It's my understanding that current senior listed players without a contract for next year are Siposs, Markworth, Ray, White, Simpkin, Minchington & Pierce.

We have to delist at least three (assuming a bare minimum of no net players traded in, two draft picks used and a third draft pick used for upgrading Sinclair), more if we want to trade players in or use more draft picks.

I would think in order from most likely to be gone to least likely:

Simpkin
Siposs
White
Pierce
Markworth
Ray
Minchington

We don't have a lot of wriggle room unless our former AFLPA CEO is happy with us cutting players under contract for next year (which includes blokes like Saunders, Murdoch, Curren & Lee).

Richo did a good interview couple weeks back. Gave minchington and Pierce a wrap. So markworth should be ahead of pierce in the delistings

My 2 cents on trade period:

Shaping up to be a real fizzer to be honest. I am much more interested in who get in the draft period. We might get some nice additions in the trade period, I hope we see some more Membrey type surprises. However, we are just not in the mix for marquee types IMO, and will not be until we prove we are premiership contenders. When was the last time the Saints pulled off a monster trade for a gun player that had multiple options? It just hasn't happened, and is becoming less likely to happen in the modern era. The Dogs are the only example of a minnow club that have pulled off a monster trade, and they have had to risk their whole list management strategy in order to pull it off.

We will remain a viable destination for a blokes looking for more opportunity, but right now we simply are not a destination for elite young talent who can pick and choose any club. Reasons like "He grew up in Bayside" mean absolutely nothing. It is 20 minutes to the Lexus centre or Punt Road, or even less to the Hawks new $40m facility in a couple of years.

I don't want to disrespect the guys who are privy to inside information, I absolutely believe you hear this stuff floated around the club. However, we also have to understand that other boards are regularly hearing similar things from their "inside guys". It doesn't matter whether we are discussing Shiel, Cameron, Bennell, Carlisle, Motlop, Treloar you will find an almost identical tip on another player board involving their club. The point being, it is easy to get excited by the prospect of some of these trades but it has to be taken with a grain of salt, even if it comes from the club. Players will explore their options but it is damn competitive out there, and we need to be realistic that we are well back in the pecking order.

Sorry to be a downer, but overall it is shaping up to be an uneventful trade period for us. Next year might be much more positive with a strong change to lure Weller. We might even be able to secure Hurley (hoping a Saints supporting family has some impact). This year I am more looking forward to draft night, have no idea who we will take. Hopefully we land this year's Bontempelli!

doesn't mean he'll accept it though...especially if he's offered 2 years or 3 years elsewhere.

I think we'd be happy to let him go for free.

I think that's the plan/position -

"Faz you have been great but we need to play Bull, D-Mac, Blakers etc before you. Shop around and see what is out there. If you can get 2 or 3 years at Melbourne or Essendon or Brisbane then by all means take it.

Worst case there's no real option, we will take you back happily on a 1 year deal to play VFL and cover an senior injuries to Gilbo, Joey or Gears that we feel need to filled by another senior player."

Seb Ross + 25 for Richmonds pick 14.

Richmond need a tough inside mid.
I don't mind that trade, even though I think Seb will be good, what would we do with pick 14, an outside mid or Carlisle, or is that way too much for a backman.

If Carlisle nominated us in those circumstances I'd keep pick 14 and offer them next years 2nd.

Percy's crazy thought for the day. If I was the recruiter at a contender like Richmond that needs an inside mid, I'd be getting a delisted FA by the name of Clinton Jones. Cheap, hard bodied, finals experience, about to win the Liston after a dominant year in the VFL as a grunt mid.

I thought of an interesting one last night guys: would you trade Billings for pick 2 to get Weitering (assuming Brisbane take Schache with 1)?
Not worrying about destabilising the playing group, and I'm not suggesting either Carlton or us would actually do that, but my question is, essentially: who would you rather? Weitering or Billings?

joop your thoughts? :p

How's this sound?

6 and our 2nd next year for

GC (3) and their 2nd next year.

They would be hopeful of finals next year after a shocker this year. Could see them rise from a low 30s to a low 20s. Gives us a shot at parish.

On another note: if they lose Dixon, do they still go for parish? They have an abundance of outside skill, maybe they need another tall?

Or am I drunk? :)

no

Go watch the second half of Saints v Bulldogs when we won and then consider trading Billings.

This from a kid who is still nowhere near his potential.

If they traded Billings they would all be certified.

You saying trading Billings would be a good idea in terms of their professional development? :p

Bont vs. Curnow.. Bring it on :p
