If they were a Melbourne team we would be rated completely different is where I'm trying to get at
I sensed that. My point is that when you finish second last you need to give people a reason to rate you higher than that for the next season. All we have done is recruit a few experienced players and give ourselves a chance at drafting some good young players. Most teams have done that. I don't think rating us in the bottom two before we play a game in anger is that unreasonable. It doesn't reflect Melbourne centricity so much as reality.

Off topic, but stumbled across a great journalistic quote just before.

"Jack Redden is a straight swap for Matt Rosa on a wing, but adds pace, as well as an outstanding ability to tackle, to the Eagles."

No one knows absolutely anything about our Lions.

No offence to Reddo but if he has pace, so does continental drift.

I am sure we will soon see: "James Aish adds a lot of toughness, a no-nonsense player who always puts the team cause first."

I look forward to the Lewis Jetta writeup. "Adds toughness and ability to win contested ball in the middle."

Will cannon into a pack, collect and dish off a perfect handball to the outside runner with 3 people hanging off him.

Delicious.

Could you imagine if Josh Green left like early rumours predicted? He gets very little recognition outside of the Lions community but I have no doubts the media would have talked up the "red-headed, electrifying goal-kicking midfielder."

The less respect we have though, the more we can assume the underdog status and prove these doubters wrong

The greatest joy comes when you rise against the odds.

I see you've read KissStephanie's analysis of James's game on the D&T board as well.

We will play finals next year. 8th.

Love it... If our much talked about midfield performs we will climb the ladder I have have no doubt. Just need one KP player at either end to stand up and that'll make an immense difference.

FWIW my predictions are:
I think that we could reach 12-14 if we kick more midfield goals and get better disposal out of our 50.
Forward line will take care of itself and start to really improve after the bye, &
Cutler & Gardiner will be our major improvers

To continue on, off topic

Every year I am hopeful we can make a big jump up the ladder like West Coast and Western Bulldogs before us but every year I am disappointed!

Realistically I think we will be better, but with another season under our KPPs belts then 2017 we may be a show for a sneaky finals contention!

I predict a ripper of a season and we finish 10th
I think we will finish 13th.

Similar to the 2012 season, we won many games against the bottom five easily however failed to match it against the top 8, which might comprise of some heavy defeats. Still, this means at least 8-10 wins, it's the poor % that really lets us down.

I still feel that with some more wiser heads in the team with Bastinac and Whitecross (if we pick him up), plus last year providing a wealth of experience (baptism by fire) for our younger players, that we can hopefully minimise those heavy losses against the better teams.

My prediction is a slow start and a roaring finish to go somewhere around 10 to 12. Our mid field even without the additions didn't get any consistency together last year and our forward line were devastated with injuries. Like other teams we get injuries but we seem to loose 2 or 3 in the same part of the ground at once and have no depth. Two KPF's gone for most of the season when we needed to get games into them, top mid fielders rarely on the field at the same time. It will take us some early games to get it right but once the confidence builds I believe we have the risk takers and speed to do well and if we get a couple of wins in a row the skills will improve with the confidence in each other. Our medical team does need to perform wonders compared to last year to keep more on the field but I recon this team with belief can make a big climb.

Whitecross has signed on at Hawthorn for another year.

Well then! Guess we can start talking about two extra draftees instead of one!

I'm actually fairly bullish about our team. Our midfield is a finals midfield. Rocky, Beams, Hanley, Bastinac, Robbo, Bell, Rich, Bundy, Zorko that is a fairly good engine room. As long as we can keep our KPP on the field i think we can capitalise on our strengths. Think the likes of Freeman/Walker, Martin and Merrett/Clarke are our most important players. We saw what a difference having just McGuane and Freeman back in the team made to our structure and ability to take a grab and kick a goal. If we can keep our guys on the park i think we can hit that 8-12 mark. Because of the youth of inexperience of our depth at either end of the field, if only a few things go wrong, it can easily put us back down the ladder.

that is a windup thought he would be a sure thing to come back to Queensland and play for the Lions, guess the lure of a possible first premiership was too great, cant blame him

To be fair, he's signed on for another year. It seems likely that he was keen enough and we were keen enough, him having come for a medical, and it may be that we just couldn't swing it this year. I'm sure we'll have another crack next year if he's been healthy.
