And I've similarly thought that danger is the ideal replacement for Burgoyne. What do they say about great minds think alike, well that ain't us. Would be very happy if burgers was replaced by either tho.
See, I like Dangerfield's explosiveness, but he's not particularly great by foot, and doesn't seem to have the 'time' that Treloar does.

Yo dude did you used to support the swans then changed to the Giants? Like how did you end up supporting the Giants?
I can't respect someone who changes team you just can't do that hahahah,
I've always wondered were the Giants and suns supporters neutrals before supporting there teams

That's my story mate.

Vast majority of us were neutrals. There's a thread on our board somewhere if you want to dig it up.

One bloke on our board from Adelaide didn't like the Crows or Port. He's a Central Districts man in the SANFL. Moved to Sydney at the time we started up so he became a Giants fan.

There's a few good stories.

Dangerfield is a proven jet who you could build a midfield around right now. He has explosiveness that can't be taught.

Treloar will probably be an elite player in a couple of years in the right environment. He doesn't have the same explosiveness as Danger but is probably a more reliable user of the ball

I'd rather Dangerfield as he would compliment guys like Shiels, Lewis and Howe and add to the explosiveness and ability to go forward that Jed and Langford have.
It's only Robbo but he came up with a good quote about Dangerfield last year.

"He's like a Lion on the inside, and a Cheetah on the outside"

Pretty much sums him up. Scraps hard for the contested ball, generally wins it, but when he's off the lack his explosive pace helps him kick away from the others at the contest.

Right now Dangerfield > Treloar.

2 years time? Who knows.

I like reading your insight mate , quality posting which is rare when opposition Supporters go on to other boards! Credit to you!!!

Cool
Pay him for sitting on his arse serving a drugs suspension
Sounds like a plan :thumbsu:
Luckily, our great club is just that.
They would make sure that his contract was based around him being available to play.
Not saying Hawks are after him
Just saying we'd dot our I's & cross out T's

Norf on the other hand... well

Given how many we roll through the midfield I am beginning to think we have our eyes on someone else who won't command the dollars than Danger or Treloar are. I think we might be looking at another Jed Anderson or Jono O'Rourke deal, raw talent, versatile and doesn't compromise our pay structure.

I dont know whether its the morning im having, but i just find these replies unnecessarily rude.

Anyway, i think dangerfield is a small chance, but a chance nonetheless. Being a free agent nabbing him and trading for a younger gem would still be possible. Not sure aish is that but id like them to keep hunting through GWS' endless depth.

Even someone like an Ahern or Pickett who seen to have huge talent but no exposure yet.

Seems that trading for a high draft pick a few years later is now a valid way to get high draft picks in without high draft picks

Rude to Carlisle or the poster?

It's a pretty valid point though don't you think?

Trade period is in October, and WADA hand down a verdict sometime in Nov at the earliest

Why would any club trade for a Bombers player, with a verdict yet to be handed down?
And Carlisle would be costly both in money and in what a club would have to give the bombers in a trade

Agreed it is as mad as going after Keefe and Thomas, you would only chase Zaharakis or draftees post 2012.

Whitecross, as far as I'm aware, remains un-signed & is also an UNRESTRICTED Free Agent.

Is there any talk or consideration on what becomes of WX? I feel that 2015 is more a matter of getting him out & about & testing his knee more than building performance to regain his spot in the 1sts.

I think WX is a very conscientious player, trainer & clubman & will really benefit from another pre-season campaign where he has the opportunity to run & build with the rest of the 1sts Team - I'd hazard a guess that he'd emerge (again) as a leader within the group, if footy & game-day actions isn't the measure of performance. I really think this would help WX, get back to basics & give him a fresh run at it, so that he can again perform on game day.

So... Do we sign him up for 1-yr or is he gone? Would any other club offer him 2-yrs etc?

Signing up WX, Lake and others on short term, lower monetary contracts is what will give the club flexibilty moving forward.

I would have thought 2 things

1) if you post on BF you need to be thick skinned. You've been on here long enough to know that

2) any mention of a player involved in the injections program is more than likely going to get a negative response

In fairness to Lips Tyler, I think he was just having a bit of fun

I think we do this extremely well & it gives great flexibility, as well as providing our fringe-22 guys plenty of confidence that we'll not dump them on a whim.

I'd much rather we sign WX for 1 more year, a known quantity & a good clubman, than use our 4th Round Pick in the Draft & be stuck with a player who likely won't ever play, but who takes a spot for 2 years.

Agree. The first year back from a serious injury is always going to be about finding his feet again and stringing games together. He still is a very good player and another year I think would be fair to let him prove once again that he is capable of playing regular AFL standard football

Whitecross will get another year I believe, he still has youth and versatility on his side which Clarko loves. He will be better for the run in 2015 and with a trouble free pre-season he will get that confidence and zip back.

Why would Dangerfield want to move to Geelong knowing he'd never play in a winning side agaisnt the Hawks?

Coming to Hawthorn is in his best interest. Don't fight it, Patrick.

Hmmmm, yeah. If he's serious, we're his only option.

I dunno about getting a player who wants to come because it's close to home. Wrong reason to recruit a guy.

He comes for success, anything else and it's the wrong reason.

I don't know if there are many teams circling given his injuries. I suppose we could go for the "delist and redraft" option if we weren't interested in anyone in the draft.

Instead of Treloar and Danger, the club could make a pitch for Whitfield while his stocks are down a little. May not quite as good, but he just has that air of a leader of men about him.
I like this idea. Think Whitfield will be a very good player. Would also like to see us in the ear of O'Meara. This trade period will be very interesting to say the least
