Aaron Young would be a good fit for Carlton, but first SOS will need check with the self appointed 'list manager' for his trade value!

Silvagni would have provided guidance on this prospect. If it is a very cheap pickup, you could do a lot worse.

Normally I'd agree with you but until we have fully built a decent list (which will take a couple of years), we just have to stop picking up speculative/under-performing players from other clubs.

43 in the NEAFL this year.

GOALKICKING LEADERBOARD AFTER ROUND 20

78: Darren Ewing (NT Thunder)
47: Nick Salter (Ainslie)
47: Chris Dunne (NT Thunder)
47: Josh Bennett (Ainslie)
46: Eddie Sansbury (Aspley)
43: Jed Lamb (UWS Giants)
41: Jack Anthony (Southport)
36: Josh Hunt (Southport)
32: Peter Wright (Gold Coast)
32: Jacob Derickx (Sydney University)

If we are going based on NEAFL, maybe we should pick up Darren Ewing then.

After having some injury issues his reserves form this year warranted more game time than he got. Being back in Victoria, it might be just the thing to get him to the next level in his game.

Again, I think there's a lot worse decisions that can (and have) been made. If he's cheap, he's worth a shot.

SOS must see in Lamb what others can't. Been at two clubs already, and his resume doesn't look that bright. If we do get him, I hope it's not for too much. Looking through his history, he went to GWS from the Swans thinking it was going to be a breeze to get a game, didn't work hard enough, and got a shock he couldn't make their 22. If he come to us he will have to improve his attitude and work harder. We really do need a classy small forward though since Eddie and Jeff have left.

Probably still a better selection than Liam Jones

I think he ate Liam Jones

If he doesn't cost us much then let's give him a go ??

This sounds just like what we have done time & time again in the past and look where that has got us.

If the player has genuine talent and wants to fight for a game, then he is welcome to join us at Princes Park on a trial period. Anything short of that and we must be giving them a wide berth.

Line in the sand stuff here.

Isn't that pretty much exactly what I said?

If he has talent and the genuine drive to make it in the AFL, then he's worth a look. If he lacks those characteristics then we take a pass and look elsewhere. If he does come to us, no matter how driven, it should be on a low value, short term deal so that we're not stuck with an under-performing player for half a decade.

In the end, we've got a finite number of list spots, and they should be valued accordingly. However we also have a finite amount of resources for bringing players in. We've got a number of retirements and delistings to cover, plus anywhere from 2 to 4 potential tradees if the reports are to be believed. Our 3rd and 4th picks are tied up with Rice and SOSOS at this point. Our first with Weitering. That leaves our 2nd pick, PSD and Rookie picks, plus whatever we can get in trades to fill anywhere up to 9 spots on the list.

Consider this - there's gotta be some 2-for-1s along the way to make everything fit - I'd rather we get a freebie in Lamb (or someone else if he isn't suitable) than dilute the return for Yarran or Hendo by trying to get extra picks or players out of them.

Yarran = 12
Pick 20 = Plowman and Lamb

vs.

Yarran = McBean and 31
Pick 20 = Plowman

Don't misunderstand - I'm with you 100% on not wanting chaff from other clubs. If there are better options for a plus 1 from GWS (Sumner, Phillips etc.) then I hope we're pushing for them instead. Just saying that not cracking a game in a contending Sydney side or a bonza GWS forward line isn't grounds for dismissing Lamb out of hand.

Crumbed & deep fried ??
Excuse me for interrupting guys, but the Lamb puns take me back to his time at the Swans. Watched him closely there, and he was a dot below the classy mids we had then. Also his tank a little light. EffortA1. Didn't follow him as much at GWS, but at the right price he could be a surprise packet. Thanks for the puns.

But Ballsy, he has been at two other clubs and to date, has not shown this drive and enthusiasm you speak of.

I think you have answered your own question there.

People need to stop over rating our players. If Bell and Casboult played for Brisbane what would you offer for both?

going by the comments regarding players from other teams i think people on here would say things like: Don't need them, they're not A grade, take one in the PSD and pick 38 we will no way give a 1st or 2nd round on them.

Not necessarily - I'm questioning whether he had much of a chance at all at either club. Sydney chasing a flag, chock full of talent and not inclined to bring in an untried small forward. GWS with their ridiculous list, especially up forward.

Are you basing his "lack of drive and effort" on the fact he's been at two clubs? I'm hoping that the club is basing it on firsthand knowledge and extensive discussions with the kid himself.

Jones came to us as an explosive beast, ripping up the training track - just lacks whatever it is that would allow him to convert that to form on the field. Mayhap Lamb has been laconic in the past, but an extended run in the seniors will ignite something. He's apparently got the talent, maybe he just needs someone to give him a proper go.

Either way, I won't lose sleep - we'll get him or we won't.

My concern with Lamb (and has always been with Jones), a leopard never changes its spots.

From the Brisbane board....Just breaking...and I'm taking it on face value...the Herald Sun... Hawthorn has inquired about the situation with Yarran. Yes, ........Hawthorn, demand their 1st pick, thoughts anyone?

Amidst all of this chat & speculation, one player who has avoided the spotlight a fair bit is Sir Roberto Warnockovich.

I'm really struggling to see him being retained especially as there are 4-5 other clubs in the market for a ruckman. Not that I'd wish it on my worst enemy but there may be an opposition club prepared to take him off our hands for a fourth-rounder and a Dominos pizza voucher.

Do we really need to retain him though ??

He's been at the club since 2009 after leaving Freo and to date, has managed to play the impressive total of 88 games over his whole career.

Surely his time is up now ??
