Im reading the Ah Chee has elite speed/pace, but not in one of his highlights he goes for a run. So I take what I see from that over people assuming he has pace.
Looks like an average footballer going by that. It's easy to make people look good in highlights, but he doesn't do anything exciting, let alone exciting for a top 12 pick! You don't want to select a player like that at 12.
Should be taken around 20-30.
If one of Oliver or Francis slips, we should go for them otherwise look at Collins. Would be the most logical answer surely!

If you watch him in a game you'd be able to see he has pace. And it's elite- you don't run a 2.83 second 20m sprint as a 16 year old for no reason.

No chance, unfortunately.
I'm not so sure. Lots of Bigfooty hype about Oliver but I'm unconvinced this is exactly how the professionals see it. At the start of the 'draft season' he was viewed as a mid 20s pick, and despite not playing any football since, and testing averagely, has become much more popular. Clearly has had challenges to deal with to perform at the best level, with only half a season of good form... it's not beyond the realms of possibility that he slides to pick 12 if other teams want a 'safer' pick, or value other traits higher.

Hadnt seen Mathieson speak before. Just went to a few games.

Checked out the latest episode of The Grill on the AFL website. Jesus Christ he seems dumber than a bag of hammers. I really dont want us to pick him now.
I assume you adopted this approach with Dustin Martin also?

I see your point, but the same thing happened with Cockatoo last year, and that came to fruition on the night.

Plan A - Get talent based on areas we need to improve / best available with one eye on future drafts and trade targets

Plan Z - Do not expect improvement from players and try to cash them in.
No.
Plan A - get the best players available at the draft picks you have.
Plan B - get players that fulfil a need in your structures
Plan C - having given players time to develop, if they are not producing to the level that you forecast and you can trade them for a reasonable upgrade to your picks, do so if you can be confident that that upgraded pick can lead to an improvement in your list.

Your plan - keep players until its so obvious they are not up to standard, you cannot trade them and they are just delisted (best recent example, Jarrod Grant Bulldogs).

6 clearances: (4 centre bounce, 1 thrown in, 1 centre bounce)

I'll go through his TAC Cup season stats and work out his clearances.

He is an inside mid, so you wouldn't expect his kicking to be elite. However, his contested/uncontested split of disposals in the TAC Cup was almost even, so I would have expected better. I'd still take Ah Chee IMO, but don't have anything against Matho.

Unless 1 of the top 8-10 fall through , Ah Chee is the only player that stands out to me

Just your thoughts on Gresham, Im very concerned about his speed/pace for a small'ish player i think he needs to have the ability to burst through packs and have speed. Foley was good with this and Harvey is also a standout due to his pace but Gresham just look average and doesnt really do it for me

If we can't get Oliver then I'm happy to take the risk on Burton
Not sure if he's the player type we really need, but want to go for best available and I think we're in a position to take a risk on his leg being ok.
If both are gone then its possible someone has slipped and would look at Francis, Milera, Matheison & Gresham

Hopefully Hardwick or Kerbatieh are still there for our 2nd pick, don't want to go for a small forward with 12

Has to be a very very educated guess for me, He has been training at Punt rd and im sure our coaches would have watched him closely and our medico's would have in depth knowledge of his injuries . Probably will take 2 years before he is afl ready so the wait will have to be worth it for us to select him over others available.

Gresham is a link up player if you watch him he starts in the back line and runs straight down the guts and provides multiple links in the chain that's why he gets so many possessions he just keeps running
The kid will be a star

Pretty simple- He isn't going to be there at Pick 12 unless something dramatically changes next week- And I mean they'd have to find some pretty serious reason for clubs not to pick him.

Correct- Oliver will be top 10 no doubt.

He's relatively quick, you can see it during a game- He moves well out of the stoppages. He's run a 3sec 20m consistently over the years- Ran 3.00 at this yr National Combine.

Ah Chee is faster, but Gresham is an inside contested hard nut, Ah Chee outside.

Who do you prefer out of Gresham and Mathieson?

That's why I think that we have enough information on him that if we take him with 12 (15 after bids) then it will be because we are confident in his recovery. We are at a stage where we don't need our first round picks to be coming straight into the side anyway.
