Re Dangers pay packet, I'd be staggered if he got over $850-$900 anywhere.

Dangerfield (Is there a better name in AFL footy?), doesn't strike me as the kind of player (Or person) who'd be accommodating of a club's payment culture/structures....He is a franchise player on the Buddy/Ablett/Fyfe scale & with an ego to match...$$$ Are the status symbol for these kinds of players; & they play football in the self-same manner....It's all about them.

Lets assume our highest paid lads/leaders are on 750k for arguments sake....That level would comprise all of Mitch, Podge, Rough & Lewy....All these guys are vets, which means a 110k component of each of their wages lies outside the salary cap....For Danger to fit into our tiered structures would necessitate a likely maximum of 650- 700K, on the second tier with the likes of Burger, Gibbo & Cyril....Can't for the life of me see that happening.

Finally....The fact that a young bloke like Tom Boyd can command a figure of $1 mill per season, lends as nonsense the notion, that one of the top 3 mids in the country would be worth - nor settle for - anything less.

Potential players to target via trade? Or free agency? Lachie Henderson, Chris yarran, Mathew leunberger, Daniel rich, Tom bellchambers, david zaharkis

Daniel rich and David zaharkis: both players have dropped off this year, both have an eye for goal. Zaharkis offers a bit more run but rich is a strong in and under mid with silky skills could be an ideal heir to Mitchell.

Thoughts?

I am sorry mate but I don't rate Rich. He came with a huge reputation but he hardly does anything on field. I have been watching him carefully this year because he was in my dream team and realised I overrated him based on what others were saying. To compare him to Mitchell; they are not even on the same footy park.

Since Tom Boyd is on a million a year and a host of other young bulldogs will demand big rises after their stellar year perhaps we could target someone like Nathan Hrovat. He is a clever midfielder with lots of upside who broke his jaw earlier this season.

$900k per year would be pretty fair money given what he is capable of and has proven in a weaker side than ours.

If he wants success though then his best bet is to join us next year. For that to happen he'll likely need to accept 15-20% less than that.

Though if the club thinks he's what we need going forward then he could get a backended deal that does hit that million dollar mark in future years. Remember that the cap will go up with the new media rights deal and $1 million for a player now won't be the equivalent share of the cap 3+ years down the track.

Can't see any plausible way in which we'll be receiving an end of first rounder for Suckling....Unless Gilligan & Fitzy are feeling the pangs of justice & benevolence by planning on squaring up for the post-Vlad ledger.....Wouldn't hold your breath on it.

The science of compensation picks is akin to phrenology: dubious, random and completely at the practioner's discretion.

I thought phrenology must have something to do with the anus given that's where they seem to pull the logic for these compo picks from.

They may not pull em out of their fundaments, but when it comes to awarding em to the Hawks, there's narly a moments hesitation: Straight up the Khyber Pass.

Does anybody think that any of the below can be prized away from the Giants this year if/when they also lose Treloer to Collingwood?

KPP's?:
James Stewart
Adam Tomlinson
Caleb Marchbank

Mid:
Jack Steele
Josh Kelly

They can't all be starting 22 as the Giants are well stocked for KPP's with the above plus Davis, Patton, Cameron, Haynes, Patfull, McCarthy, Plowman, Corr and midfielders Coniglio, Greene, Shiel, Whitfield, Palmer, Ward, Scully, Smith, Ahern, Treloer*, Pickett, Sumner, Hoskin-Elliott, Griffen.

It's going to be hard for the Giants to keep them all on their list forever and they are looking at bringing in Jacob Hopper and Matthew Kennedy by way of their academy this year.

Can we shake one of those boys loose?
Stewart would be very handy. He's the kind of Ruck/forward we need to replace Haley.

Have no idea where his contract sits however.

Boy Afghanistan has become so well known that their outback tracks are mentioned on footy forums. :) By the way that is one dangerous track.

It's a reasonably well known & historically notorious geographical zone....Those of us forced to endure our parents obscure fondness for the Carry-ON movies throughout the 70's, are all too painfully familiar with it....A good starting place in which to deposit all our new-found social-justice-warriors....Have at em lads.

Leads well and decent enough hands but a poor tank and his kicking is cringeworthy. Could be potential steak-knives this year, but don't think he is best 22 if Patton McCarthy and Cameron are all fit.

You can have Griffen & Stewart...

The General still has parents in Hawthorn and barracked for us.. And all his mates egged him on to get picked by Hawthorn! But, the price may not be right.
