I'm more surprised that as well as McBean and Mckenzie that we are considering another KPF at all. I wonder if there are concerns with those two?

We would have to be setting the bar really high of we're concerned with the development of these two. I do worry about hardwick's comment reagarding players who play too much VFL become VFL players (ie Not AFL players)

Malthouse used to say the same thing. Gotta put them out there.

1-2 players each week should be in the AFL team regardless of whether their VFL form demands it.

Warney's shield and district averages are nothing incredible

Not really sure what he offers Richmond ?

He seems like a poor mans jack Darling and the inbetweener size

We have Lennon and Lids as well as martin that play that role unless he can offer something as a big bodied mid like fyfe i dont think we need him for our foward line
Martin and Lids are freakish at winning one out contests forward of centre and Lennon is showing signs that he has the same ability. If Richmond believe Burton can overcome his injury, why wouldn't we take him?
Players who win or halve contests forward of centre and have the class to convert chances are gold! Becoming a Fyfe / Kouta type is a huge long shot, but, he seems to have the most tools of his peers given his size, athleticism and last years form.

This should help people when they are trying to decide who we should go after with our picks. For mine a couple of players who can start as medium forwards with our first 2 picks and then either a project ruckman or KPD.

As I stated Flea it is a guy feel with players of his type who are very offensive dominate . They have been told all their life how good they are offensively . When they reach the AFL they are required to have a greater defensive mindset . Coupled with that he is physically immature and will need slot of time to be ready physically to regularly handle the rigours of AFL .
As I said it is purely a guy feel that he will return home disgruntled in a couple of years from limited opportunities , I am not sure you can have any facts on such a matter unless the player themselves States I'll be going home .
Which I don't for a second believe he has .
Fair enough, and I agree, but it appeared to me as if you were stating it will definitely happen, which is the point I was making.

Based on watching 5-10min of video...can't get warm about Gresham and no interest in Mathieson. I know most say Rioli not worth a top 20 pick but he's got some tricks. I like Balic too.

With our 2nd ND pick or our 3rd?

Unsure- Probably our 3rd

Is there any reason to think Porter is a better player than what we have in Lloyd?

He's a KPF, moves well for his height. He's been on our radar since he played TAC Cup a few years ago, we've been keeping a track on him. His performance in the young guns kicking 3 goals- suggests he's well worth the 'punt' with a late pick as such.

I'll play.

Q: What does NASA stand for?

A: Need, Another, Seven, Astronaut's.

When you saw Michael Jacksons coffin being pushed away by his four brothers, did you think of the same two words I did..............Cool Runnings

No.
Plan A - get the best players available at the draft picks you have.
Plan B - get players that fulfil a need in your structures
Plan C - having given players time to develop, if they are not producing to the level that you forecast and you can trade them for a reasonable upgrade to your picks, do so if you can be confident that that upgraded pick can lead to an improvement in your list.

Your plan - keep players until its so obvious they are not up to standard, you cannot trade them and they are just delisted (best recent example, Jarrod Grant Bulldogs).
Your plan A and B should not be mutually exclusive. Are we going to pick up only midfielders if they are the best available at all our picks?

IMO need to go with best available with definitely the first pick and where players that rated closely at lower picks go with ones that meet our needs. Although we have to be careful drafting on needs or you end up with spuds like in 2013 (picks 2 and 3), but admittedly that was a weak draft.

Also need to factor in player improvement. For example we may not be targeting a KD if the club expects improvement from Astbury and Elton.

I agree cutting our losses where players have not progressed. The interpretation of players on our list where I would differ. You say obvious that Conca is not up to standard, what standard is that? If you mean AFL standard then I would disagree. I think he is good enough to play AFL but unlikely he is going to be a A grader. He was injured most of last season and when he got a game he did OK but needs to improve his kicking efficiency especially.

Given our list profile where there is now very little slack, players that do not improve next season will be on the chopping block. Hopefully not too many in the category or none preferably. There will need to be a few offered as trade bait regardless as when you look at our list there would only be 2 or 3 you would pencil in as delistees, however much can change by the end of next season.

Sam Weideman, class act.

http://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/afl...ame-ankle-injury/story-e6frf3e3-1227405227863

WITH a famous surname like his, you would’ve expected Sam Weideman to have black and white blood pumping through his veins. Well there’s some black in that bloodstream. But not a lot of white.

Sam is the grandson of Collingwood team of the century member and premiership captain Murray Weideman, as well as the son of Mark Weideman, who played 28 games for the Magpies during the 1980s. Yet the youngest Weideman of the trio has been a passionate Richmond supporter since he was just two years old. There was a little period where I tried to go for the Pies when I was about 15, but it didn’t really stick.

So why the Tigers?

Me and my best mate just went to the games each week just watching ‘Richo’ (Matthew Richardson), Darren Gaspar and Joel Bowden — loved watching those guys run around,” Weideman said. “Even though we were losing a little bit, we just enjoyed every minute of it and it grew our love for the game by following the Richmond Football Club

Nice work with the chart. I dont think many sides play too many specialist medium forwards anymore though. We have dusty who can do a great job of it. Cotch can go through and play the role too. Any medium forward we take from here on in needs to be able to run through the midfield. Balic obviously fits this description. Im not sold on him however.

On the topic of Gresham im seeing him as a Joey Montagna type rather than a small forward.

Personally i think our small forward stocks look abysmal with the exception of Edwards. If Oliver is gone im thinking Ah Chee then Gresham at this stage. Not considering Burton as i have no idea of his long term injury prognosis. Not too concerned if we dont land a quality mid in the draft. I think a finals win or two will see us land a big fish.
