Hale showed a lot of desperation in close

This gf will be an all time classic. Cant wait. We could easily lose. Eagles are fantastic and norf are our bogey teamy

Congrats again Hawks, it seems to be Groundhog Day as I get on here each year and say the same thing. My wife is a Hawks fan so I don't mind seeing you do well(as long as it's not against the tiges of course) I'm sure you will be to good against whoever you play next week and create history. Awesome achievement and I could only dream of how proud your supporters must be. Good luck next week however I don't think you are going to need it.

So if Gunston is fit - my (controversial) selection idea is this:

In: Gunston
Out: Hale

If Gunston is fit we need him up forward. We can't afford to drop Schoe - Schoe's swingman potential is great, and he and Gunston are powerful tall targets together.

I love Hale, and if this is his last year then not making the GF would be brutal. However, his hands last night were unfortunately not great. I think his role should be taken by Rough. He's playing all over the field as it is. While he is going to struggle being the secondary ruckman against Nic Nat or Goldstein - I think his hands and skills in and around the contests in the middle of the ground, where we tend to turn it over, are better suited.

Billy is the ideal sub - I don't think we can drop him. I don't see anyone else who can be dropped. I don't want to see it happen - but if someone has to make way for Gunston then I think Hale is the unlucky one.

Heh
Just posted that on another thread.
It makes sense
They are exactly my thoughts - you can't drop shoey he has had a great 2 weeks, and you can't play Gunston or shoey sub! Just makes sense - plus billy has played 2 quarters in 2 weeks.

In Gunston - out hartung
Suckling sub

Hartung hasn't had much impact in the sub role the past 2 weeks. Has come on and looked over awed.

Would be a big call to drop Hale because as someone else said, with it likely being his last game you know he'll give his all. But then Ceglar missed out last year so you'd expect he'd be fired up too.

Shoe must stay IMO. He provides that additional big target up forward which lets Rough go higher up the field but the smalls still function effectively. Gunners (if fit) for Hartung. Suckers for sub. Could bring in Cegs for Hale?

How long until a fresh thread appears on Big Footy complaining about us getting an undeserved home ground advantage next week? Or claims that it completely discredits our era?

If Gunner is fit (most likely) I think Billy will miss out unfortunately. Poppy or Suckers the sub.
Wouldn't we be a little tall & slow playing both Gunston & Schoenmakers though? We looked pretty slow against the Eagles last time with only one of them, and people were complaining that Hartung wasn't played.

It'll come down to matchups and fitness. Given I expect us to run out of legs then I can see Hartung staying as sub. Is it heresy for me to say that I like our forward line set up a lot more when Schoenmakers plays? Just seems to give us that focal point up front and brings the ball to ground better than any of our other 'big' forwards.

I might actually stop watching the 2014 gf if Hawthorn win next week (purely to start watching the 2015 gf 345343424 times lol).

Anticipating a bit of a football marathon over the next week, culminating in the 2012 loss, then 2013 and 2014 triumphs (including various matches that led to the path to victory).

Won't happen if North get up.

We can't go into a GF against Nik Nac or Golstein with one ruckman.

Oh boy if North gets up and we beat them then there will be discrediting based on North having finished 8th.
If North get up, the media are going to be having the worlds biggest circle jerk about how much of a fairy tale it is having side coming from 8th to win the premiership yada yada yada.

Fantastic! The media focus has been on our opponent the past two years and it worked out well!

As much as I would hate it. But IF Gunston is fit.
In: Gunston
Out: Hartung
Sub: Suckling

I think this is the best solution. Roughie and Hale need Schoey in the forward line. Neither of them are dominating games so we need a 3rd big body.

Its almost unfortunate for Suckling but he will play. Duryea would have been a sub option last year but we need him playing an entire game.

Dont envy the selection committee this week... i guess if Gunston isnt 100% he gets left out.
