We're not going to do this dance again are we?!

In any event, in the day and age of 200cm KPPs, 194cm isn't particularly tall, though he's tall enough.

Doing what again? I'm sorry but looking at all the best key defenders in the comp and the majority are around 194cm.

Rance, Taylor, McGovern, McDonald, Talia.

You may be right that he's not "overly tall" but I don't see how it's a problem that he is an average height for a quality key defender.

Who was the last 200cm all Australian defender?

Listed heights are rarely accurate any time after the Combine or state screenings.

That's what I don't want to go over AGAIN.

And as I said, he has form as a defender and despite not being a 'modern tall' (ie 198-200cm) bloke, his leap makes up for any shortfall as against the Boyds and Tippetts; I'd be very happy to have him at the club.

As for 'when was the last 200cm All-Australian defender', the point is that those types are the FUTURE prospects... Kids these days are getting taller and taller.

As very very good at Francis is, his demeanour and approach during the Champs really turned me off him. Had no interest in doing the hard and team stuff.

I know the Champs are a shopfront for these kids, but if you're a defender you still have to be accountable for a man.

to put it bluntly, he's not a midfielder nor is he a KPD. amazing intercept player in the champs off half back as the loose man and serviceable up forward but not as a KPF

he basically ran around and did what he wanted. when he was chucked into the middle he struggled with the harder stuff as a mid like taking a hit, doing the team thing or finding the ball in close. just doesnt like the closeness and folds, prefers to open play where he's in space. which he just wont get at AFL even as the loose defender

has shades of simpkin as a defender. not big enough not small enough not agile enough. big risk to select a bloke as a loose half back intercept mark

So doesn't that mean that McStays height would be the same as his combined?

If Rance, Taylor and Talia have all grown since then, won't McStay also grow...?

I'm sorry but everytime I argue about players height I hear this argument, surely it goes both ways?

Yes Plus 1
We are approaching a era of 200cm forwards .Every team either wants one or has one and as such needs a 198 plus backman to play on them .
But lets not go there again !!

Well don't be like that, if I have missed something then please tell me because I'd love to know.

I understand that heights aren't 100% accurate, but if all these guys are measured at 18 and the older blokes have grown, surely the young blokes will grow too...?

Surely that's not as silly as you seem to think it is?

Not everyone grows after 18 - some do and some don't - but the salient point should have been that I think he'd be a good pickup.

But yet again, here we are arguing over hypothetical heights, and what is 'tall' when it's really not the issue. As I said, while I don't consider him to be 'tall' as opposed to forwards like Dixon, Boyd and Daniher, who are more than two inches taller than his listed height I conceded two things in saying that; 1: that he may be taller than his listed height, and 2: that his huge leap makes that less of an issue.

Can we concern ourselves with that actual question now?

The minimum height ish (say Hudgetons) 190/191cm in the late 90s, early 2000s became 193cm by the late 2000s and early 2010s. It not unreasonable for that to get to 195/196cm with a greater prevalence of the 198cm+ forward.

That's not to say that it'd be wrong to take KPPs in that "shorter" range, but it comes with the risk they may not be of an appropriate size for their position.

Why is it that every single time there's an arguement about heights in the last 3 years of D,T&FA threads it's always Barrels smack bang in the centre of it? Lol
Compensating.

If you're looking for a KPD prospect who might be available in the 2nd round and onwards, Swan Districts' Jesse Glass-McCasker was named WA's Championships MVP.

He's 198cm and 95kg and held a fairly ordinary side together down back. Did very well on Josh Schache in the final game too, and he looks like he'll go at pick 1.

OK so much for the small talk.

With the Suns being such a rabble, with half the team on go, who can we prose off them?

Will be a real Brisbane like exodus at year end.

Reckon there will be some contracted players who will want out, and the Suns will be back to the drawing board and looking for trades and dp's.

Who would be a best targets?

Interesting phantom form guide from Call Twomey. Can't copy paste from the AFL app. Worth a look. A few surprises.

Time for Sam Gilbert to go up there.
