2. Steele Sidebottom, 24 (Coll)
The loyal Pies’ man is at long odds to leave, but a club like Brisbane will surely dangle a carrot. Could get superstar money elsewhere but wants to lead Collingwood back onto September stage.

LOL. Get off Bigfooty and do some actual journalism Jay Clark.
Yeah I got a feeling he won't leave the Pies but I'm sure we will be offering him a hell of a lot of cash to make Collingwood pay more than they want to. The Pies salary cap will be tight the next few years and they have no KPP at all outside Cloke and Brown... They have severely overcompensated their midfield more so than us IMO especially when you consider blokes like Treloar, Aish and Pendles haven't shown much in positions other than midfield.

Yeah agree we ended up getting a better deal this year. However, would have saved the club the year of speculation, aish would have left on far better terms (now rates a total douche) and us the whole 400 pages of aish/Simpsons thread.

Now hang on just a minute. Smash Aish all you want because he deserves that and more, but I will be damned if I am going to stand by and let you speak ill of the Aish/Simpson thread! That thread was legendary! Legendary I tells you!

Moore is a good one

Yeah I can imagine the Sidebottom free agency thread now.

We should go hard at Hooker or Brown, need a defender to replace merret in 2017. Unless we have faith in our kids to take the next step quickly.

Leuey played as a forward who rucked a bit in 2015. That's pretty much what Walker does. In terms of role, Walker is a better fit. We saw last season that Leuey just couldn't get it right as a forward.

So if Walker will likely play the forward/ruck relief role, then the gap we need to fill is for someone who, if Martin and West go down, can play as the first ruck. Unless Archie comes on suddenly, we don't have anyone who can do that.

You mention Paine. If he's still contracted, it is a moot point. If he's not, I don't think we need to replace him given we've now got a fair bit of quantity in the taller forward roles.

I'm just not seeing any need for Grimley except as an insurance ruck, a role for which he may not be suited.

All relevant, As I mentioned Grimley was a ruck in his junior years at the Northern Knights. We actually do need insurance in the ruck department as the Gabba pitch has certainly hurt our rucks with a full spectrum of leg injuries in the past. West is coming back from ruptured ACL injury and my concern with Walker is the same height as Staker who at 196cm has really only been a back up ruck, bit like Merrett, not really a true 2nd ruck. Looking back at 2001, we had Knobel, Charman, Keating and McDonald on our list.and that certainly paid dividends. Grimley has developed himself into an athletic KPP something we greatly lack. and would be better than trying to make a uncoordinated ruck like Leuey into a forward. not sure what the problem is if we can pick him up for nothing.
We'll agree to disagree but in my opinion we looked better last season in the forward line with Staker, Leuey and Freeman, even with Leuey floundering.

Yeah there's a rookie list spot available for Grimely; might be a good idea.

Worst case scenario he can chill in the NEAFL for a year or 2.

He's kicked 40 odd in vfl last 2 seasons -might kick a 100 in neafl.

But there is no Key defenders anywhere in the universe.

If rich does indeed leave at the end of next year i can see us making a play for sideboob.

dont think he would want to leave, think he was pretty unimpressed with how west coast and freo overlooked him in the draft

and given he isn't a moron like Aish and Yeo, who want to go play for teams that had the chance to select them but didn't

I think Rich has been forced out of the midfield and will need to improve (quite a bit) to get back in. Rich leaving would hurt a bit because we don't have many good users of the footy but wouldn't be the end of the world and wouldn't mean that we'd be chasing an experience midfielder to replace him IMO.

I would highly doubt Rich would be pissed at West Coast or Freo for overlooking him in the draft. Don't think players are as petty and vindictive as some supporters think they are.

that was the rumour that did the rounds...could be just a made-up rumour though

Richy is a club guy, loves the lions, prob not sure where Leppa is going to play him just yet (hopefully half forward) is well liked amongst the group, I'd be surprised if he left. I think he is a one club player!

I appreciate your enthusiasm, but reflect on the number of players in the last couple of years who have left who we would of thought that about. Im not talking about any of the younger players that have left.

I (and others) would be shattered if Rich left.....imo he is one we HAVE to keep at all costs.

What does "all costs" mean though?

He is a 500k a year player on performance/potential balance. If someone offers 650+ a year we'd have to consider letting him go.
