Any love for Ayce Cordy as a rookie? 204cm aged 25. Has had injury issues but can take a nice grab and athletic for his size.

I thought we were trading Martin for Cordy?

Cordy is glacially slow...cannot run. The Doggies , being desperate for bigmen , gave him so many chances. I saw him several times at the Western Oval during the last 2 seasons and he is basically a good average reserves player. Warnock,is at least a skilful tap ruck, otherwise pretty limited, but probably as good an insurance policy as we could get at this stage. Daw ,unfortunately, faces court next month.

I would actually prefer we picked up 1-2 more experienced players - perhaps one on the main list and one on the rookie list to help provide us with depth given how young we are.

Whitecross would have been useful. I wonder who the other possibilities are now? Does anyone have a list of experienced players who are out of contract but want to play on?

Someone like Warnock maybe necessary for the Rookie list just in case something happens to both Martin and West. Gee, if no-one actually picks up Adcock, I think we should absolutely reconsider picking him back up for one more year - even if a fair bit of it is spent providing leadership in the NEAFL.

Rookie list Jed?

Rookie list Jed?

I was actually thinking of putting a ruck type like Warnock (or whoever else has at least 50 games experience and is a ruckman) on the rookie list, and then use one of our main list spots on a delisted free agent - like Jed (can we even do that?) or obviously someone else experienced who is available. I would rather do that than use a late pick on another kid (even one of the other academy kids), who we might be able to get via the rookie draft anyway.

If anyone has a list of possible experienced ruckman, and delisted free agents still available that would be interesting to see. I am not saying it should definitely be Warnock and Adcock (if that bridge hasn't been well and truly burned) but gee, if we get significant injuries next year it won't be pretty.

If we were to rookie list a ruckman I wouldn't mind rookieing one who's best footy is still ahead of him. Possibly a state league ruckman in their early 20s. Otherwise we could have Martin, West and Warnock all finishing up at the same time and Archie turns out to be a dud and we have nobody.

I'm not sure Daw would be allowed to leave Victoria given he is under investigation/has been charged by the Vic police (he may even be standing trial soon?).

Would be confident in saying he isn't on our radar.

Daw is set to face trial in November after being charged with three counts of rape. North hope to re-draft him as a rookie in November's draft, if he's still around.

Another case of player thinking he is better than he actually is.
Not necessarily. Once the club declared that they wouldn't be offering Jed another contract no other club was going to pick him up through any means other then as a delisted free agent and the delisted free agency period doesn't open until this Saturday. Even if he doesn't get picked up Jed has a young family to take care of now so it is unlikely he would have been in a position to take a significant pay cut at the club without at least trying to negotiate for a better deal but the club then continued to take it off the table.

Jed taking a significant paycut would still give him way more than the majority of people with families are earning.

Greed can come back and bite you on the posterior at times.

Majak definitely has more 'upside' in terms of his athletic attributes but has to this point shown less than Warnock at AFL level. I do admit he has had some pretty stiff competition from Goldstein and Petrie. However, other than the Bulldogs game, and a few nice performances in the VFL, he has had a fair amount of time (6 years in the AFL system?) to translate upside into performance. I guess he might be one of those guys that you need to give 10-15 straight games to in the ones and endure the mistakes to see if he can get used to the higher level.

You know what you are going to get with Warnock though- someone that will touch the ball about 8-10 times and get 30+ hitouts. Warnock's 2011 and 2014 seasons are statistically pretty solid. He would be ideal security if something were to happen to Martin or West.
Having said that I wouldn't be adverse to getting Daw, just that as security I would prefer Warnock if both were available.
Aside from the legal issues, I wouldn't go near Majak Daw. Aside from a few highlights, when he has played at AFL level he looks lost. The intuitive football nous that players learn growing up playing the game is missing.

I like the idea of Gorringe, but he worries me. He's been talking about getting back to Adelaide for a while now, and, just hearing him interviewed a few times, I just get the impression he feels.. like he's owed something. Almost like no-one understands how good he is but him.

Not convinced he'd thrive in a rookie list situation.

Would love to be wrong though. Bloody good athlete.

I suspect for many of the out of contract Lions, money won't be what they are particularly concerned about. Someone like Rich would be well within his rights to think about moving to a more successful club if it looks like Leppa is on the way out and yet another new coach coming in.....

So if Leppa is on the way out, who would you like to see as our next coach? Could make a good thread that.

leppa will turn it around this year. 9/10 wins not out of the question. 2 of the most successful coaches of the last 10 years, mark thompson and alistair clarkson had people calling for their heads early in their careers. i think the AFL community in general is far too quick to jump on coaches and campaign for sackings. i remember lethal saying years ago players make coaches not the other way around, coaching groups can improve a player but only a certain percentage. a flag is always won by a team with one of the best 2 or 3 playing lists in the competition. can anybody say that if alistair clarkson was coaching us the last 2 years with the same playing and injury list he would have done much better?
