Only knock on Gresham based on those highlights is his kicking. Puts too much elevation on the kicks, so they become a bit loopy. Needs to get them flatter, especially if he is going to be a small forward/midfielder delivering the ball into the forward line.
grigg can be his kicking coach

I wouldn't disagree Bishop knows his stuff. But heaps of AFL recruiters get made to look fools, reality is none of us know what'll happen to the kids in the AFL system and we'll back our recruiters to make the right call.

We've selected some vanilla (good vanilla) players with our first rounders, almost guaranteed solid B grade players with some more potential upside. We're right in our window, now's the time to take a risk.
Absolutely, more than happy for us to take a risk, and I'm not going to pretend that I know more than the next bloke so if we end up drafting Rioli i'll back him in as our recruiters know infinitely more than I do.

That said I'm still not keen on Rioli, still think his major selling point is his name, followed by his athletic traits and then lastly what he has actually produced on a footy field. Granted he had a good game in the TAC cup final and the Allies game, but up until that point his stats were very underwhelming and he was hardly talked about as a draft chance at all. A good combine and suddenly he is a potential first round pick, seems a little off to me.

In the end though our recruiting guys know much more than any of us so I'm not too fussed in all honesty, certainly is nice to go into a draft not knowing who we are going to select with our first pick for once, feels like ages since that has been the case

Got to remember also that he is a kid from tiwi who moved to ballarat. Wasnt all smooth sailing for cyril either. Daniel doesnt have cyrils talent level but he is very talented, extremely fit and extremely fast. Should be well suited to the modern gamr and will get on the end of a few. Would prefer Ah Chee myself but there is no doubt we need a small with jet powered heels in our forward line

I personally would prefer if Richmond drafted Kieran Collins over Daniel Rioli because it looks to me as though some of Richmond's depth key defenders are not coming on. Also, Chaplin is heading to 30 now, so before we are left with little option in that department, I think we should go for him. We already drafted players like Jayden Short and Daniel Butler last year who can fill the small forward role.

I'm sold on Burton. Sounds like clubs are happy with his knee so I see no reason why we shouldn't take him if he's available. He was earmarked as one of the best players in the draft. Genuine footballer.
Agree.
Judd, Selwood, Heppel, Stringer are all players that have had injury conserns before they got drafted.
They ended up ok..

I believe we are now at the point where can go all in for a high risk high reward selection, like Burton. We've got enough young talent to cover it if it doesn't work out (for every Selwood & Stringer there is a talented guy who doesn't make it....) but if it does come off *laughs evily*

I just can't see any good reason that we'd take Rioli over Gresham. What does he have that Gresham doesn't?

Bishop knows more than anyone else in here so i'd value his opinion a bit higher than that.

Selecting a bloke who did very very little until the very end of this year at pick 12 seems like a massive risk I don't think we need to be taking, wouldn't you agree?
I'd also value the opinion of guys at the club paid to do this for a living over a big footy poster
