It's a shame that he can't come out and defend himself, all these jounos and other media slam him and they get away with it
Long term I'm happy for us to take the flak we have few friends in the media and they are not shouters. I just want him to get his body right forget about the filth (I have never called them that but it applies in this context) and enjoy playing for the Saints what a dream

Just on Hickey - Isnt he coming back from the same knee injury that has a few posters worried about O'Meara? The patella yeah?

If we swap Hickey for Carlisle we can always talk to them about Giles as well.

Or draft Gach Nyoun with our 3rd rounder - 2015 u18 AA ruck. Also from VIC Country with McCartin, Goddard, Matho etc

Could rookie list someone like Sam Tagliabue as a more mature option as well.

Not actively looking to move Hickey on but if that's the trade... well it's not a terrible one.
Yes and no.

Hickey also had a hot spot in one of his feet last year.

O'Meara has had patella tendon problems during his AFL career, & while it hadn't really effected his game through 2013 & 2014, he did have off-season surgery both years & we already know what happened at the start of this year for him. Will be interested to see how he plays (if at all) next year

I don't want Hickey to go, I think we could be making a mistake, but if he wants more opportunity and we get a great result in return, why not?

As he is contracted, he will not be pushed out, and from what I have read on here, it will be his decision, as long as we as a club benefit.

I know a few guys on here are concerned about his value, but seeing as he is contracted, doesn't that value increase, and this administration is second to none, so I couldn't see us loosing out, and also didn't we use pick 13 to initially get Hickey from GC.

13 and a couple of upgrades in the second and third round.

whilst the dogs get stronger, we could potentially be set. any draft from this years onwards would be the cream on top

pick 5 and 11, Carlisle, Freeman,Rice, Sinclair and we lose our 2nd pick, Ross, hickey and possibly tom lee.

where do i sign?
Don't count your chickens before they hatch guys - this is what many did last year too - it isn't even trade week yet and we are setting expectations which may never be realised.

Keep in mind I was purely talking up a best case scenario. Hickey may not even leave as I said yesterday

The more I think about this, is it possible the role Schnieder played this season the reason we would look at him? He's good for his 20 disposals a week and likes to play on a forward wing with lots of defensive pressure. I'm not sure we have any spots left for actual draftees any more after bringing in 300 players during the trade period though.

I think you've all gone bloody loopy the last few years the way youre all taking about shipping off a required player like Hickey for a shot in the "good" but not elite part of the draft.
We get Carlisle out of it? Great! We are now down a high potential A grade ruckman who has shown he can kick goals and no closer to a list that will win us a flag. The two teams tomorrow both run two ruckmen. Not one. Two. We are lightish on ruck stocks as it is and injury to Longer is going to expose the hell out of us come finals in a couple of years.

So we draft a new ruck! Great! Too bad they wont be ready by that time. Trade one in? Well we better pony up that first rounder for him. Holmes and Pierce? Pierce hasnt exactly set the VFL on fire and Holmes is still a massive working progress that I think can come good but I would not be betting a flag on it.

Look if Bains and Trout could miraculously pull a top ten pick for Hickey then I could see it being a way to bring another elite mid in that could improve our list. But we are likely looking at mid teens at best and I am not confident in that at all.

Apparently, it won't matter because according to the club, we won't start winning games until 2018 and by that time there'll be 4 or 5 top ruck men coming out of contract or FA that will choose us and we'll get them via the PSD for nix.

I think you are over reacting a touch.

I read that Bird is only 26 - decent player too.

I'm very big on also trying to fix the age profile of our list as well as bringing in top talent. I don;t ever want to be in our current situation again or situation from 2 years ago - group of kids, group of veterans, and a small number of 24-29 year olds which is when you're meant to be in your prime by and large.

It's exciting that we're being linked to quality players and that we're being active in the market to try and improve our club. I've said ti before but I love what we're doing off the field and has such an impact on the field but also in becoming that destination club that we need to be in order to first survive and then thrive. We need to get back to those 40k plus members day and in fact increase it to 45k-50k. We can as we have that latent membership base. I think Finnis and his team will do so as once we start to have more success more people will jump on, (a sad fact but there you go). The challenge will be to keep them but I think between the way the club is run, our list management, and our culture we can do that.

I'm meh on the potential Hickey deal but can see the benefit IF we get that mid first round pick.It would leave us light on in the ruck, especially if Longer goes down. Want to keep pick 5 and it sounds like we will so very happy about that. Mathieson seems the best fit at that pick unless he's taken earlier. Freeman assuming he can get out on the park will provide breakaway speed. Another mid for the Hickey pick would be lovely - Gresham or Bonner would be sensational.

Would the next 10 days just hurry up.....not sure how I am going to be able to work and keep up with this thread!!!
