I would love Carlton to get Tomlinson (if it is true that he has made the decision to return home).

But with two years remaining on his current contract, what would we have that can possibly be given in order to get him that is not pick 1?

I suppose that the deals between Geelong, Richmond and possibly Brisbane might help as well.

Henderson.

I expect a Buddy type shock trade to rock the media.

Interesting, but I can't see Henderson NOT wanting to return home.
And presuming that the trade negotiations with GWS will most likely take place in the last few minutes of the trade period, I can't see Henderson being involved in any deal.

I came up with an idea. If we were aiming to get all 5 of the GWS players that we were seeking, could it possibly go like this?

Pick 20 = Phillips, Lamb
Pick 21 or 39 (if a direct deal with the Lions sees Bell out) = Sumner, Plowman
Future first/second rounder, Third Rounder, Robert Warnock = Tomlinson

Them asking for more first round picks is going to hurt them given the fact that some of them are already trying to seek opportunity elsewhere. So lower picks should satisfy them. The question is how many.

Spine no longer relevant? Somone should tell the three time premiers they are doing it wrong.
It's not so much whether the spine is relevant, but the spine is not necessarily the Hawks strength. I think the key to the Hawks is that their premium players/match winners are guys like Hodge, Mitchell, Rioli, Lewis, Burgoyne, Smith, Puopolo...These guys are not spine players.

Gunston kicked 4. Frawley and Lake had 40 touches and 20 marks between them. Schoenmakers looked like Kernahan out there.

Going back a long way to come up with a premiership side that wasn't strong through the key posts. West Coast in 06 maybe, with Glass the only stand out alongside workhorses.

If we give up 20 for Phillips and lamb il be very angry! Not sure what SOS's love for sumner and lamb is. Read today GWS are after a mature ruckman this may be our chance to get warnock as far away from Carlton as possible.
My perfect case scenario for Carlton this trade period would be
9 - for Henderson
12 or Lennon - for yarran
21 or aish - for bell or 19 - for bell
We then on trade 20, 21 and a player maybe a warnock (looking for mature ruckman) or a Simon white to GWS for Plowman Tomlinson and Phillips. No doubt GWS would want 19 instead of 21. We pick up Carlise through the PSD and go to the national draft with 1, 9, 12 using the remaining picks on our father sons. If rice doesn't nominate Carlton then I would like to see us pick up best available small forward at our 3rd round pick, we haven't picked one since Garlett

All about the 'futures' in these deals...!

Plenty going on in the background...!

It would be 20 for Plowman, Sumner, Phillips and Lamb

Does anyone on here really believe that the contracted Tomlinson will be part of some Crazy Warehouse bundle deal?

Whichever way, if we can bring in Plowman & Tomlinson while banking a couple of next years selections with losing Yarran, Henderson and Bell, we may have done quite well.............a little pick-up in the PSD and we'll pack up the trade period with a smile.

Giving them pick 20 supposedly gives them points to draft in academy players.

SOS is trying to prove a point that the players he brought into GWS were ideal. And given his relationship and what he sees in them, he would be desperate to give them a chance. Trust me, I wouldn't be too disappointed with their players. Their NEAFL side was very good.

Depends on who is giving the bundle. For a contracted player originally coming in at No.9 in the draft , we would have to try our hardest to come up with a deal that doesn't involve giving up Pick 1. I reckon he is one of the players that the Giants will be really strict with.

We have to give up more than one or two picks if he was to join Sumner and Plowman.

No. IF Tomlinson comes to us it will be a separate trade as he has more currency than any of the other names mentioned.

Will GWS let him go if McCarthy departs? I would suggest not. We have our work cut out trying to get him.

Not really keen on Sumner or Lamb. Phillips would fill a need if we move Warnock on. Plowman and Tomlinson are the two we need.

Shame we're loosing Tommy

It is, but if players leave for reasons other than 'bad-blood' we'll be on the right track.

You take a lot of how players train and the effort they put in at the lower level.......and Tom didn't leave much behind. No bad blood from supporters for Tom

If the spine is so low on priorities, then why did the Hawks need to go after Hale, Lake, Gibson & Gunston ??
The game is about 1. Turnovers and 2. Clearances. The type of players you need are athletes that can defend space. Rowe v Gibson is a good example. Under the spine you might call them both fullbacks. But if you watch closely Gibson is usually diving like a fieldsman at first slip trying to pick off a handball or an underground kick more than he is spoiling a long bomb which he does very well also. Rowe is more your traditional run with, spoil if you can guy. Difference Gibson is more of an athelete who is tall rather than a tall. To 've fair Gibson is playing in a structured defence and knows he has Frawley behind him if the ball vets over the top and any number of runners covering our back.

Yeh true, he has valid reasons and totally understandable.

On the footy side of things, he works so hard and is really starting to come good, anyways wish him well (except against us of course :p)

Some more info on GWS players :

MELBOURNE have confirmed their interest in GWS Giants defender/midfielder Tom Bugg, who wants to return home to Victoria.
Bugg’s manager Tom Petroro has confirmed he has spoken to Melbourne about the Giant in recent weeks.

“I think they’re a chance (of getting Bugg), definitely,” Petroro told SEN.

“Tom’s a good young kid ... Melbourne have come out and said they’re really looking for inside players that are really good competitors, and can play a role either back and mid or forward and mid.”

It is just my view, and others may disagree, but I would contend that Liam Jones is a very long way from average......
I watched a lot of Jones when he was at the Bulldogs and I was never impressed. Recruiting him really demonstrates that Malthouse had lost the plot and is an indictment on the rest of the club for not standing up to Malthouse and stopping the trade.

If some of the proposed trades being mooted on this board are in the wind then I hope someone at the club grows a set and says NO.
