It's basic maths 101 when trading players: Buy low - sell high. You weigh up the risk / reward potential and bid accordingly.

Not sure what all the fuss is about.

Obviously, if we can land a gun then all well and good. But I'd be looking at value players who can play, but lack opportunity at their present club.

I see Freeman like Gardiner - if you get him cheap and he comes good, then great. Otherwise, pass.

God I miss The Big Show!

Gold Coast are the team to trade with (picks wise) this year.
They should secure pick 10 off Port for Dixon and it wouldn't suprise me if Adelaide have a crack at Bennell with their Dangerfield compo pick. That gives the Suns picks 3, 10, 13, 19 and 22.

I'd offer them pick 5 and 25 for 10, 19 and 22

10 for Carlile
19 and 22 draft players
Would the Suns do that though? Do they have list restrictions coming in? Maybe it would be in their interests to trade down to a premium pick, because they can't have too many coming in anyway?

In the case of the above I would love:

Pick 10 - draft
Pick 19,22 -Carlisle
3rd rounder - Freeman
Plus upgrade Sinclair

In a supposedly weaker draft we still get a top 10 pick we can develop. We take a punt on freeman only if we can get him cheap.

That's a fair trade for Carlisle in my opinion. I think people underrate how important a Carlisle type would be to our rebuild. I agree wholeheartedly with the "we need mids, we need pace" chorus. But the key positions are much, much harder to fill. There are less of them, they cost a lot more or they take a lot longer to develop. Carlisle is ready made, good age, good upside.

Fisher and Dempster won't be around long and are hard to replace. Good, intercept marking defenders are not easy to find. A lot of teams are playing 3 tall forwards now also. Think talls: Mccartin, Bruce (Membrey), Longer, Hickey, Goddard, Carlisle. That looks bloody good.

In the above scenario we still select a very capable young kid at 10. We take a punt on freeman if we can get him cheap. We bring in a very important piece of the puzzle in Carlisle. We upgrade the talented Sinclair.

Next year I suspect we won't gain ground, we will hit the draft a little harder next year and focus in on mids (and perhaps look at FA mids as well).

Agree. Same philosophy on all of them. Throw cash to OOCs and pick off the low hanging fruit, take our best picks to the draft.

If he was/we were looking for a KPF then I agree, but not for a back, who are more accessible through later picks.

However Steven has to do it at AFL pace. Easier to look more accomplished in the juniors and lower grades. cj nearly won the liston medal this season. His kicking look a whole lot better in the magoos as well.

That is a fair call, I remember thinking how much both CJ & Gilbert's kicking had deteriorated after the 09 season. They didn't seem to really miss targets that year, or certainly not with the frequency they did post 09. Having watched a few of those games back the reason becomes pretty clear.

We literally always had blokes in space. Our workrate was just unbelievable, there was always a get out kick and they were rarely put under pressure to hit a difficult target. From 2010 everybody caught up in terms of their defensive pressure and zoning, and that free man was getting closed down. The reality was the kicking issue was always there, it was just that it didn't get exposed in a dominant side.

Either Seedsmen/Oxley +2nd round pick

or 2016 1st round pick

or (least likely) Adelaide's 1st round pick (from Scharenberg if he leaves)

As expected, expects to give them a hack and second rounder or a first rounder when Collingwood to be much higher on the ladder.

But demands nothing less than a first rounder for a 20 y.o crock who hasn't played in two years

The delusion is strong in this one.

Gee the Saints bf board are a very tolerant bunch aren't we.

Seriously, try going to the Carlton, Injectors boards and posting what we're seeing from some opposition supporters on here.
Fun to have some banter but some perspective would be nice.

I made the mistake of viewing the Lions, Filth and Essendrug boards before I went to bed last night. Went to bed angry, had a shocking sleep and woke up angry.

If anyone is considering it, I would strongly advise against it.

Its bad enough to see some of Pies/Dons more wayward posters breach our defences on our board. I completely understand the opposition posters will be carded threads when these guys come in and post tripe and bait like no other.

I think I'd prefer to just go to the draft than deal with these muppets for a month!

Yeah, we were really crap this year.... and still finished above you guys while playing a younger side
Good for you, flog.

We won't be bent over for Freeman, the comm from inside the club is unequivocal on that. A bonus rather than a priority.

Personally, I hope we pass. But I can see what the temptation is all about.

It would be nice to give you guys a raw deal, as you have lucked out on trades generally recently, and the club's high profile has ensured you get a slabload of advantages that ensure you get it easy compared to most vic clubs.

Still got the Collywobbles though, soz about that

Nice job joff. If I knew that's what it was gonna take to get rid of the flog I would've posted that an hour ago!

To those that have been on this forum for a long time, how do we get rid of the opposition trolling that has begun to permeate on our pages, I had been enjoying the trade whispers up until the Collingwood person has decided that Mont park wasn't for him or her.;)
