?

Great to see supporters jumping on the Howey bandwagon. Been a fan since he was drafted and started a pre-season thread on who we expected to be our BIG improver this year outside of Burton as he was very obvious.
Comments like "he was a deer in headlights early on" and similar comments are little ignorant. People can't expect 18, 29 or 20 yo kids to come in and dominate straight away. it's a tough game AFL footy and unless you are a Chris Judd who was a phenom from game 1, it takes most young blokes 50 odd games to feel at home. The pace, speed and physicality of the game is a massive step up from both TAc Cup and the VFL. People need to have patience and longer term views when forming opinions. Don't forget players like Suckling and Dureya spent time in the development league at stages!
Not that I envisaged him taking on the midfield tagging role, but to me always looked a natural footballer and great to see him find his feet and becoming an integral member of the team.
In seasons to come, I would expect him to become be released and become a ball winning midfielder.

Couldnt agre more though I didn't start a thread about him. I am really liking the good vibes that our fellow Hawk supporters are now having for him as it makes for much easier reading than the negative and premature conclusions when he was playing in defence. I'm hoping that he has a Cam Ling like career but with more goals and premierships.

Like Lewis, he won't always be a tagged. With more experience and conditioning I think he will become a ball winner in his own right.
