I'd imagine that we're waiting to see if we can nab a free agent before we decide what to offer Brian.
There aren't any left that really fill any needs for us, other than the one at the very top of the list of course.

Not sure I'd take it to the bank just yet, but a pretty solid source of mine suggests promising dialogue going on between Carlisle and the Pies. Not sure how they'll make their cap work though.....

Geez the Pies are going to look good once they land all of Dangerfield, Treloer, Aish and Carlisle!
Should have plenty of spare cash the following season too :)

Only 2 players I would look at on this list. DANGERFIELD and Kreuzer.

Interesting that Billy, Jed, Suckers, Hale, Lake, Whitey, are all unsigned as of Rd 21.

You just have that feeling that Wrighty and Co are up to something.
I couldn't imagine we'd be looking to trade Billy or Jed. Both have potential so high it would give you a nose bleed.

Suckers is obviously weighing up free agency and looks gone.

Hale and Lake are both quite old and we'd be cautious about signing them up until the season is done because certain injuries before the end of the season could mean the end of their careers and we don't want to lose a spot on the list and a chunk of cap space to a player who won't play another game.

Whitecross is another free agent and one with consecutive ACLs may be better off looking for a fresh start elsewhere given the club will look to play the younger mids ahead of him.

I agree with Billy and Jed, but why are they not signed up at Rd 21?

I go mad over Angus Brayshaw (No. 10) from Melbourne. One of the most promising players in the league for mine & I'd happily give 2015 & 2016 First Rounders + Suckling for him. (70,000 HFC Fans probably happy that I'm not our List Manager...)

Who do you think is/will be better of these 2?

I think this kid is going to be a champion; he is already showing the signs. Would love to see him in brown and gold. However, would cost a fortune.

I agree with Billy and Jed, but why are they not signed up at Rd 21?

It will be about dollars and cents and potential trade targets.
If we land player ABC or player DEF we have X amount to spend on Billy / Jed however we won't know exactly how much we can offer them until trade period is done and dusted. Many variables at play however none of those variables would involve them being traded.

Doesn't have to be for this years FAs. I'd imagine all clubs are in contact with next years FAs as well (at least their managers) to gauge interest - if we're into someone big and get a sign he wants to come we may (for example), re negotiate a heap of contracts to load them into different salary caps and free up some space. Then assess how much is left over in 2016 for Brian.

Not that we've been doing anything like that over the next few weeks.

As an aside, it's why I don't really blame Buddy for talking to the Swans when he did - anyone who thinks we wouldn't do the same thing is dreaming. It wouldn't surprise me if Frawley contacted us rather than the other way round, for example.

I agree with Billy and Jed, but why are they not signed up at Rd 21?

I'd imagine a combination of things on both sides

- they can't go anywhere without a trade, so are a lower priority than others
- they are still fringe players and as such aren't as high priority
- their management would be hoping they run out the season well and increase their market value

Similar reason as to why Langford wasn't as high a priority last year.

Carlisle thinks he's going to Carlton

Rude to Carlisle or the poster?

It's a pretty valid point though don't you think?

Trade period is in October, and WADA hand down a verdict sometime in Nov at the earliest

Why would any club trade for a Bombers player, with a verdict yet to be handed down?
And Carlisle would be costly both in money and in what a club would have to give the bombers in a trade
To the poster.

I 100% agree with you on Carlisle, its a difficult situation to factor into any trade.

Its not a big deal, its just the way you responded to his post - just unnecessary IMO.

I have a feeling Whitecross will leave this year. The ultimate clubman but I think the offers will be too good considering he has done his knee twice. If Bolton gets the Carlton job, Im tipping Whitecross is the first player he brings over to inject more leadership into the group.
Gold Coast also devoid of leadership could look to lure him home.
The other former Hawk coaches may look to bring him to add to their squads.

I hope we keep him cause as history has shown the year after their first year back is where they start hitting their stride. See Roughead, Achilles and Schoenmakers, Knee.

I don't like, but I agree.
He is a Free Agent, so knowing the AFL's compo system we will get shafted again.
Despite that, I would not begrudge WX taking the offers and I will wish him all the very best.

A mate of mine saw Henderson signing a Geelong jumper in Brisbane. The guy doesn't BS either, but maybe he was hallucinating from rage after going to Brisbane to see what they served up.

Henderson to Geelong has been done for a month. No ifs or buts...

What are they going to trade for all these players? Henderson is not a free agent and will atleast cost a late first rounder. Dangerfield and Selwood are restricted free agents and Geelong don't seem to be in the position to completely outbid their respective teams.

Is Motlop and two years of mid first rounders going to get all that?

Whitey to be for Bolton what Ellis was to Simpson??

as much as it's hate to see Whitey leave, I'd never begrudge him wanting to get as much footy under his belt as possible. considering the lack of luck he's had, he deserves a proper crack at it, not sure he'll get it in the brown and gold though.

I assume him and Suckers will be leaving under FA.

This might be why we haven't signed Jed and Billy. just seeing what money frees up from the departures. I highly doubt we'll let either leave very easily

Hawthorn could lose free agent Matt Suckling for nothing

Hawthorn could lose premiership defender Matthew Suckling for nothing should he take up a lucrative offer to join Brisbane at the end of the season.

The Lions would prefer for Suckling to join the club through the pre-season draft, rather than as a free agent, to protect their position in the national draft.

The club does not want to enter the free agency market, given that to bring Suckling or another player in would mean missing out on compensation should ruckman Matthew Leuenberger depart.

Under free agency rules, clubs are compensated for departing free agents only if they finish with a net loss of players.

While Suckling remains a priority target for Brisbane, it is understood the Lions have withdrawn from discussions about at least two other free agents.

Suckling, who is considering his options, is one of only a few Hawthorn players yet to be re-contracted for 2016.

The 26-year-old has been offered a four-year deal, believed to averaging about $400,000 per season, to move to Brisbane.

As an unrestricted free agent Suckling would be able to move to the Lions without the interference of Hawthorn, who would be unable to match the offer.

However, joining the Lions via the draft would mean the Hawks would receive no compensation for his departure, possibly missing out on an end-of-first-round selection.

The two clubs could also negotiate a trade, though the Lions would not want to give up a valuable pick with the pre-season draft option available to them.

Leuenberger - a 27-year-old restricted free agent - is also contemplating his options after nine years in Brisbane.

Should he leave, the Lions' compensation would be determined by the AFL's "formula" and based on his age and the terms of his new deal.

Brisbane may increase its efforts to keep him at the club should the Stefan Martin request a move at the end of the season, but the Lions are confident the contracted Martin will stay.

Melbourne last year received a first-round selection - pick three overall - after James Frawley joined the Hawks under free agency rules.

Brisbane has said it will apply to the AFL for a priority pick in this year's draft, given its woeful run in recent seasons and significant number of player departures.

James Aish, a first-round pick in 2013, is likely to join the long list of Lion youngsters to request a trade after just two or three years at the club.

An end-of-first round priority pick would make it easier for the Lions to obtain Academy players Ben Keays and Eric Hipwood in this year's draft, under the new bidding system.

A compensation pick for Leuenberger would do the same, or give the club a shot at two top-three draftees if his new contract at another club is deemed big enough.

Both Lions Academy players - Hipwood an aggressive key position prospect and Keays a busy midfielder - are a strong chance to attract bids in the first round.

Hawthorn had four players on the free agency list at the start of the year but Sam Mitchell and Luke Hodge agreed to contract extensions early in the season.

That left Suckling and Brendan Whitecross, who has played four senior games this year after returning from two knee reconstructions.
